I wanted to write this back last time when Sona was defending Ranveer over Neha.
Few points.
1) Neha is as good as a parent in the Dixit family. To the people who want to call Neha a parasite, tell me the day when the family do not constantly acknowledge her role in the family being what it is today. She had to be sacrificed to give Dev the best education, and she brought up the two girls who got their education.
If Neha doesn't have a right to the family's (Dev's) wealth, then fine say it straight out. That Neha is on her own.
But the family and show are both hypocritical by simultaneously praising Neha as a backbone and as an elder, and then treating her as some spoiled daughter.
She has a right to the wealth. She most likely has her share of the wealth, and if she doesn't, she SHOULD.
The hypocritical and chauvinist thoughts the show and people put forth are ridiculous.
One the one hand, Sona will enjoy the rich life when she gets married. Not only that, the people who criticize Neha and Sona herself would agree for the right of a woman to work after marriage, and would think less of a man who wouldn't 'allow' this.
Yet, they want to take away from Neha the rightful share of wealth she has from her family.
What Sona has in her career and job, is what Neha has from background and the money she has a RIGHT to. (If she doesn't have a right, then have the guts by the family and the show to cut her off.) Instead we are shown as Dev having control of everything, and the guy who was going to give a good percentage of his company along with money to Sameer, doesn't have any kind of bank account or Trust fund set up for Neha? Okay, Neha was at first not educated enough to handle it all ..but she is learning and is smart enough and has learned English enough. Give her her rightful 'hissa.'
Such a hypocritical society.
Dowry initially was said to be for the bride's security. Even today there are some cultures which practice somewhat like dowry where the bride is sent with things needed for married life. In India it is rightfully an illegal practice due to what the practice is in the society.
However, the illegality of dowry DOES NOT mean that the bride shouldn't or doesn't have the right to bring in her own wealth and riches with her.
People acting as if Neha has no right to these things are no better and placing women in boxes and in subservient roles. They go to their husband's place and must abide by those rules. Forget if they are well off or have their own abilities and riches, but no...adjust to husband's poor lifestyle and the girl cannot do anything to try to make it better.
Then those same people look upon men and families who don't want girls to work as backwards. What is the difference between the two? Sona has a career due to her family paying for her education and her studying and putting work in. Neha has a right to her family's money due to her work and sacrifices she has made.
Let this show end with Dev losing or giving up all his wealth and being a pauper, not able to get beyond a small-time job and Dev and Sona and Ishwari living on Sona's nutritionist salary. XD (His sisters will be married off. So no need to worry about them.)
Then, and only then Sona and the show can lecture and try to make some kind of 'point-to-be-made' about Neha's 'selfishness'.
