| Sushant Singh Rajput of telly serial Pavitra Rishta and Amit Sadh of Big Boss will be making their debut with this film | Aapnu Amdavad has fascinated Abhishek Kapoor of Rock On fame so much that he has decided to extensively shoot his latest film in the city and state. Kai Po Che! does not have star power or an international flavour, but it surely makes up with its Amdavadi appeal. Shot in the pols of Ahmedabad, the film features "the nitty-gritties of Ahmedabad, its culture and the people", according to Kapoor. "Amdavadis should be really proud of this film and they should own it," the director said.
The film will star Sushant Singh Rajput of telly serial Pavitra Rishta, Amit Sadh of Big Boss, Rajkumar of Ragini MMS and Ankita Purie. Like Rock On, in which Farhan Akhtar and Prachi Desai made their debut, this film will be Sushant and Amit's first feature film.
Kapoor believes in giving recognition to on-screen actors. He said, "There is a lot of talent on television and people are directly connected to such characters." Sushant has lost ten kilograms to fit into the character of Ishaan who is 24 years old.
Interestingly, Kapoor has decided to focus on Gujarat and skip Australia, which is mentioned in the book The 3 Mistakes of My Life on which the film is based. The book mentions a trip to Australia.
Kapoor said, "We have excluded the Australia part from the film as we are happy shooting in Gujarat. I am highly impressed the way things work in the state. The permission process and support from Gujarat government was prompt."
His transition from rock to folk music of Amdavad is complete with this film, where he has included two garba songs The Pols
Kapoor visited Ahmedabad for the first time two years ago with Chetan Bhagat, author of The 3 Mistakes of My Life. It was the architecture and the history of pols that lured Kapoor to select the location. He did a research on the people living there. He said, "People in pols may be deprived of the luxuries that urban Ahmedabad offers, but they are still proud of their culture. I wanted to bring the essence of Gujarati culture and hence the pols." The name Kai Po Che!
Kapoor visited the city this year on Makar Sankranti day. He said, "People's zest to compete with each other on the terrace, the loud music and the call for victory when they say kai po che moved me. That was the moment when I decided on the name for my film."
Vadnagar
At Vadnagar where they shot at Hatkeshwar temple, Sushant said, "The wife of the temple pujari prepared food for 25 days at a stretch for us. I have never got this kind of homely treatment anywhere across he country."
Kapoor was taken aback with the support of the small town people. He says, "Throughout the shoot, the locals kept their cool and always had a smile on their face. This is unlike people in North India."
After Ahmedabad, the crew will head towards Diu, Daman and Porbandar for the next phase of shooting. The director has zeroed in on a beautiful stretch of the seashore at Diu. Some part of the film will also be shot in Hyderabad. What the film is about
Kai Po Che produced by UTV Spotboy is a story of three friends who are based in the city. The plot sees a young boy in Ahmedabad named Govind (Rajkumar), dream of starting a business. To accommodate his friends Ishaan (Sushant) and Omi's (Amit) passion for cricket, they open a cricket goods and training shop. However, each has a different motive: Govind's goal is to make money; Ishaan desires to nurture Ali, a gifted batsman; Omi just wants to be with his friends. The events that transpire against the backdrop of all that occurred in the city during that time, change each of their lives in vastly different ways.
