You guys have raised a very very valid point. It's not just about a show; people are getting ideas about how Muslim families are and live, and when anything is portrayed incorrectly, it has far reaching implications.

@KkavyAngad

See, a rule is a rule in any case whether anyone follows it or not. And even if people are doing wrong things and not following the religion in other aspects, that still doesnt change the rule about iddat:).

Yes, this is only a drama, but the logic behind the iddat is to establish the paternity of the child. That is, if the woman finds out she is pregnant, there should be absolutely no question about who the father is. Islam places great emphasis on the lineage.

If someone wants to get married to a widow, yes this is a great thing to do and all, but you have to wait. I see there is a disagreement on whether or not the waiting should be done till the child is born, but from what I have read on the subject, the dominant opinion is that the iddat of a pregnant woman lasts till the child is born, whether the child is born three months after the death of the husband or eight months.

In any case, someone here suggested writing to the director. Thats the best course of action we can take.

With all due respect to all of you,as I said i am in no position to point fingers at something as sacrilegous as religion itself.

If as u said drama_freak Islam places great emphasis on the lineage,how is the lineage of Afreen's child affected as she is married to a man who carries the same surname and father name as that of her late husband?

And i started this drama late but was there any reference that said that they got married before 40 days were over?40 episodes does not mean 40 days?

I sincerely apologise if anybody has felt offended by my words.I,in no means,have thought of any religion as inferior and do not wish to hurt the feelings of the people involved.

And as far as the waiting period is concerned,i think the first law of every religion is Humanity.If a man accepts a pregnant widow for the sake of humanity,why is it being made a issue?

I mean i am sorry to say but how many people out there actually practice Islam or any other religion the way it is?There are ppl justifying the 911 bombings in the name of humanity,but that's of no concern?A man rapes his daughters in the name of religion,but nobody is raising her voice against it instead his 3 muslim wives held the daughters down while their husband was raping the daughter?A man in my country had 10 wives and it was in the news.Just because we dont see these ppl doesnt mean ppl like this do not exist.

Please guys,i am not saying any religion is inferior to another but its about time we accept changes that are harmless!!!A man accepting a pregnant widow is offencive but planes crashing into a building full of innocent lives is just consoled and forgotten?

Hey, I know you are not trying to offend anyone, and I am glad all of us are having a healthy discussion 😛. However, your examples are those extreme cases, and like you said, we will never cross paths with most of these types of people (every religion has their set of crazies , and Muslims are aghast at hearing that kind of stuff as well).

However, in this show, AA are portrayed as normal, everyday Muslims, and when religion is altered to simply suit the needs of a show, that is offensive because you are sending the wrong message about the rules of that religion. Islam is already negatively and inaccurately portrayed in the media (there are plenty of Muslims who are wonderful human beings and contributing to society in a positive manner, but as your examples show, we only hear about the bad stuff), and this show (which reaches a broad audience and does wield power to change/influence public perception- just take the bindi example- nobody in Pakistan wore bindis, but it became a fashion craze in Pakistan after KGGK aired) is just further miscommunicating what Islam is about.

As far as the lineage question is concerned, Azaan is not Kabir, and paternity does matter (which is why couples spend thousands of dollars on fertility therapy when they can just as easily adopt; as corny as it sounds, your apna khoon, your own reflection, is just different).

PS- Many people don't know this but the four wives rule was created because during war, many women would lose their husbands and wouldn't have anybody to take care of them. To protect them from being raped by other tribes or not having someone to support them, men were allowed to take on 4 wives (but this rule is very stringent and you can only take on another wife if your first wife agrees, and you give all of them equal attention and time). So yes, widows have been thought about in more ways than one, and this is why concept of remarriage is allowed in Islam, even when it was foreign to other religions.

hey guys,
I thought that Afreen's mom said that her iddat was over. And a woman is not allowed to get married until her baby is born only if she was divorced not when her husband dies. So I think that was alright. As for they praying together, I dont think they were Praying Salat, they were just making dua which is not the same as making salat. Also, if we are arguing on this whole thing, remember quran khwani is also not allowed in islam and its considered biddat.
