Hi guys! Did you know that Kesar was supposed to perform during the Star Parivaar Awards 2005? She was rehearsing for it (I saw it in a show called Pardey Ke Peechey) but something urgent must've come up, that's why she wasn't able to perform. She was missing at the event, too. I only saw Nikkhil (Rudra) and Hiten (Abhi)....

Seen this scene before…maybe in movies!

Television scripts seem to be virtual takeoffs from its elder bro --- tinsel town! We uncovered glaring examples of how some of the most memorable scenes and story tracks from tellydom remind us of Bollywood.

Hiten Tejwani: matters of the heart!

So what started the hunt, as far as we are concerned, was the recent track in Star Plus' Kesar. Here, a love saga will unfold as the new entrant in the show, Yash Tonk will fall head over heels in love with Kesar, just because he has her dead lover's (Hiten Tejwani) heart! Very filmi, we say! But it is true….Doesn't the storyline sound familiar? If yes, then you must have seen the Salman Khan starrer, Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha, where the heart patient, Bhoomika Chawla, starts having feelings for her boss as soon as she acquires his wife's heart!

This is not all…in K.Street Pali Hill, Smriti, ( Jasveer Kaur) met with an accident recently and her face became unrecognisable when she falls into a crocodile infested river. The buzz is that Smriti will come back in a new avatar to avenge her murder! Again the plot seems to be a take off from the Khoon Bhari Mang starring Rekha and Kabir Bedi.

Smriti and Rajeev: filmi deaths!

These take-offs are etched in our minds forever, as they appear mostly when there is an emergency situation on the show --- be it falling TRPs or a lead actor quitting the show, where it becomes imperative to do something dramatic to keep the viewer glued to the show.

Salman in 'Dil Ne...'

A case in point is the death of arguably tellydom's favourite son --- Sujal in Kahiin to Hoga. His death is reminiscent of Hrithik's much talked about underwater death sequence in Kaho Naa Pyar Hai. Remember his head striking a rock underwater, bouncing up and down and then finally giving up!

Television doesn't seem to mind aping the west as well. Let alone formats, some path breaking scenes have been copied from popular Hollywood flicks! In Saara Akash, as we saw Shakti Anand maneuver his way under a hijacked bus and try to diffuse the bomb planted there by terrorists, we are reminded of a similar scene in Keanu Reeve's Speed I --- it was copied bomb, terrorist, flying bus and all!

These are some of the scenes that struck us…there must be many more…but one thing that we keep wondering is do the serial makers realise what they are doing…or is it just plain old coincidence?

Heart transplant drama in Kesar
By: Shaheen Parkar
June 1, 2005

Yash Tonk
Yash Tonk (Kabeer of Saara Akash, Kunal of Kahiin Kissi Roz) enters the afternoon soap Kesar as a brash business baron from Thursday. The actor will essay the character of an influential NRI called Harman Khanna in this Star Plus drama.

He is a steel magnate whose business mantra is to buy non-profitable companies and make them profitable.

"Harman is rude, brash and blunt," says Tonk about his characterisation in the Balaji show. "At the same time he is also extremely suave where women are concerned."

Harman is described to be a self-centered man. Ruthless in nature, he lacks emotions and does not believe in love. His only object of fascination are horses — he lives the high life in a stud farm.

The track, according to the channel, will have Harman shifting to India to operate his business deals. To add drama into the show, it will have Harman require a heart transplant to survive.

To his rescue swings Abhi (Hiten Tejwani) who donates his heart (see box alongside). But before that there is lots more action in store.

Prior to his death, Abhi will reveal some startling facts to Harman who vows to ruin the industrial house of the Mallyas.

The serial now has Abhi's wife Kesar (Nandini Singh) back with her first husband Rudra (Nikkhil Arya), the scion of the Mallya empire.

Harman begins his gameplan to destroy Rudra. The turning point will be when he develops a soft corner for Kesar (he has Abhi's heart!).

Tonk, who is also seen on the big screen, says that he prefers to take on one TV show at a time as television "requires a lot of time." He will be seen in Sohail Khan's Fight Club, Ajay Chandok's Kisse Pyar Karoon and Neeraj Vora's Dil Sacha Chehra Jhootha.

Abhi's exit from Kesar

Hiten Tejwani
Hiten Tejwani, who replaced Eijaz Khan as Abhi in Kesar, will in due course be eased out of the show.

The track will have his heart transplanted into Harman Khanna's (Yash Tonk) body.

"I am still shooting for Kesar," says Tejwani. "I know that there are going to be some developments on the track front," explains Tejwani about his imminent exit from the drama.

Tejwani also features as Karan in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and as Yug in Kkavynajali. According to the channel, Abhi's character will be shown dead after introducing Harman.

Earlier, Khan had made an exit from the show after he replaced Rakshak Sawhney to play Kkavya in Kkavynjali.

Kesar's pregnant pause
By: Shaheen Parkar
January 21, 2006

------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------

Nandini Singh
There was a recent buzz in telly circles that actress Nandini Singh (Kesar of Kesar, Pammi of Kavyanjali) had done a disappearing act.

That she had not been reporting for the shoot of both these Balaji shows on Star Plus and there was no communication from her end disrupting the shoot schedules.

"I heard this, too, and I really don't know who is spreading such rumours," claims Nandini. The actress says that she was very much at home in Mumbai and extremely unwell.

Main bimaar thi

"On December 26, I took ill while shooting. I had not been keeping well as I had been shooting continuously for bother Kesar and Kavyanjali. On December 27, I fainted and was bed-ridden. That's why I could not shoot. And anyway there was a short break for New Year. I was back on the sets on January 2," she point out.

Interestingly, Nandini's characters, Kesar and Pammi are in the throes of pregnancy in both Kesar and Kavyanjali. As Kesar, she is really pregnant with a slight blood pressure problem. While in Kavyanjali, she has been shown to have just delivered after a fake pregnancy. "This has been done in connivance with mother-in-law Nitya (Amrita Singh).

She sees me one day stuffing a cushion in my dress and the cat was out of the bag," laughs Nandini. "As Kavya's (Eijaz Khan) second wife, Pammi had faked her pregnancy to keep Kavya away from first wife Anjali (Anita Hasanandani). I am shown packed off to Pune and the baby that Nitya passes off as mine is actually Anjali's baby which was kidnapped immediately after birth. Anjali is told her baby is dead

Cushion act

For both the shows, Nandini has separate cushions which were inflated according to the size and month of the pregnancy. "It takes me barely a minute to wear the cushion below the dress. In Kavyanjali I don't need the cushion any longer, while in Kesar I am seven months pregnant, so the cushion act is still on."

Far from exhaustion or suffering from labour pangs, Nandini is enjoying essaying pregnant characters. "It's fun, especially when the cushion has to be adjusted according to the month. After all it is just a character and my role."

Nandini, who has done a couple of music videos, was an air-hostess with Jet Airways. She starred opposite Govinda in David Dhawan film Ek Aur Ek Gyarah.
