"Hi, Mr and Mrs Sabharwal. Aaj ki test sirf check karenga ke tumhari pregnancy main koi complications nahi hain. Pehle hum ultrasound dekhenge."

She lay down on the bed, Robbie clutching her hand for comfort.

"Mubarak ho, Kasturi. Tumhe larki hogi. Dekho, unki haath dekhsakti ho?"

"Aaah kitne pyaare hain," gushed Kasturi.

"Ab hum thoda sa khoon lehnge'bas, aur phir tum dono jaasakte ho. Results kal tak aajayenge."

"Shukriya, doctor."

"Jee, shukriya."

"Bye Kasturi, mein tumhe bahut miss karoongi," complained Shaina tearily.

"Aisa kyun bolrahi ho, Shaina? Mein hamesha ke liye thodi jaa rahi hoon. Par promise, tum mujhe ghar ya hospital aake miloongi

"Baka promise, Kasturi, bakaa. Acchha, Kasturi, yeh tumhare liye present hain."

"Waah Shaina, kitna pyaara hain!" exclaimed Kasturi, opening the wrapping to find a petite yellow-and-blue striped sleepsuit. Her boss, Mr Gupta walked over and handed her a box of chocolates.

"Aur jaldi waapas aana. Tumhari kami sabko mehsoos hogi. Best of luck," he declared.

"Good luck, Kasturi. I hope tum khush aur thandroos rahegi," smiled Minesh.

"Acchha, ab cake!" cheered Shaina.

"Cake bhi? Iski kya zaroo-" began Kasturi.

"Zaroorat thi. Ab chalo cake kaat. Tumhaara favourite hain. Fruitcake," ordered Shaina. Amidst cheers, Kasturi cut the cake and fed a piece to each colleague, as they took truns laoding her with gifts and hearty wishes.

"Robbie, tumne hamari beti ke liye koi naam socha hain?

"Mujhe toh Chandni, Sangeeta, Saamiya ya Ishika bahut pasand hain."

"Mujhe yeh naam bhi bahut acchha laga, khaas kar Saamiya. Mujhe Roshni naam bhi bahut pasand hain."

"OK, Kasturi, aaj ke baat tum koi kaam nahi karoongi.

"Thoda sa toh kar-

"Kasturi, kaam se chooti lehne ka matlab yeh nahi hain ke tum ghar aake saare kaam karna shuru kardo.

"Par Robbie, mein saara din baithe baithe bored hojaaoongi

"Bored kaise? Mom ya mein ghar par hoge. Humhe agar koi kaam hoga toh tum kisi ko phone karlo. Prachi yah Meher, yah Shaina..bahut saare log hain. Aur agar tumhe phir bhi tassali nahin mili toh mujhe phone kardo. Mein tumhare saath phone par pura din baat karsakta hoon.

"Theek hain, Robbie. Waise bhi tum maanewaale nahi ho.

"Kasturi, tum maa bannewaali ho. Aise haalat mein tumhaara dyaan rakhna mera farz bhi hain, aur mera pasand bhi."

"Hi, Meher, prachi, tum dono itni jaldi kyun aagayi hain? Godh barhai shaam ko hain, na?"

"Haan, auntyji, magar Kasturi ko tayaar karna hain, hain na?"

"Haan, haan, tum theek kehrahi ho. Rukho, mein zevar laati hoon. Sari kamre mein hain. Maine kareedha tha. Waise, tum dono bhi bahut acchhi lagrahi ho. Aur matching colours bhi pehna hain. Dance ki wajah se?"

"Jee, mummyji. Humne socha ke hum sab saali aur saheli matching saris pehnlehnge."

"Bahut pyaari lagrahi ho. Theek hain, tum dono jaldi se Kasturi ke paas jaao."

Chapter 39 ~ Aayi hain bahaarein aayi hain (english)

3 months later

"Hi, Mr and Mrs Sabharwal. Today's test is just to check there are no complications in your pregnancy. First we'll see the ultrasound."

She lay down on the bed, Robbie clutching her hand for comfort. The doctor passed the sensor over her stomach and a monochrome, moving image appeared on the screen.

"Congratulations, Kasturi. You'll have a girl. Look, can you see her little hands?"

"Aaah how sweet," gushed Kasturi.

"Now we'll take a little blood..enough, and now you two can go. The results will come by tomorrow."

"Thank you, doctor."

"Yes, thank you."

"Bye Kasturi, I'll miss you a lot," complained Shaina tearily.

"Why are you talking like that, Shaina? I'm hardly going forever. But promise, you'll come and visit me at home or the hospital."

"Definite promise, Kasturi, promise. OK, Kasturi, this is a present for you."

"Waah Shaina, it's so cute!" exclaimed Kasturi, opening the wrapping to find a petite yellow-and-blue striped sleepsuit. Her boss, Mr Gupta walked over and handed her a box of chocolates.

"And come back quickly. We'll all feel your absence. Best of luck," he declared.

"Good luck, Kasturi. I hope you'll stay happy and healthy," smiled Minesh.

"OK, now cake!" cheered Shaina.

"Cake too? What was the need fo-" began Kasturi.

"There was a need. Now come and cut the cake. It's your favourite. Fruitcake," ordered Shaina. Amidst cheers, Kasturi cut the cake and fed a piece to each colleague, as they took turns loading her with gifts and hearty wishes.

"Robbie, what names have you thought of for our daughter?

"I like Chandni, Sangeeta, Saamiya or Ishika a lot."

"I think all those names are nice, especially Saamiya. I also really like Roshni."

"OK, Kasturi, from today you'll do no work."

"I can atleast do a lit-"

"Kasturi, you didn't take leave from your work so that you can start doing all the housework instead."

"But Robbie, I'll get bored sitting at home all day," she protested.

"Bored how? Mom or me will be at home. If we have some work then you can phone someone. Prachi or Meher, or Shaina..there's lots of people. And if you're still not content then you can phone me. I can talk to you all day."

"Fine, Robbie. As it is you're not going to give in."

"Kasturi, you're expecting. Taking care of you in this situation is both my duty, and my wish too."

"Yes, auntyji, but we have to get Kasturi ready, right?"

"Yes, mummyji. We thought that all us friends should wear matching saris."
