Says Suchitra Alias Anjali Of 'Kavyanjali'

Popular television actress Suchitra who shot into fame from the run away hit television serial 'Kavyanjali' playing the role of Anjali had a cake walk in clinching the popularity. But her way to such popularity is blood curdling and full of thorns. Suchitra alias Anjali of 'Kavyanjali' television currently on air (in Udaya TV from 10 to 10.30 pm daily soap) has moved out after 141st episode only because of mental torture sustained all the days she worked ever since she received the best actress award given by Aryabhata Cultural Association. Although it is a small screen the problem is too big to face.

"I was called as 'loafer' (yet another un-parliamentary word), a call girl, myself and my mother were called as bitch. I worked under severe ill health by taking glucose and electrol energy syrup". Still some of the unit members told that my career would be finished in the industry. The entire team of 'Kavyanjali' was up against me. I did not want to be a SLAVE told Suchitra bravely to this correspondent at the Chitraloka office.

What for all these things happened?
It is because I signed 'Rekhegalu' new mega serial for ETV. I had allotted from original 15 days to 20 days to 'Kavyanjali'and allotted only 10 days to 'Rekhegalu' television serial. They wanted more time and I could not go by my commitments. Director Ravi Garani and cameraman Suresh Bairasandra unnecessarily flared up.

Who gave you maximum torture?
Both Ravi Garani and cameraman Suresh Bairasandra gave maximum trouble to me. The cameraman asked me to come to room and I was asked to spend free time with him. I did not budge to this call. I hail from a respectable family. But the cameraman told that all the others come with him why not you he asked. No one was ready to dare him.

Ravi Garani went by the statement made by others and never consulted me in attacking. One day a unit member complained that I went home by stating that my child is dead. This was an absolute rubbish allegation. The director went to the extent of acting that he has got heart trouble only because I am not available for their time. At one stage the cameraman told who would watch ETV? The other members used to tell me that I would not be in the industry.

When did the ruckus started?
Up to 100 episodes it was OK. I gave immense attachment to this television serial because I have a major role and secondly it is made by Balaji Telefilms. When I started doing 'Rekhegalu' I started facing problems in 'Kavyanjali' unit one by one. They used to treat me like a slave. I really broke down because of dehydration on last month 17th. They did not give me permission to attend the hospital for 10 minutes. I took drips on that night and respecting my job I attended the shooting next day. On that day the director Ravi came and uttered very shabbily. My mother was always with me and that gave me courage.

How did the other colleagues respond to your problem?
For no mistake of mine they all told me that I should apologize to the director. I said a strong no. All of them were with the director side. I sustained all problems because the television serial was coming out good despite of Ravi Garani not directing many of the episodes. Secondly it was from a reputed banner and thirdly because there were 150 people working for livelihood. At one point of time Rajesh Pavitran came from Mumbai and asked us to wind up.

How did the climax happen for your exit?
There was a nice gentleman production manager Chandrasekhar. I told him that I would wait next day for his car to take me to the Krishnakumari estate for shooting. The next day he called up and told me that he is going to bring Bhavyasri Rai in my place for 'Kavyanjali'. That was the end of it. I kept quite and it is now rain of telephone calls from the viewers for my replacement.
