10 things... 'bout this show

yup, i think it's about time that i did this, i think.

y'know? last week i realised i've finished one full year of writing stuff 'bout this show. stuff that made an impression when i watched an episode that i just had to talk 'bout with people. and when i went back and checked on the first big things, little things that i'd ever written, i found what i wrote was unbiased, simple, focussed and - most importantly! - short! 😆

and why wouldn't they be? when i first started, there were only big things, little things. no prem things. 😆 no heer things. no prem-heer things. no strong beliefs. no lost hearts. it was a much simpler world.

now? there are a lot more ... ''things''. and through it all, one estee-thing came through shamefully and hopelessly: that i am hooked -- hopelessly and mindlessly 🤔 -- to prem-heer-are-one. and i'm hopelessly and mindlessly loyal to this show. 🤔 today, the bt,lts are ... seem more full of reasons justifying why i watch the show, rather than what i saw, what i thought was important, and what i thought was... silly. 😆 *sigh* i dunno. but i thought that i should pay penance ... for all this darned loyalty.

and that for once, i should think 'bout whether it is still worth being loyal to this show, whehter it is still worthy of a watch day-after-day. i dunno if it'll make sense to anyone. but - like the bt,lts - this is something i figure i have to write. oh, and bother all of you with, of course! 😆

so: 10 things i like about this show; 10 things i dislike 'bout this show follows.. 😊

10 things i like 'bout this show

1. i like the idea of the love in prem-heer-are-one. it is amazing that they tried such a story even though it's really absurd in today's world. and it's absurd how much i believe it in today's world.

2. i truly like the main characters in the show. i like pretty much all of them actually. 😆 no, seriously. 😆 i like the junejas. and the reason that i like them all is that they are real(-ish 😆) for most part. they have their good points, and their bad. their normalcies and their quirks. just like normal people do, just like normal people are. (i said, no, for most part??! 😆 -- in fact, even prem and heer would be boring and normal if not for their absurdly believeably amazing love.)

well, all but vitchface veera. who is boringly written. who is just purely petty and despicable.

3. i actually like the continuity that they have for the main characters -- well, okay, for most part. 😆 i like that they haven't forgotten that prem had been gone for a long while - presumed dead. i like that gayatri-mom knows that she was out of the picture for all that long while. i like how the meher-heer and heer-preet relationship have it's own standing even if both are slight and on the side of the show. there are many things that don't get forgotten -- and i like that.

4. i like how the characters have grown in this show. i like how none of them have been untouched by all the dramatic events that they've gone through. the only one character that has been despicable has been vitchface (from the very start) and she is the one that has been totally untouched by everything thas has happened too! 🤢

5. i like the relationship between the brothers. and how it was tested and tried and came back on track. i like how it was strong to start with. i like how it has become even stronger now.

6. i like how they have always taken us towards the darkest feelings and then swooped us out towards the light! and how it had always been a pleasant surprise when the shift from misery to happiness happened.

it has been phantastical. however, this comes along with a caveat -- #3 in the ''10 things i dislike 'bout the show'' list below.

7. i really like the photography in this show. i like the production quality. yes, yes, even the stuff beyond the beauty of prem and heer. 🤣

i particularly like overhead shots -- makes for a really interesting angle on prem-hee... er. the show. i like how they manage to do superb outdoor shoots - and super indoor shots also. a special mention here is: photography on prem-heer in blue-light. man! i soooo... um ... like that. 😃special mention #2: the photography and production of the rajasthan segment pushed this show's production quality ten times above the photography and production quality of any other show i've had a chance to see. it was superb!

and special mention #3: i *fiercely* love how they have totally dumped those horrid zoooooom-in,zoooooom-out they used to have -- thank you soooo much! 🤗

8. i like the simplicity of the appearance of the people on this show. 'specially the women - they are totally believeable in how they appear.

9. i like how the editing in this show has become much better than when they started. man! they used to have terrible editing then.

10. and lastly, but not leastly? i like phhandoooooohs. a special thing that this show has that no other show ever had.... 😆

10 things i dislike 'bout this show

1. in this amazingly lovely love story, i dislike that the forces of darkness and evil get to control the story for much longer than the forces of light and good.

2. i dislike the very ... uh ... rigid understanding of the word ''drama'' that the scriptwriters and creative team have. they seem to define drama as swinging between extremes. and by extremes, they mean hysterical extremes. imho, it's a weak script ploy to get hysterical extremes... extremes is much more convincing when it isn't hysterical. just mho.🤔

3. i said i liked how the show has taken us to dark depths and then swoops us upto the light, no? but i am beginning to strongly dislike that they keep using prem-heer to push us up and down on this roller coaster of emotions.

the love that prem-heer have for each other absolute and untouchable. but i dislike how they use the threat of that love becoming shaky and besmirched to make our minds and heart swing around like foucault's pendulum in paris. how can they keep expecting us to believe prem-heer-are-one can break just so that they can finish telling us their story of the junejas and how the maan's made them a better family? if they keep doing this, that's one roller-coaster that's going to derail sooner rather than later!

4. i do not like that they appear to be using some themes over and again. especially when it means drastic distortions of well-set characters.

for instance, prem-heer-are-one was once tested by pitching prem-heer against lalit-juneja. now they testing prem-heer-are-one by pitching prem-heer against gayatri-juneja? for instance, they had heer pretend so that she could get happiness for prem. then they had prem pretend so that he would get a better life for heer+the-junejas. trouble 'cause it means that to prevent a sense of deja-vu, they have to make the drama even more hysterical. bad move. once again, just mho.

5. i dislike how they pace the show. i 'specially dislike it when they pack episodes with flashbacks to slow the story down. or when they pack an episode with the bad guys saying the same things over and over again to make bad guy conversations longer.

6. i sooo dislike that, in one year and two.five months of shows, heer has smiled - properly smiled - in 'round five episodes.

7. i dislike the totally unreal settings of the rooms in the house. 😆 seems trivial no? but i saw a show called ''meri awaaz ko mil gayee roshni'' where every single thing about the settings was perfectly real. in this show? the settings are totally absurd, imho. 😛

8. i dislike when they do floor level shots. in a show that has otherwise extremely competent photography, that ... disturbs.

9. i dislike the hysterical background themes that they tend to use in bad-guy conversations. or when the bad guys get one over the good guys situations. why can't these shows just go silent if they can't get sensible background scores?? and if there's one place where the production quality of this show falls flat on it's face again-and-again, it's in the sound editing!!! omg! i mean! imagine dubbing hc's voice and ag's voice. especially when the rest of the production -- photography, location, acting -- was brilliant in the rajaasthan segment, the sound editing just crashed and burnt itself to death when they dubbed ag's voice during that supremely important and lovely heer-calling-prem-on-the-sand-dunes segment! argh! the pain of that moment! i'm scarred for life! 😆

10. and lastly, but not leastly? i ryaaallly dislike post-apparent-death prem wearing those silly t-shirts under his shirts. those things are just disastrous for the smooth flow of the shirt-cloth over those nice arms. or that nice ... um .. chest. 🤣 er... just mho, of course... 🤣
