Chapter 10:
An early morning sunshine finally managed to wake Sona up. All she knew and remembered was that she got wasted last night and that she has a terrible headache now. In next twenty second she realized that she is in her apartment on her bed.
"Hold on!!! Who brought me here?!!" She asked herself. This was bizzare and kind of creepy. Suddenly she noticed a note beside her pillow.
Take a day off if you want. Medicines are on your table ...that will help you with the hangover. And we need to talk. Call me when you feel better. Dev'
"Holy Shit!!! Dev brought me here and I don't remember a thing." She panicked.
Worst part was she could not even recall what all she spoke to him last night. And given her current state she was prepared to assume worst. Now the biggest question loomed on her was...how on earth is she going to go back and face him?
Should I take a day off? But what will I do tomorrow?' She thought.
It was as usual busy day for Dev Dixit. Things were at critical stage at work , he simply had no time and his sleep deprived mind was not helping much either. He hated the puzzle and right now his personal and professional life was full of it. He checked his watch. 1:30 PM.
"How are things between you and Sona?" Asked Adi.
"Sona? Its Miss. Sonakshi Bose" Dev corrected without even realizing.
"Accha..any more order?" Laughed Adi.
"Its not an order. This is a professional setting and you are addressing your colleague by their first name??That too by a nickname" Argued Dev.
"Dev...instead of saying all this why don't you just answer my simple question?"
"Things are fine"Dev tried to finish the discussion.
"Just fine?"
"Yes..Why?"Dev questioned back.
"Kuch nahi...rumor has it that our beloved CEO was in the bar last night rescuing a damsel in distress"Adi was not even trying to hide his laugh now.
"Chal kya raha tum dono ke beech main?" Adi probed.
"Nothing...I was there for some work and she needed help...so I just dropped her home"Dev tried.
"Accha...apni bahon main utha kar? And you had some work in a bar???Waah Dev Babu!!!"
Luckily Tina stepped in right at that moment and saved Dev from further interrogation.
Why hasn't she called yet?' He thought.
"Sir...I need your sign on these papers"Tina informed.
"Where is Kushal??Ask him to see me whenever he is free"
"Oh he is out talking to Miss Bose"She replied.
"Sonakshi is in the office?"Dev was surprised.'She didn't even call me'
"Umm...yes sir...she.."
"Ask her to come and see me now"He cut her short.
Tina did inform her but Sonakshi took her own sweet time to reach his cabin.
"Oh god...bacha lena aaj..pata nahi kya hua tha kal" She prayed silently when she reached his cabin's door and knocked.
"Come in" Came his crisp voice.
She entered timidly not sure what to expect.
Dev just looked at her. She was wearing an orange top and black formal skirt looking every inch of a professional that she was. Her eyes still looked tired though.
Orange is her colour' Dev thought inspite of his best effort to not get distracted.
"I told you to take a day off...why on earth are you here?? "He asked.
"I cannot sit all day and do nothing Dev...and I am fine now" was her reply.
"Are you sure?"Dev could not hide his concern however hard he tried.
"Haan"
"And Dev..thank you..for the last night.. I mean I ..."
"That's all right...I didn't knew that you have started drinking" He needed to change the topic.
"Actually I don't. last night I was just..."Sona said.
"That area is not safe at night therefore I had to come..I mean I know you can very well take care of yourself but since you are new to this city so..."Dev spoke after sometime.
Sonakshi looked at him now very carefully. Dev was giving her an explanation although she didn't even ask for one. Something was not right.
"Dev...I am sorry...I was not myself yesterday..it was irresponsible on my part to do whatever I did and thank you for helping me out" She said finally.
Dev shrugged.
"Btw Maa has invited you for the dinner tonight. I told her that you are in the city and she was overjoyed. Infact Neha, Nikki,Riya all are quite excited to meet you".He informed her.
Sona smiled...she loved Dev's family. They had so many memories togather and the idea of meeting them filled her heart with joy.
"I would love to meet everyone Dev"
"Perfect then...evening 8 PM? We will go straight to my house from the office"He offered.
"Hey No...I mean I am not dressed for the family dinner and...
"Relax...you don't have to be so formal with them..."He said and then added " you are looking good anyway".
"Oh"
Dev got up from his place and stepped towards Sona.
As usual all the alarm bells started ringing in her head. He always made her conscious when he was so close to her. Infact her ability to think clearly also used to get compromised.
"You are still uncomfortable when people compliments you." Dev smiled" Guess some things never change".
"Thank you" She said avoiding his eyes.
"You have beautiful eyes...and I have always loved to look at them since forever. You know this very well and yet you try your best to avoid any eye contact with me nowdays"
Dev Dixit was flirting with her!!! And Sona had no idea how to deal with this side of his personality. She could handle angry Dev...but this was difficult for her.
"Dev kal maine kuch aisa waisa to nahi kar diya naa?" She asked trying to change the topic.
Dev just smiled...making her more curious.
"Well let's just say that it's my secret now"
Sona needed air to breath now...
"Water?" Dev offered reading her mind.
"No thanks" ...this was what she hated...Him reading all her thought and she being all helpless about it.
Dev couldn't help laughing at her situation now.
"You know you look very cute when you are angry."
"I am not angry" She replied angrily evoking more laughter from Dev.
"Tum humesha mujhe pareshan karte ho" She retorted.." I will complain to auntyji today about you..pehle bhi tum..."
"Auntyji dekhiye naa...Dev aaj bhi mera majak uraya in school...sab mujhepar has rahe the" Sona complained to Ishwari.
"Dev...galat baat beta...sorry bolo usko"
"But maa...ye jo mujhe pareshan karti hai uska kya?"Dev explained.
"Wo sab mujhe nahi pata ...tumse choti hai wo...aise pareshan nahi karna chahiye"
"Not fair maa...isi baat ka faida utha rahi hai ye humesha se."Dev argued.
"Sorry bolo usko beta...and aage se koi majak nahi uraega kisi ka"Ishwari tried again.
"Sorry" Said Dev grumpily while Sona showed her tongue and ran away.
One look at Sona and Dev realized both were thinking the same thing. When you have so much of history togather it gets difficult to focus at present all the time. Dev knew he had to come to the point now.
"Natasha is just my friend" He said looking directly at her.
Sonakshi went speechless. She was embarrassed to the core now.
"Its none of my business Dev."she said.
"I know...but I felt this needs to be clarified because I have to ask you something important"
"Yes?"
Dev took one full minute trying to frame the right question but what came out was too straight forward for both of them.
"Do you still love me Sona?"
