Panchi’s progress

I had recently commented after watching an old SBS episode with kayamath team that Panchi speaks very differently in that interview than she does in Kayamath. I had wished she would speak like normal people do and not in her broken sentences. And i felt that Monday's dialogs were something that brought out the real Panchi Bora the actress outside the skin of what she has been trained to do. Panchi rightfully was criticized for a long time after Kayamath started for her lack of expressions and her dialog delivery. It can't be denied (no matter how much of an ardent fan of her character i am) that Panchi was chosen for the role because all she had to do was keep mum and look pretty or cry a little now and then. That was her role in the beginning and for a good length of the show. But now that her character is exploding right-left-and center Panchi can't remain that mute, petite, soft little girl. She needs to polish her skills and i am glad she realized it herself. I have seen a marked improvement in her expressions in the past two weeks. Yes i know, all she has done is cry but up until the last episodes of december i felt that her crying was artificial. It didn't move me much (the only two worth remembering were, Inder's death scn and after Milsi's fake rape atempt) But recently, the scn when she remembers the beautiful Michi moments in the house and breaks down and the crying today just seemed more real. Even Milsi's tears were far too realistic. His eyes were red. Anyway this post is about Panchi. Her confrontation of Milind in the beach and the way she kept stopping him by standing in his way...i am glad Prachi is using the screen space instead of standing in the corner of the frame like a statue that sheds tears or smiles when needed. Prachi seems more human now than ever before and i think largely due to the change in Panchi's performance. The part that still haunts me is the way she gasped in the middle of her dialog (might have been involuntary) about her being proud of her dad...that gasp regardless of being voluntary or involuntary added the little extra to that scn and dialog that just broke my heart in an instant. I wanted to shoot everyone in that room just due to that one thing. She still has a long way to go and i suggest she start by learning to walk gracefully in a saree. But its a relief that a the actor playing one of my favorite characters is growing worthy of my adoration.

Absolutely right, JC. I actually had tears in my eyes and I don't cry easily especially for BT serials. And yes, that gasp was out of the world. If that was part of her acting, hats off to the girl. She's surpassed all expectations.
If she's nominated for the best actress award, I hope they show this scene on the AV.

I think she's learnt some of her acting skills by sheer osmosis from her colleague, Shabbir. She just had to raise her standards to suit his.

Well, can't give all the credit to Shabbir, although his presence will definitely challenge her to give the best shot! 😉 *The reason I don't want to credit him too much is sometimes he overacts quite a bit! lolz...he can actually do much better*

Agreed, JC, Panchi is slowly, but surely, coming of age as a versatile actress

I agree with you guys...Panchi was very good...! Her acting, her dialoges, everything touched my heart...Although you mentioned this once jinc, but i have to say that Milind's tears were too real...His eyes were absolutely red...Probably her words just made him melt...I saw the tears trickle down his eyes when she mentioned the little things she would do for him without letting him know...Both were excellent and panchi has improved immensely! I loved her performance last night!!

Yes, Panchi has improved considerably. Apart from her scenes yesterday I liked the shot at the beach where they show only her eyes brimming with tears. that was also very well done. I only hope she improves her dialogue delivery skills a little more. she tends to be squeaky when she raises her voice. She needs to have better voice control in emotional scenes. Shabbo is excellent in that department, he can make his voice crack, bark, tease, romance all with such ease. With time I think she will improve in the voice area too and give stiff cometition to him.

@tele-vision. I understand what you are saying. But one has to keep in mind, Indians as a class are a little over the top. So I guess our actors will also get to portray this on screen although sometimes it may get overboard. Underplayed acting as we see in hollywood would not suit the Indian masses because our people are emotional and that has to come out.
