To mark the closing of the second season of his chat show, Karan Johar is having a fun Koffee Awards ceremony
Bottoms Up! Rohit Bal, Karan Johar, Malaika Arora and Cyrus Broacha
Karan Johar does things in style – even if it is bringing in the closing of his chat show Koffee With Karan. Here, we get a peep into what the awards are all about, various categories and his memorable moments on the show.
Why Koffee awards?
It's a fun award. We wanted to end the season with fun. We are having different categories on the look, glamour quotient, best male and female for rapid-fire questions, best male and female for supporting pair etc. The idea is not to take the awards seriously. KWK was a funny and irreverent show and so are the awards.
Who are the judges?
Malaika Arora, Rohit Bal, Cyrus Broacha and me.
On what criteria were they selected?
Malaika for her eye-candy, glamour and value for opinion, Rohit for his fashion and design sense and Cyrus for pure entertainment. Whatever opinion the others had, his was the exact opposite.
This will be the only award show in history, which begins and ends in the first year?
Yes. Maybe the other shows should also end (laughs). We are clever. We are ending the awards show in the first year before it gets unfair. I have to say the Koffee awards (which constitutes a big gold coffee mug) are fair, unbiased and honest. Ours is the first awards of the season.
Any red carpet ceremony?
No darling, because we can't afford it. It's a low budget award ceremony.
Three awards for SRK?
Yes, but I can't reveal which ones. I only want to say is that it was fair, unbiased and honest.
Your fav episode?
Whenever Shah Rukh has been on the show it has been a hit. He makes great TV and his shows are the best and most glamorous ones ever.
Now that Koffee With Karan ends, what's next?
I will miss it a lot. It was an integral part of my persona. Now I will go back to producing and directing films but I do intend doing a show on NDTV. I still have to structure it.
Do you feel film awards need more categories?
One should take awards seriously only the year one gets them and not otherwise —that's my mantra. If I get them I take them seriously, otherwise I say they've been unfair.
