Part 12
"I don't even know what happened in these couple of hours! Everything was fine until yesterday, Karan.", Radha Rani said exasperated.
"Did you do anything that might have angered Bhai?", asked Karan, nothing making sense to him either.
"Nothing at all! Except, he saw me scolding Sonakshi and got pretty hyper! But I'm assuming that's just Dev. It's not that he knows who that girl is anyway. He would have done the same if it were someone else."
Scratching his head as he tried to make the head and tale out of what his mother just revealed him, he frowned.
"Do you think Sonakshi has told him something? Do you think she revealed her true identity by any chance?"
"I don't think she would have the guts to do that. Ater what I did to her, and how I warned her, I bet she didn't reveal anything. I just don't understand what this Dev is up to!", he said holding her head in frustration.
"Don't worry mom. Whatever it is, I will handle. That girl is like those toys. You just have to make sure to turn the keys in the right direction and it will be back on track. Leave it to me. I make sure, she doesn't have the guts to even raise her gaze to Dev, and it would just be a warning. She will regret if she still goes any further. You keep calm, mom. Everything will be in control"

"God! What is this thing even?!", sighed Sonakshi in frustration, slamming her head on her book for the nth time now.
"Economics!"
Turning around to give a very-funny' look as Dev entered the room with a tray of food, sonakshi turned around in her chair to slam the book shut. Putting the tray on the bed, he turned around only to find her stomp her feet towards him to walk into his arms, enclosing her arms around his waist.
"I'm gonna fail, Dev! I still don't understand the bonds question and I still have to clear my doubts on gradients. I don't understand why we need to take Economics as a liberal course when my major is food and nutrition. gowd! I feel like everything is going over my head!!", came a small voice as he caged her in his cocoon, his chin on top of her head.
Before he could say anything, a loud growl broke the momentary silence making widening sonakshi's eyes.
"No wonder!", was the reply as Dev indicated to her rather loud stomach.
"Dev, I'm serious! How am I gonna finish it in one night?"
"Well, I don't think it would be of any help if you make up your mind to skip your dinner", he said as his lips formed a thin line.
Dragging her to bed, making her sit on the bed, he pulled a the chair to sit in front of her put the tray on his lap. He knew she was stressed about tomorrow, he knew Sonakshi is not a person who would leave anything for last-minute, he knew why she couldn't study as much as she would if no other household responsibility were being put on her shoulder, and he also knew she would never complain about it. He lost his heart to an idiotic selfless woman and he can't complain! More so, he didn't want to complain...yet! Although he did have in mind to have a serious discussion about this topic sometime in future.

He shook his head at the level of insanity of their future discussion(s) Dev Dixit will be pulling off. Putting his ridiculous thoughts aside, he took a small morsel of roti and he dipped in the daal as he held it to her mouth.
Sonakshi frowned turning her head to the left. Dev knew she can't eat when she is stressed. This is been the case since their childhood. She would skip dinner during her exams and he would bring it to her room, forcing a few morsels into her mouth. His heart constricted painfully as his guilty conscience hit him yet once again, making him wonder how she had managed everything in these years, how she put a balance in her life, with so many responsibility, so much household chores, and such injustice, all at the same time. How did she take care of herself in all these f*cking mess? Of course, she didn't! he mentally slapped himself for even hoping that she would do the impossible.
"Dev, please, you know it won't go -"
"Down your throat, Yup! That sounds very familiar"
"I'm not -"
" - Joking. I know, that sounds familiar too"
Throwing daggers at him with her looks, Sonakishi chucked a pillow at him in frustration. Chuckling, he shook his head and put the morsel in the side of the plate , using the other hand to take off her huge spectacles.
"Sonakshi, do me a favor. Forget about Economics for the next 20 minutes. we are gonna have this dinner and I promise, I will make sure you understand every single detail about gradient and bonds. You said your exam is at 3 pm tomorrow?"
Sonakishi nodded, her knitted eyebrows smoothening suddenly.
"Perfect! It's 9:30 pm now, we have enough time if we start at 10 pm"
Convinced enough, she shook her head and opened her mouth to take the roti in her mouth.
He looked intently at every movement as she chewed the grain till it went down her throat. And as soon as it did, he breathed a sigh of relief. To him, it felt like he is given the privilege for the first time, to take care of the most precious possession of his life, and it filled his eyes as the overwhelming aura surrounded him so tightly that he felt his heart would explode. And at that very second, he vowed he would never, and he means never trust anyone when it would come to his Sonakshi. Now that he has got her back, he would do anything and everything to take care, on his own and own only, to the point that he might spoil her, but heck, he doesn't give a damn. She deserves every drop of care and love from him and beyond!
To Sonakshi, It felt like this is the first bite she is taking after a year of starvation. Of course, it was true! Because in the past 10 years, whatever the little food that she was provided with, she only gulped it down her throat to survive. it felt like someone has thrown their leftover in the trash and she picked it from there. It felt nothing less those street dogs searching for food in the dump for survival. Those little dry food that she used to get after everyone had finished eating their dinner, after a long day of completing all the work in the house from cleaning, sweeping and dusting the house, to washing and ironing clothes to making food for everyone, to finishing everyday's assignments for university, used to feel like it is mocking at her - mocking at her loneliness, her life and her destiny. There was no love, no affection, no support, no company nothing...nada! She finished the food as a lone tear left the corner of her eye.
"You're crying.", said Dev as he looked at her with his heated chocolate brown eyes.
"sorry...it's just...", sniffing she let another stream of tears flow down her cheeks.
He needed no explanation to know the reason behind those tears. Rather, he could relate to her more than any other time. The moment was equally overwhelming for both of them. He put the tray aside.
Pulling her on his lap, as he sat on the chair, he pressed his lips long and firm on her forehead, silently promising her to never leave her alone, in any stage of her life, regardless of how small the matter/situation is. And this, the dinner, is just the beginning. He promised every meal with her through the kiss, never to leave her to eat alone, on her own.
Closing her eyes, she clutched the lapel of his shirt as she felt his lips against her forehead. The promise was loud and clear to her, no words needed, no vows required. It was a silent promise and yet it was probably the only promise she could vouch on her life that it would never be broken. She still couldn't for the love of her life understand what happened in the last couple of house that her life turned completely around into the brighter sides as colorful colors started painting her black & white. How was she bestowed this blessing upon in a matter of just some mere hours?
Pulling back, wiping her tears with his thumbs, Dev smiled, "Let's get back to work?"
Sonakshi nodded and got up and went to her study table.
The next couple of hours was spent with nothing but Sonakshi telling Dev her confusions one by ones as he made a list, followed by Dev teaching her the basic concept of bonds and gradient and assigning her some problems from her textbook that he felt would be important, showing her some tricks to easily memorize the equations and how to know which formula to use when, as well as, some tricky questions outside of the textbook, just to make sure she's all set for tomorrow.
"I love bonds and gradients!", beamed Sonakshi
Chuckling, dev lightly hit her head with the book, "Crazy woman!"
"No seriously, I feel like it will go to my favorite list! It's just so much fun to do!!!"
"you're welcome! Okay now go to bed, you need enough sleep, otherwise you brain won't work."
"Wait, give me 40 more mins. I'm just gonna give a final revision and hit the bed I promise."
Dev checked the wall clock. It was 1:45 am already.
"Fine but not a second more than 40 minutes. I will get my laptop as well. Gotta give the finishing touch to my presentation for tomorrow."
Sonakshi gasped as the realization hit her, "Oh my god! It is 1:45 am! Dev you have office in the morning, why did you stay up for me!!! It went over my head in all these stress that you have to wake up early. I'm so sorry for being so selfish. I'm -"
"Sonakshi, Shut up!"
"No, I can't believe I made you stay till 2:00 am for my exams. I don't know how -"
"I swear if you don't shut up in the next 5 seconds, I will take up the other option to shut your mouth.", said dev as he looked dangerously at her plump lips.
He slowly started leaning towards her when she pushed him back and ran to her study table, blushing furiously to avoid the consequence. Smirking and shaking his head, he went to his room to get his laptop. When he came back after 20 minutes, Sonakshi was already asleep with her head on the table, her mouth open, glasses still on.
Putting his laptop on the table, he picked her up smoothly and slowly and placed her on the bed. Tucking her under the blanket, he carefully took off her spectacles, and placed it on the side table. Setting a body pillow between her legs and putting cushion around her side to make sure she doesn't roll over and fall, setting the alarm for 9:30 am as he calculated in his head so she gets enough hours of sleep as well as the sufficient time for revision, he placed a kiss on her forehead before turning the light off but not before whispering a soft "Good night, Love!"

Yeah I know, A single sorry won't do, a single update won't do, in fact, nothing can probably make up for my disappearance since September. To be honest with you guys, I just couldn't find the time to even breathe properly, that's how badly university had kept me on my toes. I know, I could have dropped a note, but I was just so stressed out with the courseload, nothing was making sense. and when i did get a bit of time during my Christmas break, and even 3 weeks ago, I lost all my motivation to complete this FF. I know, very unprofessional of me! But if i had written even a paragraph when i wasn't motivated, I swear to god, y'all would just quit reading my work 😆
Oh talking about quitting reading this SS, I am only going to continue if and only if I see fair amount of people (compared to the number of readers i had previously) liking and commenting, just so I know that people are actually reading it and liking it and i'm not throwing BS at this forum 😆 I would, of course, assume that a lot of you are probably not gonna continue reading it or probably lost interest and trust me, I understand. So please don't think i'm blackmailing/pressurizing y'all to read/like/comment. It is solely for my own information. obviously i or any writer, for that matter, wouldn't continue their work if there's not enough audience to give feedback 😊
I would like to apologize to every single one of you, who kept commenting on this thread, PMing me and scrapping me for updates. I saw all of them. I just didn't had any answer. but Now, I'm back, and in sha Allah will stick till the end 😳
Last but not the least, as you guy may know, Ramadan is starting this saturday, and so, I will mostly be inactive during Ramadan and so please don't get disappointed if I don't update. I promise (iA) I will finish this story after Ramadan. I might, though, give an update, once or twice during Ramadan but I won't promise whatsoever...
