Yes, yes, I have another Meet one-shot songfic. Oh don't give me that look, I know you like it!! 😛😆 But here's the weird thing, I found that writing Premeer stuff doesn't quite give me the same amount of happiness that writing Meet stuff does. So to make up for the absence of a full-blown Meet FF (considering the one I'm *writing* now is Premeer stuff), I write Meet one-shots! This one's a little bit longer than usual, and goes out to Tannu, who somehow manages to worm her way into all my stories! 😆 The little cutie...
Kahin Na Laage
Meher brushed her damp hair, untangling the knots with frustration. She hated the getting-ready part of the morning, and would gladly have fast-forwarded those scenes in her movie. As it was, she usually blanked out those scenes, and there would be times in the middle of the day when she would stop and wonder when she had put on her sindhoor.
"Nahin, maine kahaa ki hum Dhoom 3 dekhne jaayenge."
Meher paused, raising an eyebrow. She looked at her sleeping husband's reflection in her mirror.
Preet let out a little laugh, and Meher turned to watch him, highly amused. "Meher, chalo na," he mumbled. He rolled over to his side, hiding his face in the pillow. He snored.
Meher blushed as she turned back to the mirror, biting back a smile. Preet dreamt about her?
Kissa tera, teri daastaan
Chehra tera khud kare baiyaan
Kisi se pyaar tujhe ho gaya
Tu maan ja, haan maan ja
A smile played on Meher's face as she recalled Preet's sleep-talkings. How had she never noticed before that Preet talked in his sleep? As she kneaded the atta, she could faintly hear Kul Di complaining to Heer Di about something Kiran had done.
"Meher, tumhe kya lagta hai, kya mujhe usse maaf kar dena chahiye?" Kulraaj asked, turning to Meher.
"Hmm?" Meher looked up from the atta absently.
"Kya mujhe Kiran ko maaf karna chahiye?" Kulraaj repeated.
"Um'unhone kya kiya?" Meher asked, frowning.
"Kahaan khoyi ho, Meher?" There was a teasing note in Heer's voice. "Preet ke bare mein soch rahi thi kya?"
Meher blushed. "Nahin, toh."
"Then you do realize you need more water for the atta, right?" Heer commented.
Meher looked down at her atta. Her face turned a brighter shade of red.
"Chalo, main atta banati hoon," Kulraaj replied, bumping Meher away.
Meher stood on the side, feeling rather embarrassed. She pushed a lock of hair back, forgetting that her hands were floury and thus getting the fine white powder on her hair.
Kahin na laage mann
Kya hai yeh sunaapan?
Mujhe tum bata do
Koi toh wajah do
Har ghadi ab khayalon mein
Keh raha hai koi
Har ghadi meri khwabon mein
Aa raha hai koi
Meher rummaged around her room, wondering where she'd put her recipe book. She knew she'd left it in her room, but she couldn't seem to find it. She was dying to try out a recipe she had seen on TV, but it was in her recipe book, and that was'somewhere in the room.
She sighed, hands on her hips as she looked around.
Preet came out of the bathroom, running his hands through his wet hair. He stopped, surprised that Meher was still in the room.
"Meher? Tum yahaan kya har rahi ho?"
Meher jumped, startled. She turned to look at Preet. How could she have forgotten that it was a Saturday and Preet wasn't going to work?
"Preet, tumne mujhe dara diya. Do you know where my recipe book is?"
"The blue notebook with papers sticking out of the pages?"
"It's not blue, it's black. Have you seen it?"
Preet shook his head. "No, but I can help you look for it."
She smiled in appreciation, resuming her search.
Preet started to do the same, but decided to go into the bathroom and put on a pair of pants first.
Is this love?
Maine na jaana
Is this love?
Tu hi batana
Preet held their mattress up as Meher peeked into the gap, trying to see if her recipe book was there.
"I don't see anything," she muttered.
"Don't worry, take your time. My arms aren't breaking," Preet answered through gritted teeth.
Meher poked an arm into the gap, blindly groping around. Her face lit up as she felt something thick and rectangular. She managed to close her hand around it, and she pulled it out triumphantly.
"Mil gaya!" she announced, grinning.
Preet set the mattress down in relief. "Finally!"
He and Meher looked at each other.
"Thanks, Preet," she smiled.
Preet was unable to resist smiling back at her. "And Meher, you have something in your hair."
Meher frowned and reached up, touching the wrong side of her hair. "Did I get it?"
Preet smiled, shaking his head. He reached out and dusted the flour out of her hair. "How did you get flour in your hair?"
Meher's eyes widened, and she blushed, remembering that she had been so lost thinking about Preet that Kulraaj Di had asked her to leave. She winced, burying her face in her hands.
"Don't ask."
Preet laughed and hugged her. She was so adorable.
Tu ne chuna ishq ka raasta
Humsafar iss safar mein dhoondta hai tu
Haan baat yeh maan bhi le zara
Tut kar ab kisi ko chahta hai tu
Preet whistled, hands in his pockets as he headed off to the kitchen, hoping to find a midday snack. Somehow breakfast never seemed to fully satisfy his stomach; it grumbled merely an hour after breakfast.
"Toh, bataao, beta, answer kya hai?"
Preet paused. Was that Meher he heard? He backtracked and peeked into the room he had just passed.
Tannu chewed the top of her pencil thoughtfully. Meher pulled it out, and Tannu looked at her, making a face. Meher mimicked her, sending Tannu into peals of laughter. (Preet smiled.)
"Chalo, five plus five kya hai?"
Tannu shook her head. "Maami, mujhe pata nahin," she whined. "Mujhe Bhaiya ke saath khelna hai!"
Meher smiled, stroking Tannu's hair. She picked up another pencil and drew something on the empty piece of paper in front of them.
"Yeh dekho: one group has five apples, and the other group has five apples. So total mein kitne apples hain?" she guided Tannu.
Tannu counted the apples. "Ten!" she said happily.
Meher grinned. "Shaabash!"
Preet sighed softly. Meher was great with kids. Humari bachchi ka naam Pratibha hogi, Preet thought, a smile playing on his lips.
He frowned. Where did that come from?
Raat din meri neendon mein
Jag raha hai koi
Raat din meri aankhon mein
Aa raha hai koi
Is this love?
Maine na jaana
Is this love?
Tu hi batana
Meher loved teaching Tannu. Of course, Kulraaj had reminded her that she had promised to make lunch, so she headed off to the kitchen, humming Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. She wrinkled her nose. Spending time with her little niece had the added side effect of getting nursery rhymes stuck in her head.
She frowned at the floor, trying to think of another song to replace Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Of course, that had the added side effect of walking into a pillar.
She looked up, annoyed, only to find herself looking up at her husband. She instantly turned twenty shades of red.
Preet grinned. "Kahaan kho gayi thi, jaan?" he teased.
"Kahin nahin, I was just wondering why Twinkle Twinkle Little Star sounds so much like the alphabet song," she replied matter-of-factly. "And I was also wondering why I have that song stuck in my head."
Preet's grin turned cheeky, and Meher started to feel a little nervous.
"What about this song?" he whispered softly, moving closer to her.
Tu ne tera dil kisi ko diya
Baat yeh sach hai agar tu maan le isse
Dil ka sukoon tu ne hi kho diya
Ab haqeekath hai yeh tu jaan le isse
Meher had a giddy smile on her face as she reached the kitchen. Her heart was still racing from the encounter with Preet in the hallway earlier on. She was surprised no one had seen them, but at the same time, who was she to care?
She shook her head. She had to focus on lunch. She opened her recipe book to the correct page, putting the salt shaker there as a paperweight, and proceeded to pull out the ingredients she needed. Her mind drifted back to Preet, and she found herself giggling like an infatuated schoolgirl.
"Stop it, Meher," she chided herself. "Focus."
She looked at the recipe book. 2 cups, finely chopped carrots, 1 cup, tomato puree'Preet called me 'jaan'. Again the giddy smile.
Aaj kal meri chaaon mein
Dhal rahaa hai koi
Aaj kal meri saanson mein
Chal rahaa hai koi
Is this love?
Maine na jaana
Is this love?
Tu hi batana
Kulraaj tasted Meher's subzi. She frowned slowly. This tasted funny. She looked up at Meher. "Did you put sugar instead of salt?"
Meher looked at her quizzically. "What?"
Kulraaj lifted up her spoon. "Try karlo."
Meher hesitatingly tried her subzi. Oh, dear'oh, dear, oh, dear, oh, dear' She gave her family an apologetic look. "I'm sorry!" she said, fighting back tears. This had not gone well. At all.
Kulraaj smiled. "Koi baat nahin, hum bahaar se khana order kar lenge."
As the rest of the family decided on what to order, Meher buried her face in her hands again, wondering why Preet had to flirt with her just before she made lunch.
"Kya baat hai? What were you thinking of as you made lunch?" asked a smooth voice in her right ear.
She took her face out of her hands and glared at Preet. "Shut up,"she hissed. "This is all your fault!"
Preet grinned. "Then my work here is done."
Meher smacked his arm, and Preet laughed.

Admit it, you love reading fluffy one-shots! (Though I still feel nothing quite beats Thinking of You, but after reading Radz's Yeh Vaada Raha, I think I prefer reading fluffs, thankyouverymuch!) Even more so when Meet have cute scenes! Speaking of which, they'd better have a real good Meet scene today! One week of no Meet scenes is one week too long! *pouts*
Love,
Bhav (:
