Part 4:

Kasturi reached her house and ran inside. She was panting heavily eventhough she had come in a taxi.

'Arey kasturi puttar? Tu itni jaldi ghar aa gayi?' asked kaushalya walking upto kasturi and stroking her head softly 'Aaj teri meeting thi na tho phir?'

Kasturi caught her breath and said 'ji maa woh jaldi khatam ho gaye thi tho socha ke ghar aa jao'

She didn't want to tell her mum the truth. She didn't know how to, what would she say?!

'Acha kiya puttar, tu ja, jakar mou haath dole mein tere liye kuch khaane ko laathi ho'

'Nahi maa, bhook nahi hai bas thora thak gaye ho. Mein apne kamre mein jaakar araam karthi ho' said kasturi holding her head

'Theek hai puttar, jab bhook lage gi tho niche aa jana huh?'

Kasturi nodded and proceeded towards the stairs. She reached her bedroom and locked the door and then sat on the bed and breathed heavily. She was taking in the all the happenings of today. Nothing like this had ever happened to her in her life.

'Jabse usse milli ho thab se mere saath kuch na kuch hotha raha hai' she thought to herself

'Kahin isme bhi uska haath tho nahi....' she pondered

'Nahi nahi woh aise nahi kar saktha' she said brushing her thoughts away

'Lekin....ho bhi saktha hai...usne subah bhi tho....'

Kasturi was very confused she didn't know what to think, what to do

'Ab mein kal devika ma'am ko kya jawaab doogi...ke meine meeting beech mein chor di...'

'hai rabba kya karo' she said looking up at the ceiling with her hands in the air waiting for an answer.

After much thinking and getting no answer kasturi fell asleep. She had been through too much today, she was tired mentally and physically.

The next morning kasturi got ready in her lilac churidhar suit, wore matching jewellery with light make-up and threw her dupatta round her neck. She came downstairs took everyone's blessings, ate her breakfast and left. She arrived at SS mansion, took a deep breath and went in. She wasn't sure what was in stock for her today but still decided to go inside with much courage.

'Ao kasturi main tumhara hi intezaar kar rahi thi' said devika sitting on the sofa with her back to kasturi, reading a newspaper.

Kasturi walked upto her and said 'ji ma'am mera..'

Devika put the newspaper down, stood up and marched towards kasturi. Kasturi stood rooted to the ground. Devika looked quite angry which made kasturi even more nervous.

'How could you be so unprofessional kasturi!!!' blasted devika 'is tarah meeting ko beech mein chorke tum chali ayi...ye bhi nahi socha ke humare contract ka kya hoga!'

'Ma'am woh...' stammered kasturi

'Woh kya huh?!'

By this time Robbie had come out of his room hearing all the noise.

'Tum is tarah waha se cheekthe chilathi hoyi baagh ayi, do you even know how embarrassing it is' bellowed devika

Kasturi just looked down whilst Robbie was enjoying himself. He leaned forward and rested his arms on the rail smiling away enjoying each and every bit of it.

'Tum samajh thi kya ho apne aap ko kasturi! Tum chothe logo ki yehi problem hothi hai...'

By now kasturi had tears welling up in her eyes; she was still looking down trying very hard not to cry.

'...zara sa tumhari tareef kardo tho tum log ke par nikal aathe hai, tum log sar pe char jaathe ho..apne aapko malik samjh ne lagthe ho' continued devika shouting in a rude tone

Kasturi started sobbing quietly whereas robbie's grin was getting wider by each second.

'Tumhe patha hai agar Robbie nahi hotha tho ye contract tho humare haath se nikal jaatha'

'How could you be so careless kasturi? You know, mein tumhe tumhari is galthi ke liye abhi isi waqt fire kar sakhthi ho'

Kasturi shot her head up and looked at devika with her tear filled pleading eyes

'Please ma'am aise math kijeye...' sobbed kasturi with her hands folded in front of devika

Robbie was getting even more excited. He went to find raunak to tell him the good news. He spotted him outside and went there.

'Raunak mere yaar' Robbie said hugging raunak!

'Arey kya baat hai, bara khush lag raha hai?!' he said breaking the hug

'Haan yaar khush hone ki hi tho baath hai!' he said dancing

'Arey aisa kya hogaya?!' asked raunak

'Tujhe patha hai mom ne kasturi ko naukri se nikaal diya!' he said excitedly

Back inside SS mansion:

'Please ma'am, please aap mujhe is naukri se nahi nikaliye, mujhe iski bohat zaroorat hai, please ma'am please' she said. Kasturi was now crying very much, she was on her knees pleading devika with her folded hands.

'Kasturi get up and stop crying please' said devika calming down and helping kasturi stand up.

'I said i can fire you but i'm not going to' she said

Kasturi looked up at devika.

'Kyunki yeh tumhari pehli galti hai aur yeh contract hume phir bhi mil gaya isleye is dafa mein tumhe maaf kar dethi ho lekin agar aage se aisa kuch huwa...u better understand!' said devika

'Thank you ma'am thank you so much. Mein aapko yakeen dilaathi ho ke ainda aise nahi hoga' she said wiping her tears with the back of her hand.

'I hope so too kasturi. You may leave now' said devika

Kasturi smiled at devika and started leaving feeling very relieved that she hadn't lost her job.

'Er kasturi...' said devika. Kasturi turned around and said

'Ji ma'am?'

'I'm sorry agar meine tumhe zyaada bol diya.' She said

'It's okay ma'am' kasturi replied politely. They both exchanged smiles and kasturi walked away.

Meanwhile back outside:

'Kya?' said raunak in shock. 'Aise kaise?'

'Arey yaar agar Robbie kuch chahe aur woh nahi ho aisa kabhi ho sakhtha hai kya' he said proudly

'Matlab...is sab mein tera haath hai Robbie?' said raunak looking slightly worried.

'Ofcourse yaar...us kasturi ki tho meine itni bezthi karwai ke woh zindagi bhar yaad rakhi gi ke kis rahees se pala parha tha!'

'Tune aisa kya kar diya yaar? Asked raunak worriedly.

Robbie explained the whole thing to him with a huge grin. There was no limits to his happiness.

'Kyun kaisa raha?' said Robbie bouncing his eyebrows

Raunak didn't say anything he just stared.

'Oye raunak kidhar kho gaya' he said waving his hand in front of his face

'Woh...' said raunak

'Kyaa?' said Robbie

'Woh...tere peeche...' said raunak pointing behind Robbie

'Mere peeche?' said Robbie and turned around to see an absolutely shattered and shocked kasturi. Robbie didn't know what to do, he just stood there.

Kasturi stormed upto him and stood right in front of him. There was an awkard silence for a few moments. They were both looking at each other.

'Tishhhhhhhhhhhhh' kasturi slapped Robbie. The sound of the slap echoed, there was no other noise, everything was silent. He held his cheek and turned his face looking at kasturi with his angry eyes. But the anger in his eyes was nothing compared to that in kasturi's.

'Aap samajh the kya hai apne aap ko?' she yelled. 'Bohat khushi ho rahi ho gi na aapko ke jo aap keh rahe the woh aapne kar dikhaya! Wah Mr Robbie Sabharwal wah?! Kya badla liya mujhse? Theek keh rahe the aap, mein ye zindagi bhar nahi bhool sakthi. Mein yeh zindagi bhar nahi bhool sakthi ke mein aap jaise neech aadmi se milli, uske saath kaam kiya.' Kasturi was furious. She had never been so mad at anyone. There were tears flowing from her eyes due to the anger and frustration she had but also as she was very hurt. Robbie looked at her angrily.

'Aap chahthe hai na ke mein ye naukri chor do? Aapko meri shakal se nafrat hai na? Theek hai chor do gi ye naukri...waise bhi main aap jaise insaan ke saath kaam karna bhi nahi chahthi jo kisi ki izzat nahi kartha ho.' And with this she walked off.

Robbie just stood there furiously watching kasturi run away without looking back. Raunak came up to Robbie and put his hand on his shoulder.

'Tu theek hai na?!' he asked him gently. Robbie looked at him and took his hand off his shoulder and went inside to his room.

A few moments later raunak came into his room. Robbie was playing the drums angrily. Raunak walked upto him and again put his hand on robbie's shoulder.

Robbie stopped playing the drums.

'Woh ladki samajh thi kya hai apne aapko?' he said angrily standing up. 'Uski himmat kaise hoi mujhe, Robbie sabharwal ko thapar marne ki! How dare she!' he shouted

'robbie...' said raunak

'upar se kehthi hai "mein yeh job chor dehthi ho" arey yaar mom ne tho usko pehle se hi job se nikaal diya that ho phir!'

'Sirf dikhawa raunak, dikhawa. In chothe logo ki yehi problem hothi hai. Woh do take ki ladki mujhe kya kya bol gi aur mein chup chap khara raha. Isko mein ab nahi choro ga. Lagtha hai itne mein isko samajh nahi aya. Ab mein us....'

'Stop it Robbie!' yelled raunak. Robbie looked at him thinking what.

'Tu jaantha bhi hai tu kya bol raha hai!' said raunak

'Kya bol raha ho..sahi hi tho keh raha ho. Us ladki ko tho mein...'

'kya karega huh? Kya karega jo kiya woh kaafi nahi tha kya? Uska anjaam tune dekh liya na. Ab kya karega tu huh?

'Tu uski side kyu le raha raunak tune dekha na us mamoli ladki ne mujhe kaise thapar maara, she slapped me, Robbie sabharwal.'

'Tune bhi jo uske sath kiya woh kam nahi tha Robbie'

'Arey aisa kya kar diya maine jo itna akhar dikha rahi thi. Upar se mujhe suna thi hai ke woh yeh job chor rahi hai kyunki usko mere saath kaam nahi karna. Natak hai sab natak, ye chothe log hothe hi hai nautanki raunak.'

'Chup kar Robbie usne koi nautanki nahi ki'

'Kyun jab mom ne usko pehle se job se nikaal diya tha tho phir...'

'Devika aunty ne usko nahi nikaala!' shouted Raunak

'What?!' exclaimed Robbie

'Haan mein abhi devika aunty se baat karke aa raha ho. Devika aunty ne kasturi ko job se nahi nikaala!'

'What i don't understand, lekin jab mein bahir aya tho mom...' Robbie said

'Woh kasturi ko sirf warn kar rahi thi. Patha hai teri wajah se yeh important contract humare haath se jaa saktha tha aur devika aunty ne usko zimedaar tehraya.' Explained raunak

Robbie didn't know what to say. He just looked at raunak confused.

'Phir kasturi ne...' Robbie managed to say

'Usne jo bhi kaha apne khosh mein kaha. Tujhe niche dikhaane ke liye nahi. Woh bohat khudaar ladki hai robbie. Naukri gavade gi lekin apni izzat kabhi nahi beche gi.' Said raunak

Robbie sat on his bed; he was feeling slightly guilty, only slightly.

'Yaar woh ek middle class family se hai. Is kism ki cheese usko bohat affect karthi hai. Woh ye job sirf apne parivaar ke liye kar rahi thi. Ye job uski majboori hai aur yaar tune uski majboori ka fyda uthaya. Woh yeh kabhi nahi bhool paygi.' Said raunak

Robbie sat on his bed in silence. Raunak left his room leaving Robbie in deep thoughts. He was feeling guilty now, very guilty.

'Mom ne usko nahi nikaala woh khud...' thought Robbie to himself.

Meanwhile kasturi had reached her house. She went into her room, threw her handbag and fell on her bed crying. She was deeply hurt. This job meant alot to her but not more than her self respect. She didn't know what to do, she was too drained out. She eventually fell asleep crying reflecting on all the happenings of today.

Whilst Robbie there was still in his own thoughts. He couldn't stop thinking about raunak's words

"Devika aunty ne usko nahi nikaala!" raunak's words echoed in robbie's ears

"aap chahthe hai na ke mein ye naukri chor do? Aapko meri shakal se nafrat hai na? Theek hai chor do gi ye naukri...waise bhi main aap jaise insaan ke saath kaam karna bhi nahi chahthi jo kisi ki izzat nahi kartha ho." Kasturi's words echoed in his ears.

Raunak's and kasturi's words kept echoing in his ears which were adding to his guilt and confusion. He covered his ears to block the sounds; he couldn't find any answers to his thoughts so finally drifted away into a deep sleep hoping everything will be back to normal tomorrow.

The next morning, Robbie woke up quite early and decided to go to work. He reached his office at 8am. Everyone was surprised to see him there and that too so early. As he walked in everyone got up and greeted him good morning in shock. He very politely responded to their greetings and walked upto the reception desk.

'Rita, kasturi ko bolo mere cabin mein aye' said Robbie to the receptionist and was about to head to his cabin when..

'Par sir, kasturi ma'am abhi thak aye nahi' she said

Robbie stopped and remembered yesterday's happenings. He thought to himself 'kahin kasturi ne sach mein naukri tho...'

'Woh 9 baje aathi hai' interuppted the receptionist before Robbie could complete his thought.

Robbie breathed a sigh of relief as he hoped that she'll be here after an hour.

'Okay theek hai jab woh aye mujhe bata dena' he said to the recptioinst.

'Okay sir' she said and Robbie again started heading to his cabin when Rita called him again

'Sir...' he turned around

'What is it Rita?'

'Sir woh aap yaha pe...aur woh bhi itni jaldi?' she asked with a hint of nervousness

'Woh...' said Robbie. He thought for a bit 'woh mujhe kuch kaam tha....aur waise bhi tum kaun hothi ho mujhe poochne wali? Ye mera office hai me kab ao kab jao ise tumko koi lena dena nahi chahiye okay. Apne kaam pe dyaan do' he said getting angry

'Sorry sir' she replied

He walked off in anger and entered his cabin and sat on the leather chair.

'Mein kyun aya ho yaha pe?' he asked himself. he didn't know the answer to this question himself. 'shayad kal jo huwa....mein kasturi se maaf....nahi nahi' he brushed his thoughts away 'mein use kyu maafi mango ga, meine kya kiya hai. Maafi tho usko maangni chahiye, usne mujhe thapar maara hai'. He said 'haan mein isleye office aya ho, use maafi magwane' he said trying to assure himself that that was the reason of his restlessness although he wasn't convinced.

In his thoughts he didn't realise the time until he got a call from raunak which startled him.

'Hello, kaha hai tu?' asked raunak

'Mein office mein ho yaar' said Robbie

'Kya office mein?' asked a startled raunak

'haan woh kuch kaam tha tho socha...'

'Kaam aur tujhe aur woh bhi office mein...itni jaldi?' wah lagtha hai kasturi ke thapar ka tujhe zor ka jhatka laga hai' he said giggling.

Hearing kasturi's name he looked at the clock 'mein tujhse baad mein baat kartha ho raunak'

'Arey par sun tho...' Robbie disconnected the phone and from his cabin phone phoned the reception.

'Hello rita, kasturi ko ander behjo.' He said

'Par sir, kasturi ma'am abhi thak nahi ayi.' She said

'What?' he said looking at his watch. '10 baj rahe hai aur kasturi abhi thak nahi ayi?' he asked

'Ji sir patha nahi, usually tho woh time pe poonch jaati hai aaj patha nahi kya hogaya' she said

'Okay' said Robbie disappointed and put the phone down. He was feeling upset and had a hint of fear in his mind.

'What if kasturi ne...' he thought.

He sat in his cabin for some more hours in deep thoughts when a phone call interrupted him.

'Hello?' he said

'Kaha ho tum Robbie?' asked devika

'Woh mein...abhi ghar aa raha ho mom' he said and disconnected his phone, grabbed his jacket and walked out.

The next day he again went to his office early hoping that kasturi would be there today but his hopes would again break. The same routine followed for the next two days. He would go office early in the morning, wait for kasturi for hours, remain in deep thoughts and then return back home disappointed in the evening.

On the fourth day he was sitting in his room thinking.

'Kasturi 4 din se kaam pe nahi ayi. Kahi usne sach mein tho ye job nahi chordi kya?' he wondered.

'Chor di tho chor di, tu kyu itna soch raha hai robbie' he said to himself. 'Tu tho yehi chahtha tha na ke woh ye job chorde tho phir itna soch kyun raha hai uske bade mein...tujhe kya farak partha hai woh aye ya nahi aye'

He was trying to wrestle from his weird thoughts and feelings. He was trying to make himself understand that kasturi's absence doesn't affect him, infact he was happy about it, but was he really happy? Being unsuccessful from fighting with his thoughts he decided to ask devika about kasturi. Maybe she knew about her whereabouts.

'Mom...' he said standing at the door of devika's room. She was sitting on the chair reading a novel

'Arey Robbie, aao na kya baat hai?' said devika putting the book down and taking her glasses off.

'Woh...' hesitated Robbie

'Kya?' asked devika

'Woh mein...'

'kya baat hai Robbie kuch kehne aye the kya?'

'nahi woh..haan...woh...nahi...' he stammered nervously

'Robbie kya huwa?'

'Nahi woh mein....mein poochne ne aya tha ke...aapki tabeeyat tho theek hai na mom' he finally managed to blurt out. He didn't know how to ask devika about kasturi. What would she think, what if she found out about what happened between Robbie and kasturi.

'Meri tabeeyat?' asked devika confused 'meri tabeeyat ko kya hona hai Robbie, tum theek tho hai na kaise sawaal pooch rahe ho'

'Nahi woh waise hi maine socha kaafi dino se aapki tabeeyat ka nahi poocha tho...'

'Huh? Main tho theek ho Robbie lekin tum kuch theek nahi lagrahe? Sab theek tho hai na?' asked devika

'huh? Yes mom. Im fine mujhe kya ho sakhtha im perfectly rocking.' He said trying to look normal

'Acha? Lag tho nahi raha?' she said walking upto him

'Nahi mom woh bas....'

'er ka...s....tu...ri....' he managed to say quietly

'arey haan..' said devika cutting him off 'main tumhe patana hi bhool gayi. Kasturi ki tabeeyat theek nahi hai tho usne ek hafthe ki chothi li hai'

Robbie felt slightly relieved; one because devika didn't know anything that happened between them that day and two, that maybe kasturi didn't quit her job. But at the same time he was getting slightly worried "kasturi ki tabeet theek nahi hai" he thought.

'Robbie...robbie?' said devika waving her hand in front of Robbie

'Huh?'

'Kya huwa?'

'Kuch nahi mom, kuch nahi' and he walked out of devika's room

'Ajeeb ladka hai' thought devika and opened her novel again.

Robbie went back to his room and started thinking...again! (kitna soch tha hai ye Robbie 😆)

'Kasturi ki tabeeyat theek nahi hai?' he thought.
