Okay, so I admit that Balaji shows aren't an authority on religion, but today I found myself wondering what the director was thinking, and how much does he really know about the Islamic culture.
My sister has constantly pointed that AA marriage is considered illegal Islamically because Afreen didn't observe her iddat (the time to wait after your husband passes- In islam, if a woman finds out she is pregnant after her husband's passing, she cannot marry till the baby is born). I let that pass because, after all, this is a serial and you can only expect so much. There was no other excuse they could find to make AA marry each other.
However, today's episode was a bit much. In no Islamic prayer will the men and women ever be facing each other. While I loved the AA romance, it was highly inappropriate. They were praying for God's sakes! They shouldn't have been staring at each other.
I love this show, and I know that Ekta misportrays Indian culture as well (how many girls really have sex before marriage, or get married to four different people), but I guess this just bothered me and I thought I would put it out there, and see if it annoyed anyone else?
PS- I loved how Afreen prayed for God to show her the way to unite two people who love each other--she didn't say Saniya and Azaan, only two people who love each other. I think the two people are AA, not SA, so I hope Afreen is shown the way, and stops sacrificing and falling for Saniya's traps!
So this topic has generated a lot of interest 😊, but there are many people who are still confused about iddat. Iddat is the time a woman must wait after the death of her husband to marry. This time is four months and 10 days (not 40 days, which is a common misconception). If the woman finds out she is pregnant during this time, her iddat extends, and she must wait till the baby is born before she remarries.
As far as Hinduism is concerned, I know that Ekta inaccurately portrays Hinduism as well as Indian culture. Often times, she will show the actors/actresses walking in with shoes into a temple, which is most definitely inappropriate. She also shows girls having sex before marriage, which is not acceptable by any standards, Hinduism or Indian. Nobody here is saying she accurately portrays Hinduism and Indian culture- I was merely pointing out she is also not portraying Islam properly.
Last thought: I know it is a serial, but I just wanted to see who else notices this stuff, and how much of what Ekta shows is taken at face value and what is researched by the average viewer to confirm what they see. I am an Indian as well as a Muslim, so Ekta pretty much angers me on all fronts at times 😆, but I still love this show 😳!
