Chapter 4
Lobby of Inder's most exclusive hotel.
"Merci." "Je vous en prie"
Milind turned around to detect where the French was coming from. Milind was amazed to see Prachi wearing the hotel uniform of a red and white sari with a black blazer conversing with a middle age French businessman. Out of the corner of her eye, Prachi noticed Milind giving her one of his intense looks and suddenly found her grasp of French a little less assured. "Prachi, what you are doing?", asked Milind once the French gentleman had left. "I work as an interpreter when business conferences are held here.", smiled Prachi. Milind was impressed. Most girls in her privileged position would be wiling away their time shopping. Before Milind could further question her, Inder joined then. "Prachi, why don't you join us for lunch if the conference is over?," said Inder

With Inder with them, for once the topic of conversation was not about Neev and Ayesha. Prachi found out Milind had a post graduate honours degree in commerce and Milind found out that Prachi had a BA and was fluent in French, near fluent in Mandarin and could speak a bit of German and Spanish. Eventually the conversion moved onto Milind's family. It was clearly evident that his sister Sukruti meant the world to him. "But sometimes, I can't understand a word she writes in her emails. The Australian slang is a bit too much." complained Milind. "Well, none of us understand Bobby's heavy metal talk.", laughed Prachi.

Inder was watching them carefully. After the fiasco with Varun, Premlata made him promise not to make any hasty decisions regarding Prachi's future. He also knew that Prachi had feelings for Neev but he was secretly relieved about Neev's elopement. He liked the boy but he didn't feel that Neev was what Prachi needed in life. As he watched Milind & Prachi talk, he became more convinced that Milind was what Prachi needed in life. Even though Milind, came from an humble background with no family to back him up, he was already on his way to achieving great success in life. A self made man like Milind will always be able to care and protect Prachi.

After lunch was over, Milind found himself accepting Inder's invitation for Ali and him to attend the dandiya cermony being held at Shah home over the weekend. At the dandiya ceremony, Milind and Ali found themselves receiving quite a bit of attention from some of Prachi's cousins and friends. Niether Milind nor Ali were complaining. Prachi busy helping out her mother and grandmother with the preparations, couldn't help noticing that Milind didn't look like he was mourning Ayesha while sharing a joke with her friend Preeti.

Once the dandiya playing started, Prachi found herself in a corner watching the proceedings. Usually she had Neev to partner her at these functions. Milind excused himself from Preeti and walked over to Prachi. "Promise you won't throw the stick at me?", said Milind as he invited her to join him. After a while, Milind said, "Your friend Preeti seems really nice." Prachi felt a slight twinge of annoyance on hearing Milind say that. God, could guys never see beyond a pretty face and a flirty manner. Then, she immediately felt bad. She wasn't being fair either to Milind or to Preeti. To compensate Prachi said, "She's really smart too. Her parents wanted her to get married after college but she really wanted a career in advertising. She moved out of her home and today is working for a top agency."

"Well going against your parents is something you will never do.", said Milind. Prachi looked slightly hurt. "It's not necessarily a bad thing.", said Milind catching the expression on her face. Now, Prachi really did feel like throwing her dandiya stick at him for his glib assessment of her. Milind was saved by his phone ringing. "Ayesha, Ayesha, slow down, I can't understand a word you are saying." said Milind. "Ayesha & Neev got evicted from her apartment. Tell Ali, that I left.", said Milind before Prachi could get a word edgewise. Prachi watched as he hurried out of the house.

Chapter 5
It was only much later that night that Prachi got a chance to phone Neev. He didn't sound too distraught. "Milind apparently owns another apartment by the sea. He is letting us use it for a while. Listen, we are holding a house warming party next week. You got to come." Prachi was suddenly strangely irriated. Shouldn't Neev be more concerned about the fact that just a few hours ago he and Ayesha were facing life on the streets, if it had not been for Milind coming to their rescue instead of throwing parties? Neev however was not letting her off the phone without her promise that she will come.

The party was in full swing when Milind arrived. He couldn't believe that he actually came. Every time he tried to stay away from Ayesha, she dragged him back into her life. As soon as he walked through the door, Ayesha hugged him, thanked him again for the apartment and got Neev to get him a drink. Neev, now seemed to consider Milind a friend and was busy chatting away. It struck Milind that Ayesha & Neev were quite similar in some ways. They both could win over people effortlessly. But Milind also had to admit grudgingly that Neev seemed like a really decent guy. He could see why both Prachi and Ayesha were so taken with him. Which woman wouldn't want a guy who could make her laugh instead of someone like himself who tended to be over serious.

As soon as Prachi entered the party, Ayesha seemed to be on a mission to bond with her. She had been very apologetic that she and Prachi hadn't gotten a chance to get to know each other better until now. "Everything, happened so fast. But Neev talks about you all the time.", said Ayesha as a way of an explanantion. Ayesha was beautiful & vivacious but underneath that sparkly exterior, Prachi could sense a good heart. Prachi could understand why Neev, though standing on the other side of the room with a bunch of his friends couldn't seem to keep his eyes off his wife and why Milind brooding in a corner of the room also seemed unable to look away from her.

It wasn't yet 10, but Prachi had, had enough. "Bobby, if you get this message, I'm ready to go. Please come pick me up." said Prachi phoning Bobby for the 3rd time in the last half an hour. "I'll drop you off.",said Milind coming from behind. Prachi turned around. He was standing quite close. For the first time, Prachi realised just how tall Milind was.She came just about his shoulder height. Prachi quickly took a step back and accepted his offer.

Niether spoke much in the car. Both were absorbed in their own thoughts and also sensed that the other person wasn't in the mood for much conversation. Prachi was so tired. She felt tired pining for a man that wasn't hers in the first place. Meanwhile, Milind resolved that he would stop torturing himself about a woman who only ever considered him a friend. Both Prachi & Milind had come to realise during the party that Ayesha and Neev belonged together and they had no right to intrude on that. For the sake of their own self respect they had to move on. When they reached the Shah mansion Milind said, "I guess, I'll see you on Sunday. Your dad has invited me for supper." "I don't think so. I am leaving for Delhi tomorrow. I'll be gone for 4 months.", replied Prachi. Milind & Prachi said their goodbyes and both went to sleep that night, determined to put their pasts behind them.
