Earth's final conflict
Chapter 4
Heer Maan returned to her New York office. She started to think over her meeting with Major Prem Juneja. Heer had no doubt in her mind that she found Prem Juneja as an interesting man. He seemed like have a very deep philosophy of American patriotism and universal humanism.
She thought over what Prem said to her. She did not know that major Prem Juneja's mother was a parsi. Ancient Persia was a major genetic source of fair-skinned people 2500 years ago and Indian Punjab had admixture of various ancient ethnic and racial people.
However, Heer still could not fully believe in Prem's statement. She knew she could not directly told Prem that, his skin tone even with 50% parsi heritage raised some questions. Prem very clearly indicated that he did not believe in any racial or ethnic identity. It seemed like behavior of the relatives of his parents turned him against tribalism.
Heer could relate to that type of mindset and actually, she respected Prem for having such worldview. However, Heer knew that she slightly disagree with Prem due to ground reality.
Yes, it would be better if people of all over the world considered themselves primarily as same human race and did not resent each other.
But, the real world did not work that way. Even in 21st century, many people quickly divide themselves into various tribes.
According to Heer, Prem had a more idealistic view compare to another army person.
Heer also found that, for Prem his American identity is very much important. Prem was a very fine example of quick assimilation to American mainstream. Second generation immigrants generally had some kinds of cultural affinity towards their ancestral countries. However, Prem had no cultural affinity with India. For him India was just another foreign country.
Heer was also a second-generation immigrant but unlike Prem, she still had some considerable cultural affinity towards India. She would never forget her root. She loved America being a US citizen but she also has a soft spot for India.
May be it was because of the personal experiences that made them apart. Heer's parents left India without having any resentment. Her mother always reminded her apart from being a modern American girl, she also need to know some basic things about their culture. Heer's life was shaped by that despite being modern; she still cherished some Indian value.
Heer also saw in early 90, how some white American made racist comments towards her father due to his dark complexion, he saw how her father's business attacked by some extremist black panthers in LA race riots. She also saw how in school she sometimes felt alone. She saw how her Indian American neighbor forbidding their child from making white friends.
She saw all of that but she also saw the huge progress in American race relations in last 15 years, people had become lot more open towards each other. People were celebrating different festivals and rituals.
However, the problem of racism still slightly existed in usa and therefore people had different experiences.
On the other hand, Prem's parents were deeply hurt by their relative's behavior and because of that once they reached in USA they adopt a full American life style and they completely abandon their native cultural practices. Heer assumed they were also had a comparatively lighter skin tone then average Indian American and being highly educated and professional background they assimilated and somewhat accepted in American mainstream.
Prem having raised by his parents as simply American never thought about ethnicity, race too much for him being American was enough to satisfy his identity.
He also had very light skin tone and exotic facial feature for a non white person and, therefore he might never had any deep experience about race, ethnicity and ultimate he did not have a complex identity of a second generation of Indian American.
Prem Juneja also joined most socially, racially integrated us organization of usa which was USA army, where people of all color and ethnicity fought together as American family. He joined usa army right after 9/11 which made him to adopt more patriotic mindset and then he joined in American government project.
Therefore, Heer told herself that, she should not be surprised that, Prem would be very patriotic.
Heer realized how different life experiences could result into different worldview. Nevertheless, at the same time she realized that, Prem's universal humanism ideology and American patriotism ideology provided her an opportunity to recruit him into the resistance movement. She could motivate Prem to questions Telon's activity and could ultimately make him more sympathetic towards resistance movement.
Nevertheless, beside that, Heer would test him with various things, various situations.
"I will test you and know you better, you will not able to hide yourself from me." Heer remarked.
In Telon Embassy
Prem was not surprised when he was called by Daaon. He would be greatly surprised if Daaon did not call him. Prem was very much interested to know Daaon's point of view on various issues as Daaon was the most moderate Telon in regards of human.
Prem realized the importance of establishing a good relationship with Daaon. Daaon had a vast knowledge and influence over the whole Telon agendas. Prem also knew there would be a sure power struggle for upcoming leadership contest between Daaon and Zooron. Prem knew that, no Telons murdered another Telon until today but hunger for power could make people to do unthinkable.
"Major Juneja, welcome here, I hope Major Sandoval have explained everything to you?" Daaon asked Prem after Prem entered into his office.
"Major Sandoval was very helpful in explaining everything. Sir, what is the progress in investigating the alien device which was attacking on the Telon?" Prem asked Daaon.
"Major, our intelligence personnel are working in co operation with FBI to investigate the device which is called Elannax. It is a very sophisticated device, which is created by our rival race Daaharian that device had many functions and one of them was acting as a killing machine.
Now Major I feared that, there is another Elannax, which we do, not able to detect yet. However, I am suspecting that, it is still moving in Washington DC. Major you realized there is only one Telon who regularly visit various areas of DC, which is I. So realistically, I am the only viable target of another Elannax. You are my protector Major; therefore, I think you should have a direct influence and presence in the investigation. Major I have no doubt that, you will provide important insight into the whole investigation." Daaon told Prem.
Prem was glad that he was getting the direct opportunity to investigate the whole Elannax thing. Prem genuinely wanted to catch the Elannax, as he wanted to prevent unnecessary killing. Prem also knew it was an excellent opportunity for him to show his efficiency in the job.
"Sir, I will be very glad to play an active role in the whole investigation, but can you give me a brief profile of Daarhian?" Prem requested Daaon.
Prem obviously knew important things about Darrhian. He had inherent knowledge about each alien race due to his alien heritage. However, he was very much interested to know the Telon point of view about their rival race. He also wanted to see how much truthful Daaon was with him.
"Once upon a time Telons and Daarhian were the same race. Nevertheless, when he encounter with Kanox race things started to change. Kanox was a very advanced race but they were brutal in their battles. They used a biogenetical weapon against us, which created a situation of emotional imbalance among our ancient ancestors.
Our scientist used another biological weapon against them and all the Kanox died one by one because of that. However, before their death they caused an irreversible damage to our species. Suddenly people our species became more aggressive, they were losing themselves in anger, hatred. They even developed a power called shakarava, which means producing fire and light from your hand, soon the situation to become too volatile.
To solve that situation our scientist proposed building a common neurological bond among all population of our species that would address the problem of violent and angry mentality of our people. But, a significant portion of our species deny to do that.
They loved their power, the anger, and emotion made them happy. They got separated from rest of us and went to another planet, and they biologically evolved in different way. In today's Telon race, all Telons are mentally linked together and we could feel each other thought, problem and that help us to maintain clam attitude. Nevertheless, Daaharian are not like that.
Daharrain invaded planet after planet, they are very ruthless in their mission of inter galactic domination. They want to destroy us, as we are the biggest obstacle in the path of their success.
Now, major during investigation you will need technical and structural support as we know Elannax is a very technically sophisticated device." Daaon told Prem.
"I was also thinking about that." Prem told Daaon.
"You don't need to worry about it anymore, our best human partner of Telon-human project Doore international has agreed to provide you both man power and technical support. " Daaon informed Prem.
"Yes, it is more than that, the co director of Doore international and Telon project Ms. Heer Maan herself volunteered for the investigation as she believed safety of Telons is one of the most important priorities of joint project. Major please wait here, Ms. Maan will arrive at any moment. "Daaon told him and left the room.
Prem knew Heer involved herself in that investigation for spying on behalf of the resistance movement and he had no doubt that Heer Maan would test him during that investigation for his eligibility as a resistance member.
Nevertheless, Prem did not afraid about that fact, he though the whole thing would be an interesting experience for him.
"Major, Ms. Maan has already arrived here." An employee informed him.
Prem looked around to see her, she looked beautiful in her all western business outfit.
That time Heer put forward her hand for handshake, Prem shacked her hand.
"Welcome to the team of finding Elannax, Ms. Maan." He looked directly at her eyes while saying that.
Heer also knew her mission would be challenging but she loved challenges and she also thought working with Major Prem Juneja in an investigation would surely be an interesting time for her.
