Viaan's calm resolve + navigation of space

Viaan's character has been settling into his emotions for Katha since a couple of weeks now but today was one of those stand out episodes where his character rose head and shoulders above many once again.

There are two kinds of honesty.....the blunt kind where you want to go around pointing out the truth of everything in the world and the second one is about living your own truth no matter how much people tell you to suppress it for "the greater good". Viaan is currently living out the second kind of honesty....and for some reason that seems to rub some folks the wrong way😆. Me personally, I find it to be an impressive trait when someone finds the courage to live out their truth without running down others.

So many standout moments from Viaan today.....in the first scene when he overhears Katha-Teji's convo, he assures Katha that his mom won't approach her on such topics again....but as he's leaving, he turns and gently says that he has respected her decision, so his decision should be respected too, right? Later on, the way he smiles at his mom when she's trying to push him to meet the lawyer girl.....that is the smile of someone who is at utter peace after achieving clarity in life. He has found that sukoon in utterly submitting himself to love, to whatever God decides as the path for that love. His mom and Katha both consider this to be an impractical take on life so they shake their heads at him....lol but neither seems to notice that he has finally found peace after a lifetime of restlessness....doesn't that count for anything?

And then the best scene of the episode.....Katha ji as usual can't help herself from going to lecture him about his life choices and how he needs to move on😆.....for a woman who claims to be very "clear", as usual she is anything but😆. I really enjoy these scenes where Viaan ever so GENTLY but EFFECTIVELY cuts through her BS and points out the flaws in her "logic"😆. The way they built the backdrop of this scene around the concept of taking a step into someone's space.....Katha telling him she is taking a step into his space because she once again wanted him to understand he has no chance with her so he needs to move on....lol she really thought coming and giving him a seperate lecture on this will make him "move on"? 😆 I liked how Viaan used the architecture analogy of how architects build walls to make room in a house and Katha then countered saying she doesn't want to make any rooms in her house😆. After this, Katha again tried to switch gears by claiming he should meet another woman and she might turn out to be much nicer than Katha, he may like her much more😆.....to this, Viaan requested permission to step into Katha's space to make his point😆....this was done so sweetly by the way - amazing job from Adnan. The way Viaan said to Katha that he remembers Adi from their childhood and there were many other kids who played better than Adi....but if he was to ask Katha, for her Adi will always remain best for her, right? 😆....and as usual Katha's eyes started popping like giant saucers cuz she had no response to that😆....and she understood without him saying it directly to her that no matter how many women are thrown in his path, for him Katha will always be the best one for him.

This is where Viaan's character wins over Katha these days....the confidence and peace that comes with conviction....way back when the ONS had happened and Viaan was drowning in guilt/confusion, it was Katha who used to have this confidence and conviction in her body language....these days she is all BS😆. Grasping at straws and all kinds of excuses to GET Viaan to move on....lol why do you NEED him to move on, Katha? You are clear, right? So how does his moving on/not moving on impact your life in any way? What is this BS of "this is affecting our families"? lol why are you interested in what his mom does? Is she your family? 😆....Viaan on the other hand is handling both his mom and Katha so nicely in this phase....so gentle with both of them but still standing firm on his conviction and his decisions....it's a fine balance right now👏

Lovely post & agree with your observations Anu👏!

To be honest I am one of the folks who have been rubbed the wrong way by the post confession Viaan behaviour and confused by his behaviour😆!! Ever since he started living his truth & feelings without any filters (constantly staring, intruding her space, and talking about his feelings with her) it has irritated me a lot. Cause I personally believe that in a workspace no matter how much you are riding high on love, you have to keep the decorum and not go around wearing your heart on your sleeve. And some of his initial behaviour was too OTT for me. I have been wanting to see him respecting his as well Katha’s boundaries inspite of being deeply in love, being a little more serious at work, not moving around with that goofy smile all the time😆. And I think many people are finding him over the top because we all bring our own set of filters from our own experiences and what behaviours are acceptable to us.

But over the last week I have found that the makers are slowly evolving Viaan’s character to come into his own, and this episode showcased the new Viaan in a very beautiful way. His initial euphoria has started finally settling in, the constant staring is subsiding and he has moved into a calm, peaceful & honest space, with acceptance of his feelings for Katha yet understanding the futility of their situation & a complete acceptance of it.

I loved Viaan in every frame yesterday. The way he conducted himself around all three women…be it his mother, Katha or Reet brought out the maturity & warmth of his character in such a beautiful manner. I, like many others here, have been holding on to the original Viaan…the no nonsense tough businessman, brisk and to the point and looking for some angst instead of the goofiness we are getting.

But what I am realising about Viaan’s character is that…underneath the tough exterior he has projected all his life, he has always been a warm, loving, funny goofy little boy, just looking for love and validation. His innocence & spirit was crushed by his father’s infidelity and abandonment & his mother’s victim playing self-pity & absentee love. Like most children dealing with childhood trauma, he created protective wall around himself as a survival mechanism. With Katha he went through a trial by fire and that tough facade cracked open releasing the little boy trapped inside. But that boy is a man with immense warmth, gentleness and love inside his heart and he holds Katha in reverence because she has helped resurrect that Viaan from the dead. And I think I am finally getting the amalgamation of the two aspects of Viaan I was looking for ☺️!

The way he spoke to his mother with such honesty and empathy, understanding her concern for him and yet letting her know what Katha means to him was so beautiful. And more than ever before I could feet the depth of his emotions for Katha today, when he talked about how his love for her had turned him into a believer and his head automatically bows down in reverence now. His mother was left speechless & concerned, which I feel is understandable. Adnan had my heart in that scene ❤️!

And the scene with Katha was again so beautifully written and executed. The stepping into each other’s space ever so gently and showing the mirror was done with such finesse. Hats off to the dialogue writers and again to Adnan as Viaan. I loved the way you put it…he called her out on her BS. Katha is behaving like an ostrich now…she is deeply affected by him but she thinks if he just backs off, goes and finds another girl she will be all good and go on with her life like before. Which she probably will too….cause she is someone who has created such heavy walls around her heart with Adi’s memories that she is in complete denial of her feelings. She does not even realise what she is missing in life by giving him a pass. Yes her life revolves around her son and she can live her life happily with him as a mother. But what about the woman inside her…she is unaware of the emotional needs of that woman. I love this mature cool, composed, at peace, firm and yet so gentle Viaan. And yet today my heart also broke for him. I think we are going to get a lot more angst with Vanya in the picture.

I am still not ok with Aarav being burdened by the emotional angst & baggage of grown up issues at such a young age. Not sure if they are trying to highlight that Aarav having faced a lot in life is mature for his age and can understand and deal with such. Or this is to show that Viaan and Aarav have an unfiltered, special bond with each other. I do wish they would tone down Viaan unburdening himself with the little boy though.

I hope to see Katha’s character evolving going forward…she has become too much of a single note character.

Thanks, Smriti! :)

LOL oh I was finding Viaan's mooney eyed staring and majnu behavior excessive in the early days after the confession too - I think I remember discussing the same with you in some post back in those days. But I do feel the script was a little disjointed around that time too....there was the overdose of the jugnu poem and that reference in every dialogue, the forced insertion of Ehsan scenes to give daily commentary on how supposedly clueless and pointless Viaan's love is. It took a while for things to settle but we are finally here at the point where the depth and maturity of Viaan's love is coming through in his interactions with Katha and how he's handling her constantly trying to shoot him down even when he's not making any overtures towards her....lol her incessant need to keep trying to get the last word in on whatever he says even after claiming she is not affected by anything he says or does....lol I'm just loving the gentle resolve with which Viaan is handling that.

As for Viaan himself....I feel it's been clear from the early days of the show that he is a very maasoom, soft hearted person at his core....this showed in his attachment to animals - the way he would rush to protect little lost puppies and totally melt over Lollipop's visit to the office (I miss Lollipop btw...looks like they axed him to make room for the real superstar Ehsan saab....lol). He projected a stern/tough demeanor but other than his initial prejudice with Katha, he wasn't really rude or mean to any of his employees deliberately. He had cultivated a cynical exterior to hide his disillusionment but he was always a sensitive soul simply craving love and a genuine connection....this is why we are beaten over the head with the jugnu analogy....lol because he was floundering in darkness all his life - searching for light and the moment he found light, it erased all the darkness inside him and put him in touch with the person he always was...innocent, sweet and goofy....he is essentially someone who lost his childhood to a lot of trauma so somewhere that child-like part has been preserved inside him and comes out in front of people he genuinely feels that affection for....his mom, Ehsan and now Katha and Aarav as well. When a person starts behaving without their usual filters, I guess its a bit unnerving for people....but as long as the unfiltered version is not encroaching on someone's space or imposing themselves on others, I think some benefit of doubt can be given....and some understanding too as a person is going through a transformative emotion as was the case for Viaan😆.....it has truly felt like that journey where initially you just FEEL so much that you don't know how to manage it....but then after a few days you understand what you are feeling and there is an assurance in how you are able to conduct yourself and manage things.

Re: Aarav....lol yes that is a bit of a grey area since they've dragged the Batman-Robin secret for this long and creative liberties have been taken to make Aarav the confidante in this issue but I still anyday prefer him over Ehsan, sorry😆.....even if it's weird that a child is getting this involved in such a matter, I still find a core maasoomiyat and sweetness in Viaan-Aarav's connection that makes these scenes work.....I feel the child in Viaan connects with Aarav deeply and that is why he has ended up sharing so much with him....if you notice, he does try to avoid the topic sometimes but Aarav always draws it out of him....lol cuz Aarav is also a unique case of a child who's seen a lot in life at a young age.

This forum is usually filled with a lot of praise for Aditi but I have to say Adnan is taking Viaan to another level with the sheer class with which he plays him👏.....

As for Katha....lol doesn't seem like writers have much for her to do other than daily lectures and wide eyed looks at Viaan....lol more than Viaan's staring, it is her doing this usual routine of bug eyed staring at him that has gotten tiresome for me😆. Waise speaking of staring, Viaan was sneaking glances at Katha again today during that appointment letter handout scene😆....but it's much more toned down now and he just stares at her thoughtfully rather than getting mooney-eyed😆

LOL Katha madam ka mujhe yeh bhi bahut funny lagaa ki jis Vanya se itna chidh rahi thi in the interview, aaj already uske saath bonding bhi shuru ho gayi in the appointment letter scene😆.....wonder if makers have again flipped the narrative and it will again become the usual case of yet another person in the office joining the worship Queen Katha without question brigade😆. Pehle lag raha tha ki yeh Vanya might challenge Katha a bit....but aaj toh yeh bhi Katha ke saath dil ki baatein share karo mode mein chali gayi.....lol so Katha can relax and continue with her "I know everything" self-righteousness 😆

Viaan hasn't overstepped at all and is giving Katha plenty of space and lots of regard.....but lagta hai Katha madam se woh hazam nahin ho raha isliye aake special lectures de rahi hai on moving on😆....if I didn't know better, I'd say it's almost like Katha is testing him to see if he walks away from her if she keeps showing him alternative paths for his life😆

Btw congrats on an Ehsan free episode😛😆

Great posts by all. The recent scenes make him appear more dignified and respected so naturally. Personally speaking, I felt more gravitated towards Viaan because there's nothing to really gloss over like no rationalization required whatsoever. It's all natural and the way, like you guys mentioned about Viaan cutting through Katha's repeated lecture about moving on and whatnot. Lol, I just liked it when Viaan mentioned Katha's words from the past episodes. 😆Even also, when he stated that his decision should mutually be respected. 👍🏼

With regards to the scene between him & Teji, it was nice to see him explain that he's more happier than before in an organic way and its quite observable. Adnan's doing pretty good job. 👏 👍

I felt the comparison the single mother was just so inane, aside from Katha doing the usual advising him to get over her and repeated dialogues lol. So stereotypical!

Even him handling Reet was nice too!

A really good bunch of posts here by Areyaar & others, and some refreshing points of view.

I guess most of us are relieved by Viaan’s holding back yet holding firm approach seen in yesterday’s episode.

Gr8 post

Lately i was frustrated with both leads but Katha takes the cake

She is one of the most irritating characters i have seen ,she is always nagging ,preaching or complaining i mean when was the last time u saw her happy or even normal

She has to interfere in everyones personal matter

And she is definitely going to give lectures to Viaan to accept Vanya .

Katha ka naam katha nhi gyaan ganga rakh do plzzz

Oh yes, thanks for reminding me. I meant to mention that scene too....it was another example of how gracefully he handled someone who was trying to fish for information about him and Katha. He simply smiled and said it's nice that Katha's family thinks so much for her.....lol not sure why Reet was jumping so much in victory like she got to hear Viaan shouting his love for Katha or something. But Viaan for his part handled it calmly and nicely.

Katha is becoming a stilted character because of her repeated lectures on the same topic while Viaan is getting to show more shades these days since he's in a notably happier space....even as Katha keeps rejecting him, he finds contentment in small things and doesn't impose himself anywhere.

ROFL 🤣....baat toh sahi hai.....Katha se better name for her would have been Gyaani Maata😆.

Waise toh most FLs on ITV have this keeda of going around giving lectures and preaching to everyone but it grates more in this show cuz they otherwise like to claim this isn't a typical show with melodrama etc. etc....but in Katha's case, they do seem infected with the usual norms of ITV ki jaake sabko lecture dete raho acting like you alone know everything.

She is normal and happy with Aarav, Dodo, Ehsan and the rest of her office colleagues I guess. She reserves this extra nagging/preachy mode for Viaan 😆
