Lover's tiff at Holi party

It is natural to be possessive in love, and this side to Kishwer Merchant came to the fore when at the Holi party, beau Hiten probably got a little high on bhang or did the most normal thing to do given it was Holi celebrations and a little mauj-masti was allowed.

Manmeet Gulzar and wife Karishma had got along two hot and sexy female friends of theirs. It is rumoured this was done in an attempt to keep Neeraj Rawal company but inadvertently Hiten too played Holi with the girls, splashing colours and having a good time in general which his girlfriend did not take lightly. There was a slight skirmish between them after which everything was back to normal.

Says a TV actor on conditions of anonymity, "Hiten must have sowed his wild oats in the past, but after he got hitched to Kishwer, he has been totally loyal to her." So, that goes to make it clear that Merchant's suspicious nature should not get the better of her in the future.

Roshni Chopra
Of late, Roshni Chopra aka Pia has been missing in action on Kasamh Se. The actress, who tied the knot recently, makes frequent trips to the capital just to be with her family. Needless to say, the production house has also given in to Chopra's diva demands for a flexible shooting schedule. When quizzed about her absence on the show Roshni says, "Now, I am out of Jai Walia's house and the focus is not on my track. My track is running parallel and I am not totally out of the picture. But, obviously, the focus is more on Prachi and Ram for the moment. But, I am happy the time I am getting out of my shoots. I have been in Delhi for over a week now."

However, the actress has no intentions of cutting down on work. After having juggled three shows, she intends to take up a few more telly assignments. "When I take up more projects, I will have a choc-o-block schedule. So, I am utilising the much needed time I am getting now," she says. No wonder hubby Siddharth is more than happy. "Siddharth just can't believe that I have so much time for him and my family. It feels so nice when you can make your dear ones enormously happy by spending quality time with them," she adds.

However, this hasn't gone down well with her co-stars. A few have been getting envious about all the free time that Roshni is getting. "The production house has obviously agreed to all her demands. She is lesser in the picture these days. Post- marriage, there has been a marked change in Roshni's behaviour. Unlike her bubbly self she has mellowed down these days," says a co-star on condition of anonymity.

Just Married: Marriage was only the beginning
< style =text/css> < = =text/>

By Taran Adarsh, March 16, 2007 - 13:01 IST

P.N.C.'s PYAAR KE SIDE/EFFECTS was all about commitment. About a young couple that's into a serious relationship, but is not ready for marriage. Its theme as also its execution was its USP.

The corporate entity's new film JUST MARRIED: MARRIAGE WAS ONLY THE BEGINNING talks of arranged marriage. The parents of two educated, city-bred people decide to get them married. The girl finds the concept [arranged marriage] odd, but bows down to her parents' wishes nonetheless. The couple goes on a honeymoon to Ooty and gets acquainted with four more couples.

Does it ring a bell? Of course, the premise bears resemblance to the recent HONEYMOON TRAVELS PVT. LTD. Nothing wrong if two directors think alike, but JUST MARRIED: MARRIAGE WAS ONLY THE BEGINNING doesn't pack in a solid punch in those 2 + hours.

Problems, problems, problems…
Problem 1: The film stands on a weak foundation [story]. The newly-wed couple has problems in their relationship because the guy wants to consummate the marriage, while the girl is uncomfortable. She has her reasons. But the reasons aren't strong enough. Actually, there's no issue as such. It's akin to making a mountain out of a molehill!

Write your own movie review of Just Married
Problem 2: Besides the protagonists [Fardeen-Esha], the film introduces you to four other couples [Kirron Kher-Satish Shah / Sadia Siddique-Mukul Dev / Tarina Patel-Raj Zutshi / Perizaad Zorabian-Bikram Saluja]. Barring the Kirron Kher-Saitish Shah track, the remaining couples are mere props. They have nothing worthwhile to do!

Problem 3: It's too slow. The story unravels at a lethargic pace. As it is the storyline is waferthin and to top it all, the snail pacing!

The outcome: Just not happening!

Two individuals: Abhay Sachdeva [Fardeen Khan] and Ritika Khanna [Esha Deol]. Strangers, but for a sole meeting. On the fringes of familiarity, but with their destinies firmly entwined forever. Married to each other yet outsiders together on their honeymoon.

Far away in Ooty, 290 kms. from home in Bangalore, Abhay and Ritika begin their journey as husband and wife on their 5-day honeymoon. Along the way they chance upon several people -- some couples, some individuals, some believers in the institution of marriage and the romance of togetherness, some non-believers.

Abhay and Ritika have never held hands, never walked together in the rain, never romanced each other and yet, as per ritual, they have to spend five days together in one room, with one bed, as husband and wife, in a situation where they are expected to love each other and become lovers.

JUST MARRIED: MARRIAGE WAS ONLY THE BEGINNING is a film set amidst middle class India where romance and love start at the ultimate commitment -- marriage. Will Abhay and Ritika find friendship and become lovers? Will they survive their new-found relationship as husband and wife? Or will their honeymoon be the beginning of the end?

JUST MARRIED: MARRIAGE WAS ONLY THE BEGINNING fails to hold your attention after an appealing start. In fact, you watch the film with rapt attention till Fardeen and Esha embark on their honeymoon and reach Ooty. Once there, the story comes to a grinding halt. The incidents that follow range from ordinary to dull, with the moviegoer feeling restless as the story progresses.

The first hour is at least tolerable, but the second half goes down completely. The screenplay is devoid of drama and what you watch is a repetition and reflection of sequences that you watched in the first hour. In fact, there's no twist in the tale except when the Bikram-Perizaad affair stands exposed. That too is abruptly handled!

The finale is quite amateurish. In fact, very filmy. Esha realizes that she loves her husband before the catastrophe is about to occur. In the first place, Fardeen had always been an understanding man and Esha should've realized his worth much before the accident.

Meghna Gulzar's script is uninteresting, while her direction is just about okay. To her credit, she has drawn competent performances from Fardeen and Esha, besides handling a few moments between them with maturity. Pritam's music is passable. 'Ram Milaye Jodi' is the sole track that you feel like humming. Cinematography [Sachin Krishn] is eye-catching. Dialogues are wonderful, especially those delivered by Kirron-Satish.

Fardeen delivers his most believable and honest performance to date. He is slowly evolving into a fine actor. Esha too is only getting better with every film. After ANKAHEE, this is yet another striking performance. Satish Shah and Kirron Kher are fantastic and provide ample laughs throughout.

Bikram Saluja enacts his part efficiently. Perizaad is likeable. One wants to see more of this perky actress! Sadia is alright, while Mukul Dev is wasted. Tarina Patel is expressive, while Raj Zutshi gets minimal scope. Anita and Eijaz Khan leave an impression in brief roles. They look good together!

On the whole, JUST MARRIED: MARRIAGE WAS ONLY THE BEGINNING is a weak fare with not much to salvage it. Disappointing!

Guru gyaan on the sets of Kayamath

The young, vivacious and hyperactive Jay Bhanushali has been getting some nudges from Eijaz Khan. Recently, it was observed that the young gang was tired and hence got very lackadaisical about their scenes due to erratic schedules. That's when Eijaz had to step in and pep in some energy. Since then, Jay aka Neev and Eijaz have bonded like brothers. Jay says, "Eijaz often drags me from the van. Also, I like the fact that he tells me that it's my show and I should treat it with all the responsibility."
We think, its nice to see senior actors teaching positive things to the generation X and not being insecure about competition. And this, in spite of the speculations about Eijaz's role in Kayamath being bumped off. But going by his attitude, we think he'll stay on in Kayamat for some more time at least.

Where does Renuka fit in Star Parivaar?
By: Shaheen Parkar
April 14, 2007

The grand dames: Sakshi Tanwar and Renuka Shahane in a promo of the Star Parivar Awards 2007

Even though Renuka Shahane is now the face of Sony in Jeete Hai Jiske Liiye, she is a contender for the Star Parivaar Awards 2007!

If this looks a bit strange, it is because this year's gala is celebrating actors and shows on the channel of the past five years — Renuka finds mention because of her performance in Asha Parekh's Kora Kagaz! As this is the fifth edition of the awards, the channel is celebrating a high-five.

The event will be held in May at south Mumbai's National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA).

According to Harsh Rohatgi, GM (content and communications), Star, "The Star Parivaar awards celebrates characters and not actors.

We have all the well-known names from the shows of the past years for this edition of the awards."

Past v/s present

Star Parivaar provides a platform for the viewers to vote for their favourite characters. So the nominations are for the best bahu, best pati, best beti, best saas.

Apart from these popular categories, there is also for the first time, a Hall of Fame, which will also be decided by the Star viewers.

This category includes Smriti Z Iraani, Sakshi Tanwar, Dolly Sohi who will be competing with actors from Star's earlier soaps like Neena Gupta (Saans), Renuka Shahane (Kora Kagaz) and Aroona Irani (Des Mein Nikkla Hoga Chand).

There are also special awards for members of soap families who have been with the audience over five years.

The awards gala has a Musical Broadway as its theme. Expected to perform are the Saans couple Neena Gupta-Kanwaljeet, Kiran Kumar-Aroona Irani to young couples like KT-Lakshya and Prachi-Neev besides Prerna.

The event telecast on Star Plus, has popular characters also hosting the event. There is also a red carpet and several pre and post event bashes of the Parivaar awards.

Is The Bump Bhowing? Hiten Tejwani and Gauri Pradhan
A few days ago, an entertainment website carried an interview with TV actor Hiten Tejwani where he openly admitted that wifey Gauri Pradhan was one month pregnant.

After the story was published, his phones rang off the hook and then Hiten feigned amnesia. Oopsy, looks like Hiten spilled the beans a tad too early!

We know that a lot of people are superstitious about pregnancies in the first few months, which is why we're surprised that Hiten first couldn't contain the happy news and then decided to deny it.

Anyhoo, if Gauri really is preggers, here's our heartiest congratulations. And if she isn't, then Hiten's got some serious explaining to do to the wifey!

PS: In case the couple needs pregnancy-related advice, they should get in touch with Mahima Chaudhary pronto (you know, the actress who wears a tent to camouflage her baby belly).

Travel with Eijaz Khan

Eijaz Khan who is most recently known as Varun from Kayamath, talks about his trips abroad, his favourite travel destination and his love for adventure sports.

Sky Diving
The actor's ideal holiday is going sky diving in Dubai and he keeps returning time and again:

"I keep going sky diving in Dubai. My cousin stays there so visit I stay with him. It maybe a dangerous thrill but to me it's much safer than marriage where you take the plunge for life! But seriously it brings you closer to God. It's a feeling that nothing else can duplicate. I can't describe it because it really has to be experienced to know what it feels like.

I used to be scared of heights so in order to get over it I tried sky diving. It's been over a year and a half since I started now.

I was most scared when our small white plain rose many thousand feet above the ground. At first I was terrified but the 90 second free fall made up for all the fear.

I like white water rafting and I enjoy riding my bikes. In India I have Enfield Bullets and in Dubai I have a Kawasaki Ninja. I've also been on the desert safari and all of those things in Dubai."

Eijaz doesn't spend a bit of his time shopping in the city known for its stores:
"I hardly shop when I'm in Dubai. I have a cupboard full of clothes with the tags still on so there is no point in shopping. I'm basically very comfortable in jeans and plain t-shirts. If I go out the maximum I do is put a shirt over it. I really don't understand how people can wear suits or even formal shoes with the weather here."

"I want to travel more within India now"
"My holiday destination keeps changing every year. I've been all over the US, Europe, South Asia and Spain. I haven't been to Australia so I would like to go there.

Unfortunately I haven't explored India as much as I would like to. We have so many beautiful places. The infrastructure is there but it's just not marketed right.

In Kamshet there is a para-gliding which people have just gotten to know about. There are a lot of water sport facilities in India which are hardly known.

I'm dying to go to New Zealand. There you can tour the whole country in a car. Indian licenses are valid there so I can get a car and drive around the whole place."

Eijaz doesn't like being a tourist:
"If I'm going with someone or a group of people then it's likely that we stay in a comfortable hotel though I think that takes something away from the trip. When you hop straight from the airport to the 5 star hotels you're basically losing the flavor of the place you're visiting. I think all the touristy things are way too touristy for me.

I'd rather stay in a middle budget place that isn't very formal and distant from the town because trust me- if you've been to one 5 star you've been to all! When I visit a country I stay at a local hotel and talk to the people around. In Mauritius I stayed at this small inn and got to know the bar tender of the place. We became very good friends and he introduced me too all the snorkeling and speed boat activities around the area. I got to enjoy the place more.

I'm not much of a history person. If there is a predominant sight which is worth seeing I would go but there is hardly anything you can do with a sight. I prefer to actually be able to do stuff."

"I have a real big problem with food"
"I don't eat sea food and when I went to South East Asia practically everything was stinking of it! I really can't stand the smell of it and the thought of fish, prawns or crabs makes me sick. I don't even sit on the same table as people who are eating it! In South East Asia I ended up living on burgers and protein supplements.

I make it a point to try Indian restaurants at least once no matter where in the world I am. After a while abroad I start to crave for Indian cuisine. I've noticed that even though they serve Indian food it will have a typical flavor linked to the country it is in."

You won't find the actor even near a camera on his holidays!
"I hate taking pictures! When spend all your time behind the camera you're not seeing anything around the place. You will hardly find many pictures of me on holiday. I think it's a waste."

Nandini-Nikkhil war takes legal turn

yeh dosti mehengi padi: Nikkhil Arya and Nandini Singh pic/yogen shah

Tushar Joshi and Sandipan Dalal

sandipan.dalal@mid-day.com

There was a time when the industry was buzzing with talks about romance brewing between Nikkhil Arya and his Kesar co-star Nandini Singh. They were spotted at several parties across town and liked posing for photographs. However, things have changed. A few weeks ago, we heard talk about Nandini and Nikkhil having showdowns on and off the set. "She would keep screaming at him and even getting physical at times. Everyone on the Kesar set knows how big a problem Nandini is. She has weird mood swings and is capable of creating problems at the drop of a hat," says an actress.
Temper tantrums
After the fighting subsided, a member of the unit confirmed that Nandini had taken her grudge with Nikkhil one step further and filed a complaint at a local police station. "Nikkhil thought Nandini was kidding when she started talking about going to the police. He was fed up of her constant tantrums, yelling, accusations and complaints. In fact, there were members of the unit who tried to talk Nandini out of doing something so silly," says a friend close to Arya.
Getting possessive
In the past, Singh has had problems with everyone she has worked with, including Eijaz Khan. However, an actress who knows Singh well, says, "There is no doubt that Nandini is temperamental and loses her cool very easily. But she isn't a bad person, it's just that she's misunderstood. Her problems with Nikkhil started after they became friends. She took him to be her boyfriend and got really possessive. Nikkhil, on the other hand, was not interested in Nandini at all. He was just being a good boy and posing for pictures. However, he didn't know

Hiten's fashion must-haves!

Hiten Tejwani, Karan Virani of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is presently in a predicament as he is married to two women: Nandini and Tanya.

Karan is madly in love with Nandini, however, circumstance made him marry Tanya. Now that Nandini is back in his life he is torn between what to do. Who will he eventually choose? We've no idea and neither does he. So we ask Hiten to choose his fashion favourites, a less complicated choice than poor Karan Virani faces.

Perfume: Issey Miyake.

Clothes brand: I don't go for brands. If I like the clothes then the brand doesn't matter.

Jeans: Diesel.

Electronic gadget: My laptop.

Sun glasses: I don't wear them much.

Hair care: I don't use any products on my hair.

Accessory: I need to have my belt, shoes and Tag Heuer watch.

Shoes: My Replay boots. I like them because they are rounded in the front and not pointed.

Where do you shop the most: I shop in Lokhandwala, Mumbai.

Most expensive fashion item bought: My Diesel belt. It costs 6000 rupees.

The item which had most value for money: My jeans by Diesel were quite costly. They're available at 4000-5000 rupees but I feel they have value for money.

Wardrobe must have: I think it's important for men to have some perfumes.

Style secret: I don't think there is such a thing as style. To me style is choosing clothes what look good on you and carrying that off well. That's no secret!

What do you over spend on: I don't over spend.

What do you think you look the best in: Casual clothes like jeans and a T- shirt.

Style icon: I have never bought anything or worn anything because I've seen it on someone else. I haven't been inspired by anyone's style but I think Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan are very stylish individuals.
