Called SP Mumbai again today. Since I had already given them a caustic piece of my mind yesterday (albeit very politely), decided to change tack a little bit today and be friendly (my own 2 bit worth of strategic planning like SP'.catch more flies with honey than vinegar and all that!) so asked for the same girl I spoke to yesterday charmaine (?) and told her that I had called yesterday and spoken to her regarding how its impossible for working people to watch KDM at the new timings, whether she had conveyed my message and whether there was any feedback from the channel about this. She said we have conveyed your problems and requested that something be done and they are trying but as of now nothing has been resolved! I again asked her whether she also didn't think that the timings were totally unreasonable! She agreed with me and said that the current timings were unreasonable esp for working people. She said atleast college students can somewhat adjust but that it was impossible for working people. That she understood my problem. (hey, she actually said more than the usual I will pass on the message!....being nice works better!). I told her that I was never ever watching SP before, started watching just because of this show and have now stopped watching it again! I said I am sincerely and genuinely trying to tell how upset people are and this is building a bad image for your channel. If you don't give us even one reasonable time, then to the viewers this doesn't come across as strategic planning or programming but as sheer stubbornness by the channel, as if the channel doesn't care and come what may they shall not relent and bend and to hell with what the viewers think! I said it is upto you to chose to take this stand but then viewers will take the stand that we shall also not bend and we will not watch SP!! that it takes only one button on the remote to do this! And I know that many people already feel that way and that appearing intractable, unreasonable and indifferent to the sentiments of viewers is not the image that any channel should want to cultivate! I said I know it is not upto you to make the decision and it is not in your hands or your fault, which is why I am not screaming and shouting. I said I also know that you must be having many irate callers who must be screaming and shouting and being rude to you and you have to listen even though it is not your fault because it is your job to answer these calls but I said you can't blame them because they are also upset at the way SP is treating them! which is why I am requesting you to please seriously think about what I am telling you and talk to the right people about this and impress upon them that some action needs to be taken !!! I said I know that every channel has daytime programming but these are shows which are aired in the daytime right from the start and have an audience which watch daytime TV. But KDM is a show which has aired at night for over a year and has already got an audience which watches TV in the night and for most of this audience it is not possible to watch this show in the day! That this is not the same as daytime shows cos this not been a daytime show for more than a year which is a long time. After all this time, now you suddenly want us to not watch the show at all and new people who have never watched to start watching it at this point in the story? How is that possible? That is totally unfair, don't you think? I said I made so many calls to you in middle of a working day from out of Mumbai, that should tell you something about what people are feeling. She promised to do the best she could but she said as of now it will continue like this, but she will definitely pass on what our problem is (and this time i got the feeling that atleast that much will be done).
I don't know whether any of this will help at all, but today she seemed more willing to listen since I was talking nicely!
PS: phew!!! my SP convo posts are becoming almost as long as E's bt lt!!!!!!!
