[Note:This was a difficult chapter for me to write as i am not very good with describing the arguments and fight. Please ignore the typos as i have not proof read it. ]
Chapter 5:
There are times in life for which you can prepare yourself as much as you like , but when that time actually comes all your preparation goes out of the window. Same was the case with Dev and Sona. By the cruel twist of destiny they were infront of each other after all these years. None of them wanted to be in this situation. They both had worked very hard to bury the past but suddenly all the wounds were refreshed.
Sona came out of the daze. She still could not trust herself to speak, but she did manage to stand up straight on her feet. He looks still the same...she thought.
Speak something for god sake...you have been staring at him for minutes now..Her mind screamed.
"Hello" She managed..."Finally you found me".
When it came to business Mr. Dev Dixit was a force to reckon with because he could accurately read the mind of the person. In case of Sonakshi he didn't even had to try. He could read her inside out, more than she could ever imagine. But then this was not business.
"Looks like it's the other way around" He replied.
"I had no idea Dev" Sonakshi answered earnestly."I know it might sound unbelievable to you but I genuinely..."
"Don't bother with the explanation Miss Bose."Dev interrupted."I believe you".
"You do?" Sona was surprised.
"Yes..unfortunately..i know you too well"
Sona was surprised at the hint of sarcasm in his voice.
"I hope you are doing good", She asked gently.
"What do you think?" Dev countered.
"Well I am happy for you, really..." she said.
That did it. Dev was struggling desperately to keep his emotions in check. "This is not the right place" His mind kept telling him, but when had he ever acted reasonably in her presence?
"Can we talk about your presentation Miss Bose?" He asked dryly.
Even if Sona was surprised at his tone she didn't show it. She switched to her professional self.
"I would like to hear your view on it Mr. Dixit"
"I think your proposals are way too immature. It might look good on paper , but it's not practical" Dev supplied.
"Ok..which one you think is best among them?"Asked Sona.
"None. I reject them all"
Sona stared at him with absolute shock.
"You can't be serious...I worked on them very hard and you just..."
"That's not good enough reason to implement anything. You worked hard because that's your job. That does not make me obliged to accept whatever you say."Dev replied dryly.
"But you must have good reason to reject everything outrightly"She asked.
"Yes"
"And what is that?"She asked again
"You really think I will explain myself to you Miss Bose?"
Sona had nothing to say.
"You may go now. This was your first assignment and you did work hard. But I expect results. From next time on try to add element of practicality in your proposals" Dev dismissed her.
Sona lost her temper now.
"You are letting your personal emotions cloud your judgment Mr. Dixit. That is not a responsible thing to do. You of all people should know that".
Dev mentally counted till ten, slowly walked towards her, held her by waist ,brought her closer to him.
At this close proximity Sona's mind had already stopped working. She looked at him wide eyed.
She could feel his breath on her face.
"You think that it is always about you? My emotions are perfectly in check thank you, you did teach me that very well" Dev said slowly but firmly.
Sona feared he could hear her heartbeat. It was beating that loudly. The anger in his eyes stunned her.
"Leave me right now Mr. Dixit", She managed to speak.
Dev took a moment, tucked the strand of her hair behind her ear because it was obstructing his view to her face and released her.
Sona ran for her life. She needed quiet. Fortunately the washroom was empty. Once inside she sat on the floor.
What did just happen?
She had realized one thing in last fifteen minute. She could not trust herself infront of Mr. Dev Dixit anymore. Something was grossly different and wrong.
Dev could not believe what he just did. How the hell did things got out of hand in the matter of fifteen minutes? This was exactly opposite of what he had planned. Focusing on work was out of question . He had to fix this now.
Suddenly the door opened and there she stood with fire in her eyes.
"What do you think of yourself? You might be my boss, but Mr. Dev Dixit, I don't care now. I am resigning this very minute. You can keep your attitude to yourself. But if you think things are always gonna be the way you want you are severely mistaken." She was out of breath.
"I am leaving now" She fumed.
Dev smiled. That angered her more.
"Miss Bose" He called. She stopped."I do know now how to make things go my way"He replied.
"Also, a wise person once said : One must not let their emotion cloud their judgment".
"Here..drink some water" He offered her the glass. She ignored him and left .
God!He was pushing all the wrong buttons today.
She reached her desk and immediately started drafting her resignation letter. Aditya came running to her.
"Whats wrong Sonakshi??? "
"I can't work here anymore Adi. Please don't say anything now" Sona replied angrily.
"But what happened..?"
"Please don't ask me anything"
"Miss Bose!!!!" Dev called from her door. He was standing and watching all the commotion since few minutes.
"Here are some of the papers you signed. And here is your contract. Please read it once before you leave for home today" Saying this he left.
And there it was... the six month contract signed by every new joinee stating clearly that if a new employee leaves the company before six month is over , the company held every right to sue or fine them. The amount can range to as much as sixty thousand dollars.
Sona's anger crossed all its limit today.
"The nerve of that man!!!! He thinks he can actually scare me into this shit by shoving a piece of paper infront of me? Adi...the money will be transferred to the company's account in two days I promise"saying this Sona stomped away angrily.
Aditya Kapoor was aghast. This was getting out of hand. He rushed to Dev who was sitting on the chair and staring out of the window calmly.
"Dev..what happened?What did you tell her? "he asked.
"Nothing Adi...how is the Ohio issue being resolved?
"Screw Ohio Dev...tell me what did you tell her?She is not mad to just react like that..something is definitely wrong.We cant lose an employee like her" Adi was desperate.
"Everything will be all right now Adi", Dev said.
"I don't understand. She told me that she is willing to pay the fine".
One of many qualities which Dev possessed, confidence was the prime one amongst all. It was his confidence which made him what he was today. And it was the same confidence with which he looked at Adi and replied " She won't. I can bet my life on that".
