Hi everyone! For those who have read my other ff "Mannat" already know me, but for those who don't, I'm Deepika. So in January I had said I was going to start a new ff soon, but soon for me was about 3 months later. I changed the story a billion times, until I finally got it right. Now I have something solid, which I hope you all like. The title is an inspiration from the movie "Kabakkht Ishq". I'm posting the prologue first and will update based on the feedback I get.
Kambakht Ishq
Prologue
It was a clear, starry night in Manhattan with the moon gracing the sky with its beauty as if mocking the one person on earth that could match its magnificence. Heer made her out of the Sheraton Hotel and onto 7th Avenue. She quickly wrapped her shawl around herself as she made her way down the street, trying to find a cab. She was finally able to stop one and quickly headed towards it, when she felt someone grab her from her shoulder. Heer let out a sigh of disappointment before she turned around to face her bodyguard, Akshay (Akki).
"Sahej and Ashlesha are waiting for you in your limo. Let's go before the media people get here" said Akki as he pulled her to her limo, while she pouted. She carefully sat down between Sahej and Ashlesha, making sure not to ruin her black lehnga.
"You were going to take a cab? Are you out of your mind!? If anything happened to you, Kanwal Uncle would have killed us" said Ashlesha as Heer rolled her eyes at her best-friend's comment, while replying "No, Papa loves you both way too much to ever kill you".
"Yeah, he would have killed you instead" Sahej said to Heer as she replied "Can you please stop bothering me. I get the point already. I'm not supposed to go out by myself because something might happen to me, but doesn't it anyways?"
"Heer, you would have swarmed by the media if you took the cab and who knows, the driver could have been a psychopath" Ashlesha said.
"I'm trained in martial arts and gatka…I think I can take care of myself" said Heer as she called up Akki, who was sitting up front with her limo driver, "Akki, tell the driver to take us to Starbucks".
"You want Starbucks now? It hasn't even been 20 minutes since you're engagement broke" said Sahej.
"And what am I supposed to do…sit and mourn over it? I never liked Sameer in the first place. I was only getting married to him because Papa wanted me too. How is it my fault that he's already married and was marrying me just to gain my property & assets? Anyways, I think the engagement breaking was my favorite part of tonight's party. That filthy dog had that punch coming from me. I say good riddance to bad rubbish."
"She's right, even I enjoyed watching it" said Ashlesha.
"So when are you planning to tell your family back in Punjab" asked Sahej.
"That blabber mouth up front probably told them already" said Heer as Akki yelled from the front of the limo "I heard that"
"I know you did" Heer shouted back as she went to open the limo's moon roof, "I need time to digest everything that happened. If I talk to anyone from back home, they'll just get miserable and I can't see them like that. Until I figure out how I'm going to face them, I'm just going to let Akki doing the talking for me. Oh and by the way, I'm not going back home. I'm going to stay here and join the Manhattan branch of Sahej's Magazine"
"And who says I'm going to hire you?" asked Sahej.
"I'm educated, I'm experienced, I'm talented, I'm famous, and I'm your best-friend…so you are going to hire me. Though I don't think you need to re-hire me, you just need to get my position transferred here" Heer said confidently.
"Fine, but I don't understand why you want to work as a journalist. Your dad owns a multi-billion dollar company and here you're working as a mere journalist" said Sahej.
"No job is too small or too big for anyone. It's a matter of passion and ambition. Plus, I love writing. If I wasn't a journalist, then I would have definitely done something exciting with action and fighting, but you know how my dad is. He said learn self-defense to use it in emergencies, not to make a career out of it" she replied as the limo pulled in front of the Starbucks Coffee Shop. "Akki, I'll go order the coffees. I know what they want" she said as she got out.
"Heer, you're wearing a lehnga!" said Ashlesha.
"No where does it say I can't wear one in Starbucks and anyways, I really don't care what they think of me" she replied as she shut the limo door and headed towards the shop. However, just as she walked inside, she saw Akki walking in behind her.
"I'm not going to let you roam around alone in public" he said as Heer sighed sadly, wishing she was treated like a normal person and not some celebrity.
After getting their order, Heer and Akki headed out with the Frappiccino's. As they headed towards the exist, Heer ran into someone causing her to slip on the foot of her lehgna while her frappiccino's flew into the air as she started fall. As an instinct, she shut her eyes as she braced herself for the fall, but it never came. She felt someone slip their arm around her waist and support her from falling. She slowly opened her eyes to a pair of deep light brown eyes staring into hers as the unknown man helped her up. She studied him carefully as she noticed he was dressed in professional business attire, had on a stern expression, was well built, and was a in his mid-20s as well as he was quite good looking. Their trance was broken when Akki rushed over with napkins.
"Heer, what are you doing? You have coffee spilled all over you" said Akki as he handed her a wad of napkins. Heer looked down at the front of her lengha to find it smeared with the Double Chocolate Chip Frappiccino she had ordered.
The man stood there watching her look at her outfit with shock, then disbelief, then disappointment, and finally anger before she threw the napkins at him.
"Can't you watch where you going!?!" she shouted, "Do you have buttons for your eyes? God gave you eyes to use them, not to close them and run into people"
"Excus…" the man started to say, but Heer cut him off "Shut up! You ruined my outfit and my frappiccino!"
"But I'm…" he started to say again, but Heer cut him off once more "Shut up! My night was going great for me…I mean I broke my engagement, I broke Sameer's nose and now you had to ruin everything!"
"BE QUIET!" he shouted in anger, "Just because I'm not saying anything, doesn't mean you can go off and say whatever comes to your mind. I was going to say sorry to you, but now I'm glad I ran into you. I wish the frappiccino landed on your head instead of spilling on your lengha. Maybe then you would cool down a bit, with that frozen frappiccino on your head, you brat!"
"Shut up, you illiterate filthy dog! Who are you to call me a brat! HOW DARE YOU CALL ME A BRAT YOU DONKEY! I'll sue you!" said Heer as Akki started pulling her away from the man.
"Sue me for what? For telling you the truth! You are a brat!" he shouted at her, while she shouted back "you dog!" as Akki dragged her out of the shop and to the limo, leaving the man in anger.
The man turned back towards the counter, to find everyone staring at him.
"Shows over, you can get back to your work" he said firmly to everyone as his younger brother walked in looking confused.
"Yo Prem Bhaiya, I heard some shouting coming from in here. What happened?" Preet asked.
"Nothing, just some rich fathers rude daughter lost her temper" Prem said as he started to order their coffee, while thinking "stupid brat". At the same time, Akki led a fuming Heer back to limo who muttered to herself "filthy dog"
