On one hand he wanted to help her, but he couldn't help but feel that things would go terribly wrong in the long run and he would be the one facing the most hurt. Meera's words about following your heart echoed in his ears as he picked up the phone and dialled the number. 'You can do it Prem, after all you'll only be studying and that is the thing you love the most,' he thought to himself. After his little pep talk he took in a big deep breath and pressed the green button, holding the phone to his ear.
Heer sat in front of a book, trying her hardest to comprehend what was written in front of her, yet the words seemed to enter one side of her brain and come out the other. She almost felt like ripping the book into thousands of tiny little pieces, wondering which insane person had come up with the concept of education. The sound of her phone ringing filled her room and reached across to grab it from her bedside table. 'Hello' she answered, as she flung the book across one side of her bedroom to the other in frustration.
It surprised her, to say the least, to hear the timid voice on the other end. 'Er...Ummm...Hi. It's me'Prem' he hesitated. It was that deep velvety voice again, having the same strange effect on her. Heer sat up, holding the phone closer to her ear. She had expected him to call, but not so soon. It had only been a day since she had asked him for help and thought he would need more time. She hoped this didn't mean that he would say no to give her tutoring.
'Hi Prem' she responded.
'I've made my decision' said Prem. Heer smiled, hoping his answer would be a yes.
'So...Will you tutor me?' she asked nervously.
'Ummm...yes...I will tutor you' he stated, to which Heer leapt up with joy. She could not stop the smile that spread across her face.
'Oh Prem- thank you so much! You don't know what this means to me!' she exclaimed.
'It's okay. How about I come over to your house tomorrow or something?' he asked.
'Wait- No- My dad doesn't actually know about me failing classes- is it okay if I come over to your house instead?' she asked 'I promise I will behave' she added in and he laughed. She unexpectedly liked his laugh, it was so hearty, and in a sense brought her closer to him.
'That's fine, around 5 then?' he said, giving her the address, which she noted and they hung up. She twirled around the room, happy that she was going to be able to make her parents proud and would no longer have to bow her head in shame. Maybe then they would agree to the Paris trip as well, she thought.
Prem sat on his bed wondering what he had just done. Did he do the right thing? Several questions ran through his mind. Yet there was no going back now. He had never imagined that the most popular girl of the school Heer Mann would ever come to his home to be tutored by him- it felt like an odd dream. She wasn't as bad as he expected her to be, maybe their little arrangement would work out after all.
But he had something else to do as well and picked up the phone again. He knew he was making the right choice as he dialled her number. As he heard her voice on the other line he started, 'Ravz- can you meet me today?' he asked.
That's it for today! So why is Prem calling Ravz for? 😆 Hope you liked it- can't wait to read comments!
