MINI-ANALYSIS: I'm actually with Ishwari on this one. 🤔

Sona comes from an environment where she is used to being praised for whatever she does, and hearing that she is a special snowflake. Ishwari understands this, but makes it clear that this is not that environment. Bua-dadi is not going to give Sona a pat on the back for trying and send her on her way, she is going to blow this up into a crisis and use it to demean their household and the way it works. It may not seem like a big deal to those of us who are more familiar with Sona's lifestyle, but to Ishwari, this is her life's work on the line. This household is the company she founded from scratch and raised to success. And in this system, the success of the company is based on the correct observations of rituals, and domestic duties. Dev is the face of this company and any insult to him is an insult to the entire institution.

Sona is a brand new employee, who has yet to learn her way around. In no company would you allow your newest employee to prepare a presentation for your most important and most sensitive client, with whom you have spent years, painstakingly building a relationship. Flip the situation to an office setting, and imagine that Buadadi is a foreign delegate who is very particular about her language and culture. As the manager, would you send someone who has to use google translate to conduct the meeting, even if the client asked for them? Would take such a huge risk with the goodwill you've built up just to ease the conscience of your employee, and indulge their enthusiasm? It makes much more sense to handle this yourself, somehow or the other, and then use opportunities where less is at stake to give the new trainee work experience.

Buadadi is here just for a few days, and it means a lot to Ishwari not to incite her disapproval. What is interesting is that she sees BD as an outsider and Sona now as part of the household, for better or worse. It shows that whatever issues she may have with Sona within their household, she will stand and defend her, as part of the household, from any outsider.

BIG COMPLAINT: WHY IS SONA STILL USING 'AAP' for DEV?!

I have been whining about this since the confession, and held back any concerns because they were both transitioning. But now they seem to have settled, with Dev making the transition to 'tum' and Sona conveniently neglecting to do the same. She used 'tum' for Ritwick, so what's the deal? It doesn't suit the nature of Dev and Sona's relationship and it bothers me every time. 😡

I made a post on this a few days ago - 'Tum/aap'. This is bothering me hugely too. Where is the need to call him aap? Does he deserve extra respect just because he is her husband? I totally agree it doesn't suit the nature of their relationship and it sounds completely out of place in a modern urban setting where they have fallen in love and known each other for long enough to be casual in their speech with each other. You don't hear Dev saying aap for Sona anymore these days. The initial promos showed them saying tum to each other and I loved that. It was refreshing and different from typical Indian soaps. Most importantly, it felt correct and natural for the setting and context of the relationship. This itself is a warning sign that the show is spiralling into saas bahu territory.

Which 26 year old modern, educated, independent young girl from a liberal family in Delhi will insist on saying aap to her 28year old husband. And wear only tacky sarees and heavy makeup after marriage? Andthis show is supposed to reflect reality??

Okay! I've got nothing to add to the Ishwari-Dadi part but this 'aap' is so putting me off. He's even asked her to call him tum. Fine, she was an employee to him and calling him aap is really fine. But now that you are married, calling him tum is totally fine. They both talk to each other as eqauls. They ARE equals. When he addresses her as tum, what is stopping her from calling him tum as well. This bothered me initially, but I got used to it. Now, after the marriage, somehow she calling him aap and he tum makes me feel as if I am not watching Dev and Sona, the people who treat each other as equals but some couple from a conservative house whose marriage was arranged by their parents. It seems like they belong from families where the parents tell their girl that pati parameshwar hain and he needs to be called aap. So filmy. Very uncharacteristic of Dev and Sona.

Didn't she call him tum in the initial promos?

Okay, did I make ANY sense. I was really irritated with this aap yesterday. Made me cringe!

P?S. Does she have to wear sarees too? We see Ishwari also dresses very simply. So can't Sona wear the kurtis or whatever she used too earlier? This heavy make-up is so typical opera kinda stuff.

Completely agree. Is there a marriage handbook that says the wife has to totally stop wearing the clothes she wore before marriage? I don't think this happens in reality at all. Not in an urban context where husband and wife both work. Wouldn't she just continue wearing what she has always worn to work and keep the sarees for functions and special occasions? And while on the subject of clothes is there a rule that the female lead in Indian soaps can't wear western clothes? Elena is only seen in western clothes and Nikki is always in super short dresses. This is ok in the sanskaari Dixit family? But heaven forbid that the bahu of the house is ever seen in -gasp - jeans or pants or skirts and dresses! There were a couple of initial episodes when we saw Sona in Kurtis and jeans and even a jacket/skirt outfit. Why couldn't she continue that look? Because according to Indian TV bahus don't dress like that.

Your posts are literally like water in the desert xD Noone took this point in terms of Ishwari which was exactly what was shown. I really liked Ishwari yesterday. And its makes me feel bad for myself cause it will so suck if she goes into her extra possessive mother mode again. I loved how she helped Sona yesterday. Its not only Dev's "izzat" but people will keep pointing at her over her so called shortcomings. And hence she took the matter in her hands and found a way out as possible. I really liked when she said let bua go and then you can make whatever you want FOR DEV. That's like a lot coming from Ishwari. This woman is so layered and so complex. The CVs really do a great job with her. And also Surpriya as well. About the complaint about Sona calling Dev "Aap". I frankly like it a lot :P Just cause its so old school. Has a different feel to it. So I don't mind.

Taking from your excellent analysis of business setting, here's my two cents worth.

In a business setting, when a new employee comes in and they are assigned an impossible task without training with full knowledge that the said employee doesn't have previous experience in dealing with this particular task, do you think it is ethical or appropriate for the manager to do his job and pass it on to his client as the new employee's work?

Specially when the said client is extremely familiar with the manager's style of work?

I have been in a corporate setting for quite sometime. As far as my experience goes, in ethical business practice, the manager should approach the client and inform them honestly that the new employee doesn't have the required experience to handle the task nor did she got trained for this. May be when next time when she visits, the new employee will be able to handle the task.

However, for the client's honour, the employee will do a short presentation with the manager's help.

That is any business who wants to deal with honesty and good intention while maintaining good will all around would deal with the situation.

I don't know when the new employee gets caught by the client because obviously the manager has her distinct style of work, what kind of reputation the new employee will be left with and what reputation the business will have with the said client who not only supports but also aids in cheating and fraud?

i totally understand what you mean about Ishwari ! For her it's like damage minimization and control when it comes to Dadi Bus, because it is the Saas of the Saas! She can deal with her own MIL but Sona is like a innocent lamb in this scene.
She cant risk her long term good name with DB over Sona. Why should she? you can't change old people.

Bang on! We saw Sona wear jeans, short kurtis pajamas and patialas. Elena, whose around the same age as Sona and belonging to the same family wears all western dresses but the lead is not allowed to do so. Becuase, the conventional TV FL is supposed to be sanskari. Where is modern in all of this? Though it might seem like a small issue, this is very the change must begin. She's a 26 year old young woman for god's sake. And modern. So where does the saree and heavy make up fit in? I always wished to see Sona in jeans and short tops. It would look really good on Erica Fernandes, I felt. And I get to see her in sarees. *sigh* Somethings just won't change. Wearing saree is of course not an indication towars being conservative, but which young woman does actually feel comfortable in sarees? And upon that, this aap. Gives a total typical soap opera feel. *shudders*

Nice post. 😊
Ishwari has cleared her stance from day one that its all about her son, his pride and his love. Yesterday she was genuinely trying to help Sona. As you mentioned that Daadibua is not a kind of person who would appreciated sona for giving her best in kitchen. She would have again taunted her. And Ishwari is not a person who would have dared to answer daadibua back by saying, my bahu cannot cook, so don't ask her anything. She herself is terrified by her saasu ma, how ask anything for sona? She was right in saying do good in what you are and let me do what i am good at.
And about your complain, well Dev has referred Sona as "tum" quite a few times before wedding and even before they were in relationship. And Sona has only called him "tum" only once during Dev ki deewangi ME. So Dev was always casual with aap and tum thing. It will take sona some time. 😛

Well, all I can say is that I don't have any complaint with Sona addressing Dev as "aap" as long as Dev does so too. The bigger problem for me is Eeshwari treating her family as a company, herself as a head, Dev as face, while Sona is just an employee hired to serve the company, without any benefits in case of termination!
The problem is not about how you address people but about how you treat them. If Dev is the face then Sona cannot be the servant as she is his equal. If Eeshwari is the head then Sona is the same too as she should have an equal place in the family as everyone. It's a family and not a company.
