CHAPTER-3

Prem was walking on the sand letting the tears roll down his cheek after a long time. He knew that he can never give Sanjana the love she deserves as he had already given his heart to someone. He loved only her and will continue to do so whatever may be the circumstances. He falls down on the sand on his knees and lets out all his sorrow. He recollects the good olden times when he first saw her'.

It was the first day of his college. From childhood he had been in the same circle of friends which made it easier for him to mingle around but not here. He had no acquaintances here. He made his way to the auditorium where the new students were asked to assemble. He took his seat. Speeches were being given by the principal and heads' of the department. He was feeling bored just then he sees someone taking the seat beside him. He didn't know why but he felt a tug in his heart on seeing her. His lips automatically curved to smile on seeing, her hands which were on the arms of the chair trembling. He didn't know how but his hand went on to the top of her hand stopping it from shaking. He noticed that she was staring at him now. He removes his hand.

PREM: Hello I'm Prem.. Prem Juneja

She looks at him for a while and then gives her hand.

Girl: Heer Maan

PREM: I'm sorry, tumhara haath itna kaamp raha tha toh mein ne'

HEER: Its' ok. Jab bhi mujhe tension hoti hai aisa hi hota hai.

PREM: Tension par kis baat ki?

HEER: Principal ke speech ke baad I need to sing the prayer song.

PREM: Par mein ne toh suna hai principal ke speech ke baad hume college dikha rahe hain.

HEER: Sach.. Are you sure?

PREM: Haan. Mein ne toh yahi suna tha.

The principal speech ends and there was announcement calling out heer to sing. Prem and heer get up at the same time. Heer glares at him while prem smiles

PREM: All the best heer.

He leaves from there while heer goes on to the stage and sing.The new students were shown the college. Prem and heer meet once again.

PREM: Tum toh bohut acha gaati ho phir darr kyun rahi thi?

HEER: Mujhe bohut ajeeb lagta hai sab ke samne kade hokar gaane se' sab log tumhe goor the rehte hain..

PREM: Haha.. class mein chale.

HEER: Haan.

They enter the class to find all the seats already occupied except for a bench in the last row. They quickly go there and sit. Prem feels a hand on his shoulder and turns back.

"Hello. I'm Neev Shergill and this is my long time enemy Prachi ..Prem sees a girl glaring at Neev. Tumhara naam kya hai? Kahaan se aaye ho? Pointing to heer he says lagta hai meri tarah tumhari bhi ek enemy hai jo humesha tumhara saath hi rehthi hai? Kya baat hai tum kuch bol nahin rahe ho?"

PRACHI: Tum kuch bolne ka mauka doge tab bolega na bichara. Hello I'm prachi. Tum dono iski baat seriously matlo yeh na bachpan se hi thoda pagaal hai aur jaise bada ho rah hai pagalpaan bad rahi hai.

PREM: Hello neev and prachi I'm prem and she is heer,

PRACHI: Prem and heer nice names. Heer tumhi wahi hona jisne aaj stage pe gaaya tha, I must say tum bohut acha gaati ho.

NEEV: Nahin prachi yeh woh nahin hai.. uski booth hai..

PRACHI: Neeeeeeeeev

NEEV: Abhi kuch der pehle hi toh stage pe dekha tha usse itni jaldi bhool gayi? Dikh nahin raha yeh wahi hai.

PRACHI: Neev please thodi der chup raho.

HEER: Thank you so much prachi.

Just then the lecturer comes in. The lectures went one after the other so they didn't get much time to talk. It was lunch time. Prachi and neev stand up to leave.

PRACHI: Prem, heer tum bhi chalo na humare saath..

They agree and all four of them go to the canteen.

NEEV: Toh prem tumhare baare mein batao kuch..

PREM: Mein ne apni schooling Mumbai mein hi complete ki hai and now I'm here in Shimla to complete my graduation. Filaal toh mein ek hotel mein tehra hoon, but I need to find a room soon to shift.

NEEV: Room kyun? Tumhe toh ghar miljaayega

PREM: Kaise?

NEEV: Tum ab Neev ke dost ho toh hotel mein kaise reh sakte ho? Mera ek chota sa ghar hai yahaan tum wahaan shift kar sakte ho.

PREM: Par mein aise kaise aa sakta hoon?

NEEV: Agar tum aaoge na toh mujhe par bohut bada aisaan hoga, kum se kum mujhe iss pagal ko 24 gaante jelna nahin padega.

PRACHI: Haan prem tum neev ke yahaan shift karlo kum se kum mujhe iska Bandar jaisa shakal 24 gaante dekhne ko nahin milega'

HEER: Tum dono saath mein rehthe ho.

PRACHI: Actually heer who kya hain na hum dono ke papa bohut ache dost hai. isliye fortunately ya unfortunately mujhe iss Bandar se dosti karni padi. Aaj tak hum dono ne sab kuch ek saath hi kiya hai.. mujhe toh interest hi nahin tha yahaan join hone ka par iske wajah se hona pada'

NEEV: Baaki hi kahaani mein bataoun.. Isse na bohut si cheezon se allergy hai' isliye hostel mein reh sakte hain. Papa aur uncle ne ek ghar liya aur ek care taker appoint karke hume yahaan bhej diya.

HEER: Ohh cool' par tum dono itna ladte kyun ho?

NEEV: Kya karein aadat hogayi hai' yeh ladaayi jagde ki wajah se hi toh aaj tak hum saath rahe hain.. ab tum batao..

HEER: Mein bachpan se yaheen hoon.. I stay with my mom and dad.

PRACHI: Tumhari ek hobby toh hum pata chalgaya aur kya kya karti ho?

HEER: Well aur kuch khaas nahin bas wahi ek hai'

NEEV: Toh tum dono pehle se dost nahin the?

HEER: Nahin hum bas yahaan aake mile the..

NEEV: Oh ok.

HEER: Tum sab se milke mujhe bohut acha laga' mujhe aaj ghar jaldi jaana hai. Bye guys kal milte hain.

Heer leaves from there waving them goodbye. Prem was happy to find new friends. In short time he found a great friend in Neev and as per his request he decides to shift to Neev's house. Prem enjoyed his college days a lot. While at home he enjoyed the fights between Neev and Prachi but hated it when he was made a referee between them and in college he used to tell everything to heer and heer would share her things with him. Both of them never hid anything from each other. When heer comes to know about something exciting she wouldn't rest until she told prem. The four of them got along so well. Sometimes even heer used to come and stay at their place. The four of them had gala time. The girls and boys used to form up teams and pulled each others' legs.

For weekends heer invited them to her house. Her parents liked prem a lot especially her mother. He used to tease her about that. Whenever he come her mother, teji made all his favorites which used to irritate the three of them. He used to enjoy all these moments. When there were holidays prem, neev and prachi used to stay for 5 days at home and then come back saying they had projects and all and had fun time. Time flew. They were in the final year now. Slowly Neev and Prachi started to realize that they were more than best friends or enemies as they consider themselves. They finally confess their feelings to each other with the help of prem and heer. Prem feel happy for both of them and at the same time start realizing the importance of Heer in his life. By the time he decides to confess his feelings to her the day of farewell arrives.

Prem decides to tell her everything after the farewell party they had. The party was fun enjoying the last day of togetherness with all the friends. Prem finds heer standing in a corner. He was about to talk to her when their friends come serving cool drinks dragging them to join others. Prem curses his luck.

The next morning he was in deep sleep when his phone starts ringing aloud continuously. He gets irritated and picks it up without seeing who it is. By the time calls ends he was wide awake. He freshens up quickly, packs all his things and leave from there without even informing Neev.

He comes back to Mumbai. He enters his home to see everyone grieving over his grandmother's body. He goes and hugs lalit. He gets busy handling business as lalit goes into depression due to his mother's sad demise. After everything settles down he confesses his feeling towards heer to his dear brother preet. Preet suggests him to go back and get her.

Prem goes to Shimla in high spirits. All his dreams shatters like piece of glass the moment he sees heer sitting on the mandap with Rajveer, her dad's best friends' son. He has met Rajveer once in a party at heer's place. Slowly his steps start retracing backwards. He bumps into Neev.

NEEV: Prem tu aagaya? Humne tumhe contact karne ki kitni koshish ki' Chalo bohut sahi waqt pe aaya hai. Chalo Heer ko congratulate karte hain.

Neev drags him to the mandap. Heer gets a shock to see Prem all of a sudden,

Kaise bataayein kyun tujhko chahe yaara bataa na paaye
Baatein dilo ki dekho jo baagi aankhein tujhe samjhaye

Tu jaane na .. tu jaane na .. tu jaane na .. tu jaane na

Prem tries to hide his tears. He congratulates Rajveer and then turns to Heer, but was at loss of words. Neither of them was able to speak to say anything. They keep staring at each other while Neev was talking to Rajveer. The pandit asks the dulha dulhaan to come for pheras.

Milke bhi hum na mile Tum se na jaane kyun meelon ke hai faasle

Tum se na jaane kyun anjaane hai silsale
Tum se na jaane kyun sapne hai

Palkon tale tum se na jaane kyun

Rajveer and Heer walk to take the pheras. Heer turns to see Prem. He sees her going away with Rajveer and silently makes his way out.

Kaise bataayein kyun tujhko chahe yaara bataa na paaye
Baatein dilo ki dekho jo baagi aankhein tujhe samjhaye
Tu jaane na .. tu jaane na .. tu jaane na .. tu jaane na

Tears start flowing out of his eyes. He was walking on the path of his college remembering the old memories.

Aaa ..
Nigahon mein dekho meri jo hai bas gaya
Woh hai milta tumse hubahu

He sees the auditorium where he met her for the first time. The images of them start to float in front of his eyes'

Ooo jaane teri aankhein thi ya baatein ki waja
Huea tum jo dil ki aarzoo

He walks around the hallway and canteen remembering the old times when they used to sit and share every waking thought of each other,

Tum paas ho ke bhi Tum aas ho ke bhi
Ehsaas ho ke bhi Apne nahi aise hain
Humko gile tumse na jaane kyun

He goes back to his car and starts driving back to his home. He had no strength left to wipe away his tears' there was no stop to them.

Meelon ke hain faasle Tum se na jaane kyun
Tu jaane na .. tu jaane na .. tu jaane na .. tu jaane na
Ooo jaane na jaane na jaane na .. aaa tu jaane na ..

He goes straight to his room. He falls on the bed exhausted. Gayatri comes into his room.

GAYATRI: Prem tu itni jaldi aagaya? Chal jaldi se tayar ho jaa aaj office nahin jaana hai kya?

Prem covered himself with the blanket so that she cannot see him.

GAYATRI: Acha teek hai tak gaya hoga na so jaa. Mein papa se kehdoongi,

Prem still not removing the blanket of him replies.

"Nahin maa mein kuch der mein tayar hoke aata hoon. Preet kahaan hai?"

GAYATRI: Preet usse achanak se phone aaya aur who wapas chala gaya, usne ek letter diya hai tujhe dene ke liye.. mein yahaan table pe rakh deti hoon.

Gayatri leaves. Prem gets up and reads the letter

Dear PB,

I'm sorry achanak se mujhe jaana pad raha hai. Mein aap ke liye bohut kush hoon.

Mujhe batane ki jaroorat nahin mujhe yakeen hai aap ko bhabhi mil hi gayi hogi. Unko meri taraf se hii kehdena

Preet

Prem leaves bad. He decides not to tell preet but then he gets a call.

PREET: Bhai apne letter toh pad hi liya hoga, toh bataye kaisi he bhabhi.

PREM: Preet mein usse keh nahin paaya

He cuts the phone. He gets ready and leaves for office. He tries to concentrate on his files but wasn't able to. He recollects all the old memories.

Khayalon mein lakhon baatein yun tu keh gaya
Bola kuch na tere samne

He remembers the whole sequence of events which followed after he confessed preet till seeing her with Rajveer.

Ooo Huea na be-gaane bhi tum hoke haar ke
Dekho tum na mere hi bane

He decides to hide it from Preet that she's married. He was worried that Preet would feel bad for him and he didn't want to see his brother feel sorry for him.

Afsos hota hai dil bhi yeh rota hai
Sapne sanjota hai Pagla hua soche yeh
Hum the mile tumse na jaane kyun

Sanjana comes in with the file they were working on, she sees him dejected, his eyes swollen,

SANJANA: Prem kya hua hai? Mein ne aaj se pehle tumhe aisa kabhi nahin dekha please prem batao kya hua hai???

Prem decides to share everything with her, his only friend now. He tells her everything. From that day it was only her, with whom he talked and laughed,

Back to present, he wipes his tears and decides to be strong. He has taken his decision for his parents and would definitely fulfill him.

Tu jaane na .. tu jaane na .. tu jaane na .. tu jaane na

He makes his way back to home dejected. He directly goes into his room and falls on his bed. Without his knowledge he falls asleep like it had been happening for all these years.
