Chapter 11
The sudden nearness of prem made heer cautious . He had a physical aura, close to menacing.
Heer stuck to the script.
"Flexibility is what Fari wants for these crucial shoots. We have to get as many models booked as we can."
"But I need to know that they can deliver. "
"Doesn't that depend on the look we are after? Or do you decide what goes on a cover?" Heer was determined to keep him in his place.
"Fashion photography depends on lots of things." Prem stopped.
Well at least he acknowledged that much, Heer thought. His ego wasn't bigger than his personality. He was just passionate about what he did and Heer understood that. You either went all the way and did it properly or not at all. That was how passion worked.
The trouble with Prem was, he had only one interest, his work. Heer should also be all about work, she knew. But this man could make her forget work. Why did they have to work together? No, wrong question! Could Heer use this opportunity to work closely with him? Have her cake and eat it too?
No, hang on! Had she forgotten that he was Hardikar's flunky? Oh he was good! A few steps closer to her. That's all he'd done and now she was going gaga.
In the cafeteria of the building, Shanu was asking Brad if he ever bothered to look up on a cloudless night and see the moon. Anu was trying to think when there had ever been a cloudless sky over London. Discarding that silly question, she wondered whether Heer would manage to get anything out of Prem. The girl was overwhelmed by him, most people were. Could Heer overwhelm him? Anu thought she could. There had to be at least one day in a year when there was a cloudless sky over London.
Heer got up, walked over to the projector and switched it on. Clicking through Prem's last shoot for a magazine. He was capable of changing the way he worked. But there was always his signature on every shot. A way of focussing slightly more on the face than the clothes. Still, designers liked it. And models loved it. But would FarOut be best served by portraits of faces or a showcasing of the clothes?
Anu was thinking the same thing in the cafeteria. Fari's design brief this time had been vague, which usually meant she was going to do something different. No one would know till the last moment. Anu was used to working this way. But Prem ?

Chapter 12

A day before the shoot was due, Fari announced they would shoot for the cover shoot. Just like that. Everyone else was already used to Fari doing things this way but Heer wasn't so sure. And Prem? He was anything but happy.

Fari took Heer, Anu and Mercedes in a room for an hour and Prem could see from the glass walls that there was a lot of hand movement and even Mercedes pretending to faint but at the end, everyone had a smile on their face.

Prem wondered what Fari was up to now. Fari told everyone to meet them in Hyde Park in two hours and left with Anu, Mercedes, Heer and Luca with three huge bags.

Prem met them and a few models at the back of the Hyde Park where Fari had taken permission to shoot and where nobody was allowed to enter. It was covered in snow and once again, Prem wondered if Fari knew what she was doing.

"Of course I know what I am doing, Mr. Juneja! This is what I was born to do! How dare you question me?" Fari said angrily before telling everyone to gather around so she can explain.

So I have decided the cover shoot would be about Celebrity-turned-designers *Prem made a face* and on the cover shoot, models would be wearing designs by my good friend, Victoria Beckham.

Now Prem was really wondering about Fari's sanity....Victoria Beckham?

Isn't this a SERIOUS fashion magazine? I thought there was a no celebrity on the cover rule! said Prem as Heer and Anu rolled their eyes.

Yes, and Vicky is not just a celebrity, she's a designer now. No more arguments, here she comes! said Fari.

Prem saw her first. Wearing a white Burberry coat and 5 inch heels, a pout on her face and bigger sunglasses covering her eyes and with a pob, came Victoria Beckham. Her legs were bare and surprisingly she looked quite warm while everyone else was covered in layers and were still shivering.

Vic darling!! How nice to have you here!

Oh Fari darling! I can't wait to do this. You know music has always been a hobby but fashion? Fashion is my passion!! I was born to do this. I want to make David proud![i] said Victoria smiling and after she was done talking, her trademark pout came back on.

[i]Oh I am sure David Beckham is proud of you![i] an awe-struck Heer said. She was always a Spice Girls fan. Mel B a.k.a Scary Spice used to live only 10 minutes away from her in Leeds.

[i]Oh yes, he is! You know so are my boys. They love watching Spice World the movie and it's good to see my boys think that mummy was a Pop Star!

Yes, Vicky, yes. I know. You say that in every single of your interview. Mummy was a pop star, very nice! Now time to start the shoot! Fari was getting serious.

Much to Prem's protest and cheers by Heer who always wished to the be the 6th Spice Girl when she was little, the shoot went on with models wearing Victoria's new range of dresses. Anu had to admit, they were quite nice dresses and at the end, even Prem had to admit the shoot went well.

But what about Vanilla now, thought Prem.

patience people. 😊
Don't you think Heer needs to get to know Prem a bit better?
She's only met him a few times before, hardly talked, and now there's this professional conflict of interest.
Head before heart.
I ask for your patience.

Chapter 13
As if by telepathy, Prem's phone rang on cue. It was Hardikar.
"I can't charge any less, those are my rates." Prem assumed Hardikar was a hard bargainer.
"Charge me double, I'd pay it. I'd like to make you an offer you can't refuse. "
"Let's hear it, but I can't commit till next year."
"That bogus shoot got me thinking, you would fit in well here. Even your fake shots were better than most people's real shots."
"Like I said, next year is a better time for me."Prem had agreed to that one off shoot for Hardikar because he thought he could wing it easily and it wasn't a conflict of interest for him. He didn't think it was necessary for him to inform FarOut that Vanilla was doing a decoy shoot at Biilingsgate. Hardikar paid well for half a day's work and Prem had done it. Now Prem was wondering whether this madness in Hyde Park was Fari's decoy shoot. What were these two rivals up to?
"You take the best pictures I've ever seen. I like what you do. I want to do a spread featuring models. The whole look, the person, not just the clothes." Hardikar was pitching what sounded like music to Prem's ears.
Hardikar contined, "I'm booking every model I can get. Starting now. Let me know when you can shoot."
Prem was a bit taken aback. EVERY model? How many? But if anyone could make it happen, Hardikar could.
"I'll let you know in 48 hours."
"Thank you."
Prem rang off and turned to find Heer looking at him.
"What did you think of Vic?" Heer was keen to know Prem's view.
"Her clothes? I don't know. But the shoot was wild. Doesn't Fari plan anything properly?"
"This is how she works. And it produces results. You saw how well the shoot went. I think we could have our November look right here." Heer didn't know what Fari's final decision about November would be. But she wanted to keep Prem guessing.
Shanu decided to walk past them, "You two, maybe we can continue talking indoors?"
Heer and Prem carried some of the equipment and walked. Shanu followed, Brad was laden down with stuff which he had to load onto the truck. Fari was yelling at everyone and no one in particular. She had waved Vic off and also posed for some paparazzi types who knew who she was and were wondering what Hardikar would think when she saw Fari Kapoor splashed all over the papers with Mrs Becks.
Prem was thinking all sorts of things while Heer talked about Vic and how great it was that fashion was becoming more eclectic and unpredictable. She wondered whether Prem was going to report to Hardikar. If he was working for her then he would have to. Hardikar would have to grin and bear it. Fari had won this round. Heer was loyal to a fault. She had decided that Fari's haphazard way of working out fashion trends was a good thing. Exciting. The plotting and planning was left to Hardikar and Prem!
How could she carry on talking to him without telling him she knew.
"You know about me doing the Billingsgate shoot for Vanilla I suppose." Prem said it matter of factly.
Heer nearly dropped the tripod she was carrying and Prem made to help.
"Billingsgate?" Heer didn't know what to say.
"Two days ago. Vanilla asked me to do a shoot for them."
"Well if Fari's ok with it then none of my business. But I'd like to know what you shot."
Prem gave her a sideways look. He couldn't decide whether Heer was joking or serious. He decided she was serious.
"I can show you some shots back at the office. And Fari doesn't know. Didn't think I needed to tell her."
"Why not?" Heer couldn't keep the anger out of her voice now.
"Because she doesn't own me. No one does."
Heer was trying to work out what to say and do next when Anu caught up with them.
"I don't know what Fari's next adventure is going to be, so I'm going to design the cover starting today with today's shoot. Everyone ok with that?"
Heer wasn't saying anything so Prem spoke, " Well whatever I managed to take needs to be looked at. Can't say if it's good enough yet."
Heer found her voice, "No I think today's shoot was a coup! Vic's collection is the star of the shoot. Fari will definitely use it."
Anu speeded up and walked ahead of them. Now they would have to wait. Would Prem pass this on to Hardikar? Would Hardikar fall for it? Oh there's no business like the fashion business!
