Introduction.
The characters, their backgrounds and relationships are almost the same as the show except niether Milind nor Ayaesha have any past links to Prachi. So, there is no illegitmate daughter or servant's son drama here.
Milind - A 28 year old businessman. Has spent the last 2 years steadily building his business as a middleman for hotels around Mumbai. Anything they need, he gets it for them. Ultimately aims to own those very same hotels.(Seriously, how Milind made his millions in 2 months is one of the most absurd things on a show full of absurdities. I am aiming for a slightly more realistic approach to becoming a millionaire.)Has moved out of the chawl and found an apartment of his own. His father passed away a year ago. Before Mishraji's death, he and Milind made peace, once he saw Milind taking life seriously and making a success out of it. (This means my Milind is slightly less bitter, angry and weighted down by the heavy chip on his shoulder.) Sukruti is studying in Australia and is having the time of her life. Milind is still carrying a torch for Ayesha but feels he has to make his mark on the world before he approaches her about a relationship.
Ayesha - Is making inroads as a model and is also getting work in some minor roles in soaps and commercials. Her mom is at a medical facility and Ayesha is living the life of a swinging single Mumbai girl with a place of her own. She and Milind are still close but their lives have been seemingly following very different paths in the last year or so.
Neev - Has joined the Shah/Shergil business and is a regular on the Mumbai party circuit. Prachi is still his best friend.
Prachi - Still reeling a bit from her broken engagement to Varun but has come to realise that she loves Neev. However Neev seems to have no intention of giving up the high life and settling down, least of all with her. In the meantime Prachi works as an interpreter and organiser for business conferences in her father's hotel. (Inder is very much alive in my FF.)
Chapter 1
'Neev, we can't start without him. My mother is not here and he is the next best thing, I have to family. I can't get married without him.', said Ayesha. Neev didn't want to argue with her, certainly not on their wedding day. Anyway, he felt gulity enough that he couldn't give her the grand wedding that he knew that she secretly wanted and that they had to resort to eloping. But Niharika refused to listen to a word he said about Ayesha. She did not want a two bit model with no family as her daughter-in-law and that was final. He turned around to their small gathering of friends crowding the roadside temple and shrugged.
Prachi could barely muster a smile, as Neev looked at her for reassurance. She was reeling. She had heard all about the gorgeous, wonderful Ayesha from Neev. But she assumed that like all his other flings, she would be old news within 2 months. She had not expected to receive a phone call this morning summoning her to their cladestine wedding. She felt dazed but she could recognise the fact that Neev did truly look like a man in love around Ayesha. It was a very hard reality to face that he never looked at her like that. Acknowledging that, Prachi returned Neev's smile. As much as her heart was breaking, it still gladdened her to see Neev happy. Just then she was jolted out of her thoughts by Ayesha exclaiming, "He's here!".
Ayesha hugged the tall man that approached the temple. The curly haired man seemed to be staring at Ayesha so intensely, Prachi wasn't sure whether he was going to strangle Ayesha or kiss her.Ayesha in her excitement, seemed barely to notice and dragged him to Neev. Neev shook his hand and said, "Let's get this show on the road." Milind was numb. It was as if everything around him was falling down and he was too paralysed to do anything. When he had met Ayesha a few weeks back, she had mentioned Neev. Just one of the many rich guys Ayesha met as part of her networking on Mumbai's social scene. Ayesha never took any of these guys seriously and even made fun of how Neev was bombarding her with flowers but now she was marrying him!
Milind felt angry with Ayesha but he knew that the anger was misplaced. He had nobody to blame but himself. He had spent so much time building a future for him and Ayesha that he forgot about the present. He never really told her how he felt. How stupid of him to expect her to wait around for him when he gave her no indication about his true feelings. As he watched Ayesha meekly follow Neev for the seven rounds around the fire, he never felt more lost in his life. As Neev tied the mangal sutra around Ayesha's neck, the demure girl standing directly opposite Milind across the mandir caught his eye. Her face reflected the same heart break that he was feeling.
