"The memories close to our hearts"
Prologue
Neev Shergill, is now known as one of the best architects in the country. It has been more than five years that he left India, his homeland. And he has vowed himself that he would never return after what he had done. He had hurt the one person he had loved and will always love. He had brought tears in her eyes and that was something he could never forgive himself. Living presently in London, he has achieved everything he had once wished and dreamed for yet he could never be fully happy. There was always some guilt in his heart. And that guilt killed him inside. Only if he would have said no that day, he would never have seen tears in her eyes.
Taking out his wallet, he looked at her picture. It was a picture, he had taken of her. She looked beautiful that day and he still remembered the smile on her face. It was the only thing he had of her and it was enough for him. All her memories were still fresh in his mind like it was yesterday. And it was all these memories that still kept him going. He only wished that she was happy and always smiling.
Prachi Shah now lives in Montral, a small francophone city on the other side of the planet. Never had she imagined living outside of India. Then again, when had anything happen according to her thoughts and likes? In these past 5 years, she had changed from a simple girl to a mature woman.
Sitting on her bed, she looked at the box in front of her. The box was filled with all her past memories. Some good and some bad. Some happy and some sad. In these five years, not even a day passed without her looking at the box. However, she would never open it. Opening it would mean revisiting her past and that was something she did not wish to do. Every night she would take it out from her closet and stare at it as tears would role down her eyes. Why did it have to be like this? All her love, pain, and hatred were locked in that small box. There were times, when she wanted to take a look at some of the pictures to look at him, the man she had once loved and deep down still did, but she knew that it would only deepen her pain. She has moved on with her life but her heart refused to do so. It was still where it was five years ago.
Milind Mishra, the solo owner of Mishra chain of hotels, was known for his arrogant attitude. He was never like this before but circumstances had changed him. Life had changed him. In these past 5 years, he had built up an invisible wall around him that only a few people knew how to reach out to him. He was once full of joy but now it was rare to see him smile. It was almost like he had forgotten how to smile. Day and night, he had kept himself busy with work. It was the only thing that kept him away from her memories.
Sitting in his study, he stared at the papers. The papers that still kept him connected to his past. Every day, he would take those papers out from his drawer not knowing exactly what to do with them. His mind told him to let go but his heart told him to hold on. Why had she betrayed him, his trust, and his love? Was his love not enough for her? In these part years, he had tried to forget her and hate her but deep down he knew that it was impossible. He may hate her but forgetting her was out of question. She was and will forever be in his memories.
Ayesha Kapoor has always got what she wished for, except for one thing and even that she was determined to get. She had always been successful in her life, her dreams and her plans. They had never failed her then and now. She was loved by everyone except that one person who had taken everything away from her.
Standing near the door, she stared at the man she always loved and will forever love. But she was invisible to him. In these past 5 years, she had tried everything in her power to reach out to him but always failed to leave her mark. She was his best friend and his business partner yet was unable to become his life partner. She had always been there for him and his family but he was never there for her. His mind and heart were filled with someone else's memories and she wasn't able to get through them. He lived in the present but his heart and soul lived in the past.
Angad Khanna never stayed at one place for more than a couple of months. He had the money and he loved to travel. However, for the past 5 years he now lived in this small city unknown to the world only because of her. She had changed his idea of life and living. They had become friends from their very first meeting. There was something in her that changed him and he had only changed for her sake. Together, they had opened an advertisement business that turned out to be pretty successful.
Sitting in his office, he stared at the photo frame and a smile had automatically formed on his lips. He loved her and she knew it. He had promised her that he would give her time and he would wait all his life if he had to. She needed him more than he needed her. And he made sure he was always there for her. He was ready to make new memories with her only if she was able to let go of her past memories. He knew it was hard for her to let go but he would help her through it. This was the only way to bring back the real smile on her face.
