PART 9Meher woke up early in the morning. it was her old habit. She looked at preet sleeping on the other side of the bed peacefully. she remembered what happened last night. She laughed after such a long time. she was feeling sad but that laugh made her feel happy and relieved. it felt like a new beginning she thought but could she have a new beginning? isn't she betraying harman by accepting her new life? these were the questions lingering in meher's mind and heart.
She queitly went to take a shower and change. she wore a beautiful, yet simple, red sari with small earings and her wedding choora. she remembered her mom telling her how to dress up as a suhaagan. she had promised her mother that she will fulfill all her responsibilities and she was doing just that. this was the first time she was wearing a sari and she was struggling with it. although she learned it from her mom how to wear it, it was hard for her to handle it. but she had to she thought.
Since it was very early in the morning, she decided not to wake preet up. She went to explore the house herself and make breakfast after doing pooja.
As she was walking in the hallway, she felt someone was walking behind her. she got very scared and turned around slowly. she saw no one. when she lowered her eyes, she saw tannu's small figure. meher noticed that she was looking angry. so she smiled at her confusingly. she moved forward towards tannu to talk with her as she loved children.
Meher(smiling): app tannu ho na?
tannu(angry): ji. app meher maami?
meher(bent on the floor to tannu's level): haan.app itni subah subah akele kya ker rahi ho yahan par?
tannu(still angry): meri chorain. app batayay app kya ker rahi thin?
meher(scared of tannu's anger and questioning): main woh..main…main ghar dekh rahi thi.
tannu(suspiciously looks at meher): itni subah?
meher: haan.meri aadat hai jaldi uthnay ki.
tannu(not angry now.but had no emotions or expressions on her face): meri tarah.
meher(smiling that atleast tannu is not angry anymore): beta ghar main mandir kahan hai?
tannu: kyun?
meher: woh pooja kerni thi.
tannu: ok follow me.
Meher followed little tannu to the mandir. they both prayed and then went to the kitchen.
Back in the room, preet opened his eyes and didnt see meher beside him. he realized she must have gotten up before him. so he went to take a shower and change too.
In the kitchen, Meher looked through the cupboards and fridge to find all the ingredients she was looking for to make breakfast, still struggling with her sari. tannu was watching her every move like a hawk and that didnt go unnoticed by meher but she kept herself concentrated on the cooking. it was her first day in the house and she wanted to cook perfectly for everyone. meher made aloo ke parathay for everyone.
tannu: yeh parathay kis ke liye hai?
meher(smiling): sab ke liye
tannu: aur preet mamu ke liye?
meher(confused): un ke liye bhi hai.
tannu: itne se parathay! mamu to yeh akele kha jayenge.
meher(her eyes widened. there were quite a lot of parathas and this little girl was saying preet will eat all of them. she looked at her suspiciously thinking agar preet itne saray parathay khata to balloon ki tarah phool jata.she had noticed that he was a skinny guy)
tannu(noticing meher's confusion): yakeen nahi na mujhe par? kisi se bhi pooch lain.
preet(entering the kitchen. he heard noises from the kitchen so he got to know meher was there.): yeh sahi keh rahi hai!
meher(looking at preet in surprise): tum itne saray parathay khatay ho?
preet(embarrassed): haan. woh tumhe pata nahi hai breakfast is the most important meal of the day. isliye achay se breakfast kerta hun(smiling at himself for making such a good excuse)
meher(continued to make more parathas): ok
preet(realized that it was meher's first day in the house and she was already doing so much work): meher tum yeh sab kyun ker rahi ho? aj tumhara pehla din hai is ghar main. maa aur kuldi bana laingi nashta.
meher: nahi preet.meri aadat hai. ghar main pehla din hai to kya nashta nahi bana sakti? maa aur kuldi thakay hue hongay. main apne ghar par bhi…(stopped.she realized what she said.now this was her house. but she was missing her mother a lot. her eyes started to get teary and preet saw that) i mean maa ke ghar bhi main hi nashta banati thi subah
preet(smiling): meher yeh ghar bhi tumhara hai aur tumhari maa ka ghar bhi tumhara hai. pata nahi kaisay larki apna ghar apni har cheez apne maa baap sab kuch chor ker apne sasuraal aati hai. magar tumhe jab bhi maa ke ghar jana ho tum mujhe keh daina aur main tumhe le jaunga
meher(meher got happy listening to this and she was happy that preet called her maa maa too): thanks preet
preet(smiling): isme thanks ki kya baat hai! mera farz hai yeh.(looking at tannu.he puts his arm around tannus shoulder but tannu pushes it back and looks at him in anger) waise meher tannu ne tumhe daraya to nahi na?
meher(looks at tannu then at preet and says nervously): nahi
preet(the way meher said nahi it was clear to him that tannu did scare meher, just like she did to everyone else): woh actually tannu ko log ziada pasand nahi.yeh sab ko aise hi darati hai. hamesha akeli rehti hai aur ghussa to iski naak par hota.
tannu(she told meher to come near her. she whispered in her ear): mami, app preet mamu se durr rehna
meher(confused): matlab?
tannu(still whispering in her ear):preet mamu aur vikaas bhaiya app ke saath bhi waisa karaingay jaisa mere saath kerte hai
meher(confused and curious): kaisa?
tannu: yeh dono hamesha mera bakra banatay hai aur hamesha mujhe tung kerte hai
meher: ooo.dont worry tannu. i am on your side (meher gave a kiss to tannu on her cheek. preet was surprised to see the interaction between his wife and his bhanji. tannu never allowed anyone come close to her, letting someone kiss her was impossible. but two most important girls in his life were happy and smiling. he was glad that meher was friends with tannu.tannu was making meher smile)
preet(clearing his throat): ahem. kya baatain ho rahi hai?
meher(looking at preet); kuch nahi.hamara secret hai(looking at tannu and smiles)
preet(he smiled.): ok(he was happy that this little girl made meher smile and made meher talk.from the first day he met her, today was the first time he saw meher talking and talking with him.this was a new beginning indeed)
Meher finished her cooking and preet told the servants to set the table for breakfast. he knew if he had not told them to do it, meher would have done it herself and he didnt want her to work that much. he also noticed that she was struggling with her sari. meher was pleased with preet's care. all of them were sitting on the dining table having their breakfast.
Maa:aray wah meher tu ne to baray achay parathay banayay hai.
meher(smiling): thanks maa
kuldi(noticed that preet was quiet today and was shy maybe and she could not leave this chance to tease him): preet tujhe parathay achay nahi lagay kya?
preet(surprisingly looks up from his plate and glares at his sister): bauhat achay hai di!
kuldi: dekhaa maaa! kabhi app ke parathon ki aise tareef nahi ki aur biwi atay hi uski tareef shuru (preet and meher felt embarrassed)
preet(regaining his voice): aisi baat nahi di.maa ko pata hai mujhe unke parathay kitne pasand hai isliye mujhe unko batanay ki zaroorat nahi(smiling at his maa)
maa: chup ker badmaash
bauji(looking at meher): meher beta. aj dil khush kerdia tu ne. itne achay parathay maine zindagi main nahi khayay!(meher was very happy that she was able to please everyone but preet and kuldi looked at bauji then maa and then started laughing)
preet(laughing): bauji aj to app gayay! dekha maa bauji ko app ke parathon se ziada achay lagay yeh parathay!aj to lagta hai chand ke tukray tukray ho jayenge!(bauji looked at him and was getting up to slap him and preet was ready to run away)
maa: aray rehne dijiye na.bacha hai.
bauji(angry): bacha hai?? nawab sahab ki shaadi ho gayi hai!
maa: haan to uski biwi ke samnay usay maraingay kya?(bauji settled in his seat and preet kept launghing)
meher(she was enjoying the interaction between this small loving family. it reminded her of her family. her maa bauji and heer didi. they always had fun like this too. just like preet, meher was always the one to tease everyone. she noticed how similar they are. she then looked at bauji who was telling her to give him one more paratha): yeh lijiye bauji (placing it on his plate) maa app bhi lijiye(she gave one more to maa)
kuldi(extending her plate): meher mujhe bhi aik aur!(meher gladly placed one more on her plate)
preet(looking around.he wanted one more paratha but he was hesitating in asking meher): woh meher (meher looked at him.he smiled) mujhe bhi aik de do(she gave him too.this was his 5th paratha she counted)
tannu(looking at her mamu then her mami): maine kaha tha na mami.mamu itne saray parathay khatay hai!
The whole family laughed at the adorable child. Everyone had a nice breakfast. they were very impressed with meher. firstly, she made breakfast for everyone. secondly, her parathay were wonderful and they all loved them, specially preet. it was her first day in the family but she was able to settle in really well.
Later in the afternoon, preet decided to take meher to her maa's house to meet her parents. meher freshened up and left with him. she was really happy about meeting her parents. however, this happiness didnt last long. As she entered the house with preet behind her, she was shocked to see something.
