I also think that Dev should have at least hinted to this mother that he fancies Sona or discussed the general topic of dating/marriage and it would have totally been normal coming from the back of his break up with Natasha. Is he wrong for hiding his relationship though? No, he isn't. It's human nature to hide your relationship with a boy or a girl from your parents because you're scared of how they would react and naturally so is Dev. He just wants to understand and build his relationship with Sona before he decides to go public.
I can understand Ishwari feeling bad that Dev didn't share this with her but seriously her being rude to Sona and treating her like she has influenced Dev to go against Ishwari's expectations of him his beyond ridiculous. WHY DOESN'T SHE CONFRONT HER SON? Why is she acting like it's not bothering her?
Both Dev and Ishwari have a complicated relationship in that they share a lot but they don't understand each other as well as they think they do - This is where Sona plays her part as a life partner/lover. There are some things in life that you can't share with your parents which you share with your friends or your partner AND IT'S NOT WRONG DO SO. (lol sorry for the caps i'm not yelling at you haha)
I would've sympathised with Ishwari a lot more if she was possessive about all her kids the same way she is with Dev because then I could be like oh yeah she just loves her children and doesn't want to become meaningless in their lives but the way she treats her daughters makes me feel less for her. She is being selfish by not thinking that her son is entitled to find happiness and love. HE IS A HUMAN FOR GOD'S SAKE! Like is he going to be single forever??? If not Sona then it would've been someone else - did she just want him to celibate too until he dies??? Ishwari isn't scared that she would become meaningless, she is scared that she would lose the power and control she has over her son and in my opinion is wrong.
Sorry this turned out to be a rant on Ishwari but yeah I hope you get my point. Thanks for posting your opinion :)
