Chapter 11:
Warm dark chocolate, with specks of gold full of tenderness, concern, puzzle and discomfort...described Dev's eyes at that moment. And that is all which Sona could think about especially when he was standing this close to her making her logical side of the brain mute. When she cannot think clearly how will she speak clearly!!!
Her eyes has become a bit glassy..Dev realized. The question was too straightforward but now it was out in the open. She was simply staring at him wide eyes. He came a little more closer to her. Sona immediately reacted by looking down. He knew that she was uncomfortable but she had no idea what he was going through that very minute. It looked like his entire existence now depended on her reply to his very question. And this was the correct moment.
He held her face now...making her look at him again.
"I am waiting for your answer" He whispered..."And I am not leaving without hearing your reply today...not anymore".
She just looked and looked...her already hungover eyes full of pain and trouble.
Sona just tell me what is in your heart and I will make everything all right' Dev promised himself that very moment.
"Dev..." She managed to speak while trying to maintain some respectable distance between them.
Dev's mind went into high alert. Suddenly that distance seemed like miles to him. And that he could not let happen. So he simply stepped ahead and pulled her towards him and as she was not expecting him to react that way, she came crashing towards him. His heart rate spiked up now...She was too close to him and he didn't know how long can he stay sane this way without doing something stupid before she speaks up. The physical attraction between them was pretty evident now.
She panicked..
"Wo ..main...wo..."She muttered incoherently to Dev while resting her palm on his chest and trying to balance himself in his hold and at the same time trying to distance herself.
"Sona...relax...take a deep breath please"He whispered hoarsely.
Why can't he understand that she needs some distance to think' She thought desperately.
"Dev...choro mujhe"She tried again feeling his grip tighten on her more.
She had no idea what to do...how did her life become so complicated in a matter of weeks...she thought.
"Ek baar bhi meri yaad nahi aayi tumhe?" She heard him asking in a voice full of myriad emotions.
"Batao na" He tried searching for the answer in her eyes and suddenly she burst into tears.
He could handle anything in the world but seeing Sona cry was not in the list.
"Shit...I am sorry...sorry" He tried to pacify her but it was already too late.
"Leave me...you always do this" She sobbed.
Dev right hand was resting on her shoulder . Hearing this his hand just slipped to her waist and he pulled her towards himself further more,hugging her and closing all the distance between them.
Sona had blanked out by now. All she did was hold on to him ,rest her head on his chest and hear his heartbeat which was clearly audible now. They both stayed like that for god knows till when, forgetting about the world outside that room.
"You must hate me for making you cry everytime" He said emotionally .
"No..i don't hate you" She hiccupped.
"Sona..." He spoke with great difficulty.."I am still waiting".
That brought her out of the trance which she was in.He had managed to grabbed some tissues without leaving her.
"Dev...we are in your office..anyone can step inside any moment..koi kya sochega? What will they think about me? Tum yahi chahte ho mere liye?"
Dev left her immediately...hurt.
"You really think that?"Dev asked.
"All I know is that this is not the place for this kind of discussion. You are trying to corner me" She answered stubbornly.
"Ok..fine Miss Bose... We will talk about this tonight at some place where you are comfortable and where there will be no one to disturb us. And this is happening today" He retorted leaving the cabin.
From Sona to Miss Bose...he transitions very quickly...Sonakshi noted.
He needed fresh air to clear his mind too.
He worked like a maniac until evening till Tina reminded him of the family dinner with Sonakshi . And since he knew her too well..he knew that she will try to cancel the plan ..So Mr. Dev Dixit asked his mom to call her directly and invite her from her side as well,knowing very well that she won't be able to say no to her. And this did work.
Sona had no idea how to get out of this. Whatever happened in the afternoon she wanted some distance between them now and think about everything. She was not ready for any questions yet. Infact she was still getting used to the fact that she will need to see Dev everyday.
"Miss Bose"...he called..."We need to leave".
"I will come by the cab..you can go ahead" She said.
"Sonakshi...don't do this right now...chalo" Dev was not in his best mood now.
Arguing with him was useless she knew...So she simply followed him.
Meeting Dixits after this many years was an emotional experience for Sonakshi. They welcomed her with open arms. Infact Auntyji had cooked all her favouriate dishes.
"Sona di...aap to ekdum touch main hi nahi thi...why ???? Dev bhaiyaa tried to get your contact number so many times but kuch pata hi nahi chala...kahan chale gaye the aap?"
"Wo Nikki actually we shifted to Kolkata then"
"Haan but aise thore na suddenly you just go out of touch . Do you have any idea how much we all missed you"Nikki pouted.
Sona had no answer to that...she simply held her ears and said sorry to her and Nikki being Nikki forgave her immediately.
Dev excused himself and went to his room. All this was emotionally exhausting for him and he was not the one who showed his emotions easily.
"Sona di...why are you staying in an apartment when we are here...yahi par shift ho jao naa"Riya interjected.
"Haan beta...why are you staying all alone here"Ishwari agreed.
"Auntyji wo I am staying with Elina...abhi wo India gayi hui hai"Sona stammered.
"Ok ok..but kabhi bhi koi problem ho then you just come here"
Sona smiled...Ishwari aunty was still the same . Same warmth and kindness which she could sense in all her kids.
They talked a lot...during the meal and after the meal. Nikki , Riya and Neha wanted each and every detail of her life which happened during last seven years. She wanted to ask about Dev ..but couldn't . The sisters had no idea that she and Dev were a couple all those years back and she was sure Dev hadn't told them yet.Dev was absent the entire evening. Later Neha told her that he is busy working in his room.
When she finally got the time to look at her watch it was 1 AM already.
"Auntyji ..mujhe jana hoga..."Sona was worried now.
"Arey itni raat ko akele nahi jaane dungi...Ruko m calling Dev"Ishwari replied.
"Nahi nahi ...main chali jaungi aunty...my house is not that far"Dev and her ..alone...not a good idea!!!
"Akele nahi beta..bahut raat ho gayi hai"Ishwari was Dev's mom afterall. Both were equally persistent.
"Aunty Dev kafi tired lag rahe the...aap apne kisi driver ko..."
"Beta...i don't trust anyone else..you are my responsibility" She went out to call Dev.
This was the last thing which she wanted.
"We will talk about it tonight" He had said and she knew him too well to realize that he will not let it go easily.
"Chale?" Dev interrupted her.
"Haan...ok...bye aunty,nikki,riya,neha" She waved at everyone.
"Aati rehna..samjhi naa?"
"Sure aunty"
The drive was silent one. Surprisingly Dev was very calm. She could not help steal glance at him from time to time.
"I know you like looking at me. If you want I can stop the car..fir aaram se mujhe dekna"he said while focusing on the road.
"Nahi..wo main soch rahi thi"
"Good...you wanted to think...so I guess you got enough time to think"Dev muttered.
"Matlab?"
"Kuch nahi"He dismissed.
"Dev Neha told me about your struggle and hard work. I wanted to tell you that I am really proud of you."She told him quietly.
Dev was touched. He looked at her and smiled."I am proud of you too."
Sona smiled back.
The car screeched to stop outside her apartment. Sona was quick to get out of the car.
"I will go now...thank you Dev for dropping me...i know you must be very tired..."She rambled.
"Sona...maa had asked me to drop you till your home..chalo ab"Dev cut her short.
"Tum andar aaoge?"...(No no no)...she thought
"Haan"He replied
"Kyun???"
"Kyun matlab? You are scared of me?"he arched his eyebrow.
"Nahi nahi..i mean you must be tired and..."
"Well yeah...make me a cup of coffee then"He said.
"Coffee?"Sona was confused.
"Don't worry..i know how accident prone you are..i will help you make it"Dev assured.
"But.."
"Chale?"He asked in no nonsense tone ending their stupid argument then and there itself.
Damn you Dixit! She thought.
