Nandini Singh as Kesar... As sweet as they come. FIRST CAME a music video. Then happened a film. A few more song and dance videos ensued. Now is the time for a teleserial. Known to us as Kesar, in Star Plus's afternoon serial by the same name, Nandini Singh now says all these moves were never planned at all. "Though since childhood, I always wanted to get into the field of acting, when I started working, it was as an airhostess of Jet Airways. Then in 2002, I was chosen for the music video for Aryans' song 'Dekha Hai Teri Aankhon Mein'. Soon after that, I got a call from Subhash Ghai's Mukta Arts for a role in Ek Aur Ek Gyarah and I ended up doing it opposite Govinda," says this St. Xavier's College alumnus in a voice as soft as her looks. In 2002 and the year next, audiences saw Nandini in tune with Jagjit Singh's album 'Forget Me Not' and Abhijit's album 'Tere Bina' on TV sets. And in 2004, here enters Nandini into your living room again. "For some time, I was receiving calls from Balaji Telefilms for some role or the other in their serials. Since my motto is to look for good work even if it is less work by other's standards, I kept on waiting for a part in which I feel like involving myself. When sometime ago, they briefed me about Kesar, I wanted to read the script. At once, I fell in love with the character. It has many beautiful shades," she states. But why? "Because, I am so much like Kesar. Self-respect is something I can't compromise with. I am proud of my Indian values. However bad a situation becomes for me, I always like to see the positive angle like Kesar," Nandini makes the comparison for you. "That is how now, while the serial focusses on me, I focus on acting," the girl says, trying to justify as to why she said no to many roles that came to her after her one and only film. "Acting is my first priority and I do not end up doing something which has no meaning attached to it," she stresses. Though, a price for it has to be paid.

"I work for almost 18 hours a day as Kesar is a daily. I just come home to sleep for the night. At Balaji, they pamper actors a lot though. They provide us the kind of diet we want. The studio even has a small couch with blankets and pillows where you can take a quick nap," Nandini informs. This, mind you, she says, after keeping you from your post-lunch nap every day.
