Divaliya in Diwali?
TV's great gamblers

Diwali is all about sweets, lights and cards. Playing cards is an intrinsic part of the festival and Diwali card parties are de rigueur. Stories of flashy festive card nights make the rounds during every season and who hosts the best in Tinsel town is debatable. Some play for a token amount whereas some play for high stakes. But play you must.

And as the gambling begins this Diwali we quiz some of our festive gamblers on what is the biggest amount they have lost and won in a Diwali card session.

Sharad Kelkar:

I love playing cards on Diwali with my friends in and outside the industry since I don't have many relatives here. We generally play Rummy and I lose more than I win. The maximum that I have lost is Rs. 10,000 and it is also the maximum I have won as I don't bet more than that. If you ask me what I do with the amount I win I would say that I lose it the next day.

Roshni Chopra:

My kid sister is an addicted gambler and I too play but just for the shagun. Infact, I finance them and I don't take the money home that I win. It is said that it is lucky to lose money on Diwali. I play Teen Patti and 21 Black Jack. The maximum that I was about to lose was just a month ago at a Casino in New York. I almost lost 3000 dollars but managed to pull out and in the end won 800 dollars. The maximum that I have lost on Diwali while playing with family and friends is Rs. 10,000 as I don't bet a penny beyond that.

Jay Bhanushali:

I used to play cards on Diwali with my family and friends but I have stopped it now as I have come to terms with the fact that whenever I play, I always lose. For the past couple of years I have been doing some smart stuff on Diwali. I fund the most promising guy in the group and demand 60% of the profit he makes. I think I deserve 60% as I am taking the risk of putting the principal amount. The maximum that I have lost is Rs 2000 but even a penny sounds like a million bucks when you lose it at a card game.

Naman Shaw:

We play cards every Diwali at Ekta's (Kapoor) place as she is famous for hosting gala card parties for card lovers. We usually play Teen Patti and Flash and I am lucky enough to win more than I lose. I have won a maximum of Rs. 25,000. I just party hard with the amount I win.

Sucheta Trivedi:

I play cards with my family and friends on Diwali. We play Flash and variations of Teen Patti. As I don't bet huge amounts, the maximum that I have lost is Rs 500. But the person who wins at it calls for food and thus treats others.
