Part XVIII

Kavya Nanda could not digest this. This was his baby after all. Why hadn't Anjali said anything? Kavya was left behind at his home among people that were severely small, ever scrambling for money over relationships and those that were too weak willed to face reality. Had Kavya lost his baby to Yug. Could he try to beg his way back into his baby's life? Yes, he could do that, for all the insults what else could a helpless father do? Kavya reached Yug's home the next morning.

Anjali and Nivee were playing with their baby. Yug was nowhere to be seen. After all the man worked, he had to take care of his business for his kishmish. Kavya spoke with Anjali and asked her why, how? Anjali showed Kavya the truth. Kavya read a letter written several months back just before Anjali and Yug were to get married. The truth, the honesty, the courage he read made Kavya want to kill himself for being so weak.

Yug had written,

"My dear Anjali,

Maybe you will hurt, maybe you will cry, and maybe you will be broken. But, I cannot deny you the hope that there will be a time when you will be back with your Kavya. I will pray for the time when he will hold your baby in his arms, when the both of you wake up together next to your child.

It breaks my heart to see you torn apart convincing yourself you love me. Maybe you do, but there are so many colors to love. You and I maybe share a different one. As much as I want to hold you in my arms and love you, I cannot. I will be there for you and for your baby, I promise to give you everything. I will promise to love the baby like my own.

If you can find it in your heart please forgive me, but I cannot marry you. Because I can give you everything but my conscience.
