Chapter 6: Making Things Right.

Prerna sat in bed with Mr. Bajaj's voice ringing in her head. She felt anger and rage towards Mr. Bajaj. How can someone be so rude? Why did he have to say these horrible things? He doesn't know what he is talking about. Her brain denied it all. But her heart knew. It was heavy. She cried her heart out that night. His voice still echoed in her head, "Aap revenge Sneha ki maut ka lena chahti thi na? Toh ab ku kar rahi hai yeh sab?"

"I wanted revenge for Sneha. But somewhere inside did I also want revenge for myself?" Her eyes widened listening to her heart cry - Yes. This revenge was for her as well. Anurag had pretended to love her all this time. He had rejected her love in the worst way possible. He had turned her love into a joke. She wanted revenge for all that. But why? Was Mr. Bajaj right? Did she still love Anurag? "No." she said out loud. "I can't love a man who tried to kill me." she told herself. "Toh fir ku main abtak uske baare mein sochti hu? Mere ander uske liye itni nafrat hai ki main aur kuch nahi dekh paayi. I have my daughter back but I still dream about destroying Anurag every night. How did I become so cold? Why do I want him to come crawling to me? Do I want him back?" Even the thought of Anurag close to her repelled her. She actually did hate Anurag. She cringed at her own thoughts. "No. Never. Then why do I want to destroy him? What will I get by harboring such hatred towards him? Mr. Bajaj is right. I'm just destroying myself in this whole process and he--" She stopped talking to herself. She was doing it again, she realised. She was focussing on Anurag again. Why? This is what Mr. Bajaj was talking about. "Why do I always think about Anurag?"

"How did I never think about why Mr. Bajaj did what he did? He motivated me to change my life around. He gave me reason to live when I had given up. He showed me that I'm not weak and I can be a fantastic businesswoman. He taught me how to stand on my own feet which somewhere I had forgotten. I had made Anurag my life and forgotten that I too had an individual life to live. That's why maybe God showed me how I was nothing when Anurag threw me off the bridge. I had nowhere to go. If it wasn't for Mr. Bajaj then what would I have done? How easily Anurag could discard me. I had never thought about my aims, my goals or what I was capable of, it was like all that mattered was him and his love. With Anurag it was always about him, his family, his problems. In all this I had forgotten who I was. Mr. Bajaj made me realise who I really am! But... why?

She remembered the day when Mr. Bajaj had held her tightly, stopping her from entering the burning orphanage. He had held her so tight when she just wanted to die. Why? Her brain questioned. How did he care what happened to me? For Kukki? She asked herself. No. That doesn't make sense. She sat there thinking about all those moments in those 8 years where he had consoled her, motivated her, scolded her, given her a reason to live. And she came back to the question. Why? Prerna felt like an idiot. How had she never thought of this before. Mr. Bajaj was right. She was so blinded in her need for revenge that she had never once thought of him. She had never wondered how he feels or why he was doing so much for her. She thought about the moment when he told Sneha that he was her father. Why? She asked herself again. He had always been there without any expectations without asking her for anything. "Yeh rishta shuru Kukki ke wajah se zarur hua tha par ab.." she knew she was missing something.

Prerna recalled Mr. Bajaj saving her life by pulling her out of the water. He is a genuinely nice person. If it would have been any one else he would have probably saved their life too. But after that not letting me go in front of Anurag that day, helping me look for Sneha, holding me while I cried for my daughter's death. Giving me a reason to live. He didn't need to do that. And he wouldn't have done this for anyone else. She was sure about it. She remembered them getting married the second time. Was he genuinely fulfilling every responsibility of a husband? Did he do all this to be a good husband to me? To give me the respect that I deserved in my own eyes? And was I a good wife? Today I called myself his wife but he was right, I've never fulfilled my duties of a wife. I was a mother but never a wife to him. I never asked him how he felt? What he wanted from his life? I was still busy running after Anurag. I must have made him feel so awful and that is why today he said all this. He showed me the mirror once again. I am trying to destroy the person who treated me like I was nothing and I completely overlooked the person who, since the day I met him, has always respected my views and wants, and always encouraged me to do everything I was capable of.

Prerna felt miserable. Maine 'shaadi' shabd ko hi mazak bana diya. She realised. She recalled the dutiful daughter she used to be. She recalled how much she used to value relations and today she had neglected the purest bond a man and woman shared - marriage. She had failed as a wife while Mr. Bajaj had always excelled as a husband. He had done everything for her, made sure she gets what she wants, and what had she done? She had just leaned on him for her convenience. How can she be so irresponsible. She gulped. She decided to be a better wife. She would start with an apology to Mr. Bajaj early in the morning. He was right about it all and she had been so wrong all this while.

She looked at Sneha who slept near her. She looked so peaceful. She didn't need a second thought to know that she wanted Mr. Bajaj to be Sneha's father. She wanted a bright future for her daughter. She promised Sneha to always protect her and always keep her happy. She promised to give her daughter all the love that she deserved. She had to stop her revenge. Revenge was putting her whole family at risk. It was putting her daughter at risk. She would talk to Mr. Bajaj tomorrow morning itself. She had decided. She wanted to move back to London. She decided she would make everything better. She would start afresh.

*

The next morning Rishabh got ready very early. It was just 7 am and he was dressed. He was hoping to leave before Prerna came out of her room. He didn't want to see her. He knew he had said a lot of things last night which would have hurt her a lot but he didn't want to take any of it back. He peeped into Kukki's room and saw her peacefully asleep. He shut the door and was about to leave when he saw Prerna walk towards him. She was still in last night's clothes. He looked at her eyes and realised that she had been crying. He sighed. His heart sank in his chest but he didn't care at all.

"Mr. Bajaj woh--" Prerna was cut by his cold voice.

"Mujhe kuch zaruri kaam hai," he said, "I'll see you later."

He walked past her and out of the house. Prerna exhaled. She would try and talk to him at work. She decided to go to work early so she could speak to Mr. Bajaj and apologize. She rushed into the washroom to freshen up.

*

Sneha was very upset with Rishabh. He hadn't even met her before going to work. He had come late from office. She decided to call him and express her anger. She picked up Prerna's phone while she was in the kitchen and dialed Mr. Bajaj's number. There was no answer. She called again. Still no answer.

Kukki who had just woken up came to the dining table looking for Rishabh too. "Dad kaha hai?" she asked Sneha.

"Kukki di, papa office chale gaye." she said grumpily. "Mujhse mile bhi nahi."

Kukki smiled at her and sat next to her. "Mujhse bhi nahi mile." she twitched her lips.

"Maine phone bhi try kiya unka. Unhone nahi uthaya." Sneha complained. "Main unse bilkul baat nahi karungi."

Kukki giggled. "Esa mat karo Sneha, unhe pata nahi hoga ki tum call kar rahi ho. Lo unhe mere phone se call karlo. Dad mera phone hamesha uthate hai." she said patting her little sister's head. She knew Rishabh was upset with Prerna but she also knew that he might feel better talking to Sneha. She also wanted to make sure if Rishabh was okay.

Sneha took the phone from Kukki and called Rishabh. Rishabh answered on the second ring.

"Hello," Sneha said in an angry tone.

"Kukki?" Mr. Bajaj asked. That didn't sound like her.

"Main Sneha bol rahi hu." she said.

Mr. Bajaj had no hard feelings with Sneha. He would still be her father for as long as she wanted. But he would never deny the fact that Anurag was her biological father. He never wanted to forget that, it was a fact. "Hi." he said

"Main aapse bohot naraz hu," Sneha said making a face. Kukki looked at Sneha and remembered her childhood days with Rishabh.

"Ku? Kya kiya maine?" He asked playing along.

"Aap mere se mile bina hi chale gaye." She complained innocently.

"Beta, mujhe kuch important kaam tha isliye main aa gaya. Kal pakka aapse milunga."

"Kal? Nahi aaj. Aaj mere school ki chhuti hai. Mumma bhi office chali jayegi abhi. Main ghar pe kya karungi?"

"Acha, toh Sneha bore ho jayegi akele." Rishabh thought about it. "Aap nani ke ghar chale jao." He said finding a logical solution immediately.

"Nahi mujhe aapke saath khelna hai!" Sneha argued.

"I'm busy beta." Rishabh tried to explain.

"Aapne promise kiya tha ki aap mere saath khelenge ab aap apna promise break nahi kar sakte." Sneha sounded like she would cry. Prerna sat on the table and signaled Kukki asking her who was Sneha talking to. Kukki mouthed the words 'dad'. Prerna looked at Sneha, worried. She hoped the Mr. Bajaj didn't take out his anger on Sneha. She wouldn't be able to take it.

"Sneha! Zidd mat karo. Main aapse ghar aake baat karta hu." He declared.

Sneha handed the phone to Kukki and left the table. She was angry with her papa.

"Hello?" Kukki said taking the phone. "Dad?"

"Haan." he replied.

"Dad aap aa rahe ho ghar?" she asked slightly hopeful. It was a holiday and even she was free.

"Samajh nahi aata tum bacho ko!" Rishabh scolded. "Ek hi baat ki zidd lagayi hui hai!"

"Sorry dad." she said immediately. She didn't want to upset him more than he was.

Rishabh cut the call feeling bad. He unnecessarily scolded Kukki. He sighed thinking about what to do.

*

Prerna looked at Kukki remembering last night. Kukki had heard everything. What would she be thinking of Prerna? "Kukki," Prerna said not knowing where she was going with the conversation. "Prerna, please dad ke baaton ka burra mat maano." She said immediately looking apologetic. "Tum toh jaanti ho ki unhe jaldi gussa aa jata hai. He was probably just having a bad day aur unhone tumse yeh sab keh diya. I'm sure he didn't mean it." Kukki said trying to cover up for Rishabh.

Prerna lifted her eyebrow. "Oh matlab ab tum bhi apne dad ki side logi?" she asked, smile forming on her lips seeing Kukki so cutely defending Mr. Bajaj.

"Nahi, main unki side nahi le rahi. Bas, woh--"I know Kukki. Woh bohot upset hai mujhse." She said looking down. "But don't worry. Main unse baat kar lungi. I will fix this." She said determined.

Kukki nodded and smiled. She knew Prerna would understand. Prerna sighed, "Tum please Sneha ke paas jao, woh bhi thodi upset hai. I have some work to do and Mr. Bajaj se bhi baat karni hai mujhe."

Kukki nodded and went to the room to talk to Sneha. She was feeling quite awkward because she didn't know what to say. She hadn't spoken to Sneha too much since she had come.

Sneha was sitting on her bed looking at her teddy. She looked up when Kukki sat in front of her.

"Pata hai, jab main choti thi, toh dad mujhse kabhi kabhi 1-2 weeks tak nahi milte the." Kukki said pouting.

"Sachi?" Sneha asked, suddenly very interested in her story.

"Haan, woh kaam mein itne busy the ki unhe time hi nahi milta tha." she said.

"Toh aap unse gussa nahi hoti thi?" Sneha asked.

"Bohot gussa hoti thi. Par woh jab wapas aate the toh mujhe bohot bada sa hug dete the and fir mera sara gussa gayab ho jata tha." she said.

Sneha smiled. She hoped that Rishabh would come and give her a hug too.

Anurag was quite confused this morning. He had kept quiet the previous day but all night he was restless thinking who was saying the truth? Was Sneha his daughter or Mr. Bajaj's? Was Komolika going crazy in her hatred towards Prerna or was Prerna lying to him. Prerna wouldn't say anything so he decided to trick Komolika into telling him.

"Mujhe sab pata chal gaya hai," he told Komolika as he barged in her room in the morning.

"Kya baby?" She asked surprised to see him in her room. He hardly ever came to her.

"Prerna ne mujhe sab bata diya hai ki kese tumne Sneha ko maarne ki koshish ki!" He said raising his voice. He was fuming.

"Oh!" Komolika sighed. "Toh Prerna se milne gaye the tum kal." she said rolling her eyes. He would definitely have to pay for this. "Iska matlab kya main samjhu ki woh tumhari life mein wapas aa gayi hai? I still have the video of her. Mujhe 2 minute lagega usse Police ko dene mein." she said.

Anurag was furious at her. She always kept holding that one piece of evidence against him. How he wished he could just kill her himself. He cursed his morals. "Tum shayad jaanti nahi par Sneha--"Tumhari beti hai?" Komolika completed his sentence smirking. "Ofcourse, Prerna ne bata diya hoga tumhe. Aur tumhe kya lagta hai mujhe nahi pata hoga? Komolika Basu hu main, I know everything!" She said gritting her teeth.

Anurag pretended to look shocked. "Tumhe kese pata?" he asked.

Komolika smirked. She opened her cupboard and took out an envelope. "Maine Sneha ke paida hote hi uska Paternity test karvaya tha. Tumhare DNA se. I needed to be sure before I planned my move. I had hoped ki woh Mr. Bajaj ki bachi ho taaki mujhe kuch zyada nahi karna pade.. but sadly, woh tumhari bachi nikli. So I was left with no option but to put an end to this!" She said throwing the envelope at Anurag.

Just what Anurag needed. Now Prerna couldn't stop him from meeting Sneha. She couldn't stop him from giving her the love she deserved. He wondered how she would have lived all these years without her father. He wanted to see her, to hold her, to love her. Tears filled his eyes.

Suddenly everything seemed so clear. He knew what he had to do. He knew that it was time to tell Prerna the truth. He couldn't let his daughter be in danger. Sneha was a living, breathing proof of his love for Prerna. He didn't want Basu industries, he didn't want Basu Bari, he didn't care. He just wanted his daughter to be happy and safe and he knew that till Komolika was in his life she would never let Sneha live in peace. He knew Komolika wouldn't rest until she had harmed Sneha. He couldn't let that happen. It was time to put an end to Komolika.

*

Prerna reached office. She had got Mr. Bajaj's breakfast with her. She knew that he hadn't eaten anything since morning. She also knew that he wouldn't agree to eat right now also without a fight. HE could be really stubborn. She took a deep breath and entered his cabin. She was ready for a fight. But it was empty.

She went to her cabin and that was empty too. She called his secretary and found out that Mr. Bajaj had gone home. He said he would reach his 4 o'clock meeting directly from home. She sighed. Ofcourse, how could he break his daughter's heart? A smile formed on her lips as she started to picture a future with him for the first time. She could imagine Sneha and Kukki so happy with their dad but she couldn't imagine her with Mr. Bajaj for some reason. She was standing there looking at the kids playing with Mr. Bajaj but his eyes were fixed on Prerna. He was trying to say something but she couldn't understand what. Her phone rang breaking her trance, a dream she wanted to see again.

"Good morning Mr. Mehra, woh documents jo maine aapko ready karne bole the woh ho gaye? I want it done a little fast." She said on the phone.

"Ma'am are you sure? Ek baar sir se puch lete toh--"KB group ki chairperson main hu. And I need this done immediately." she said not letting Mr. Mehra complete.

"Ok Ma'am." he said.

"And Mr. Mehra, ek aur kaam hai mera, I need that done too. I've emailed you the details." She said.

"Yes, mil gaya mujhe." he said.

"I hope I can trust you Mr. Mehra."

"Ofcourse Ma'am." he said with a small smile.

*

Sneha had pulled out her homework and Kukki had decided to help Sneha with it. Sneha was excited to spend time to bond with her sister when the doorbell rang. Rishabh entered the house and went straight to Sneha's room. He was surprised to find both his daughter's chatting with each other. He crept up behind them and placed his hand over their eyes.

"Dad?!" Kukki exclaimed. Sneha turned around to see Mr. Bajaj giving a wide smile to both of them. Sneha threw her arms around Rishabh and he picked her up.

"Aap aa gaye!" Sneha chirped excitedly.

"Ofcourse!"Rishabh said. "Main aapko gussa thodi rehne deta?" he said. Seeing that smile on Sneha's face made Rishabh sure that coming home was worth it. Kukki looked delighted too.

Another reason for Rishabh to come home was Prerna. He knew she would try and talk to him again about last night and he didn't want to talk about it. He didn't expect her to understand him or his words. So it made no sense to talk about all those thigs again. It would just make Rishabh more angry. But now he was with his daughters, his mind and his heart were both happy and on the same page.

"Dad I can't believe you came!" Kukki was pleasantly surprised too. Rishabh looked at her and apologised, "Sorry, maine bekaar ka daat diya tha."

"Its okay dad!" she readily forgave him.

"So kids, kya karna hai aaj?" he asked. "How about we go for lunch?"

Sneha and Kukki both nodded excitedly. Rishabh was glad he could spend some time with them. He had to tell them that he was planning a trip abroad. He had left some meetings unfinished because he had been worried for Prerna. But now he knew Prerna could handle it. He had seen her handle herself well these past few months and he believed that she wouldn't need him anymore.

"Main abhi ready hoke aayi!" Kukki said leaving the room.

Sneha too got down and opened her cupboard. Rishabh went outside to make a reservation at a five star restaurant. He wanted to make this meal really special. He felt an urge to call Prerna and ask her to join also. He wanted to tell her that he was leaving for London in a day or two. He wanted to tell her to take care of herself but his brain refused bluntly and his heart obeyed.

The doorbell rang again. Rishabh rolled his eyes. Kahi Prerna ko pata chal gaya ki main ghar aa gaya toh woh bhi wapas toh nahi aa gayi? He wondered. He was clearly avoiding his wife and that inevitable conversation that they would have to have.

Rishabh saw Anurag walk into the house with an envelope in his hand and suddenly wished that it would have just been Prerna. This was worse. He sighed. He was in no mood to speak to Anurag, not now, not ever.

Anurag wasn't expecting to see Mr. Bajaj at home either. He actually expected to see Prerna at home without Bajaj. It was 11:00 am, why was he at home?

"Mr. Basu, can I asked what you're doing in my house?" Rishabh asked with a frown.

"Mujhe Prerna se baat karni hai." he said calmly.

"Mrs. Bajaj is in office. Please go see her there." He said showing Anurag the way to the door when Sneha came running out.

"Main ready hu!" she chirped running outside. She stopped when she saw Anurag. She remembered him from the party. She felt scared and hid behind Rishabh.

Anurag froze when he saw her. He had tears in his eyes. She looked so innocent. A smile appeared on his face.

"Don't even think about it." Mr. Bajaj said the moment Anurag took a step towards her.

"Mr. Bajaj I know ki main hi--"Mr. Basu." Rishabh said furiously raising his finger. He would not let Anurag be the one telling Sneha that he was her father.

Kukki came out too and looked at Rishabh worried what her dad might say or do to Anurag.

"Kukki, tum aur Sneha gaadi mein baitho, I'll be right there." He said sternly. Kukki nodded and did as Mr. Bajaj said. She took Sneha by her hand and left.

Anurag watched his angel walk away, her eyes fixed on Mr. Bajaj. She didn't even look at her.

Once she was out of site Mr. Bajaj turned his gaze to Anurag who was gave him an envelope. Mr. Bajaj opened the envelope and read the content. It was a paternity test. He was not surprised. "Why are you showing me this?"

"Aapko koi haq nahi hai mujhe meri beti se dur rakhne ka." Anurag said through gritted teeth.

"Aur yeh aap iss test result ke base pe keh rahe hai?" Rishabh asked still smirking at Anurag. He lifted the letter and tore it in front of Anurag. Anurag looked angry.

"I don't need some paternity test to tell me ki mera kya haq hai aur kya nahi. Woh main khud decide karta hu. Haan, main Sneha ka biological father nahi hu. But woh meri beti hai and she will be until she wants." He said throwing the pieces at Anurag.

Anurag smirked. "Kitni funny baat hai na, pehle meri patni ko mujhse churaya aur ab meri beti ko. Kitna try kar rahe hai aap meri har chiz ko apna banane ki. I won't let you succeed Mr. Bajaj." Anurag warned. "Iss baar I will make things right."

Mr. Bajaj laughed. "Basu, the door is that way." he pointed. "And on your way out try and remind yourself - ki aap jinn logo ko 'apna' keh rahe hai woh aapke baare mein kya sochte hai. Prerna hates you, she wishes you she never met you and jab Sneha ko pata chalega ki uske so-called 'dad' ne uski mom ko maarne ki koshish ki tab toh aap soch hi sakte hai ki woh aapse kitni nafrat karegi. So do yourself a favour and stay away from my family."

"MR.BAJAJ!" Anurag said raising his voice.

Rishabh rolled his eyes. "Garajne waale badal, baraste nahi hai Mr. Basu. Don't waste my time. I am not interested in your empty words. Baaki ki baat aap Prerna se kar lijiye. Woh jesa chahti hai wesa hi hoga." He said walking off. He really didn't want to keep his daughters waiting & that too to talk to this man.

Precap: Anurag tells Prerna the truth.

Hellooo! Thank you so much for not hating the twist and enjoying Mr. Bajaj's outburst. Ofcourse this isn't going to happen on the show but I really wanted to do justice to RB's character and also to PreRish. I don't want Prerna to start loving Mr. Bajaj suddenly one day. It has to be done right. So have faith & keep reading. I hope I am able to give a good direction to this story.

Do leave your comments behind because they really do help me stay on track with the character sketch as well as understand what you guys felt while reading. Thank you all for your comments & feedback for the last update & I really hope you enjoy this update as well. All suggestions/feedback are welcome.

Love,

Manjari

So for Rishabh it was very important to accept this and not expect more from Prerna and let his heart go out of control. He needed to accept that there could be a possibility that Sneha would pick Anurag over him because he is her dad. So he can't let himself slip away.

Nice to meet you Mansi ❤️I am good! What about you? We can chit chat on the scrapbook instead. 😆

Take the progress as slow as you can becoz i really feel bad for Rishabh on how ungrateful Prerna is towards him. So i m good with whatever comes.

Off course. That can clearly happen as for now i just want to be happy.

I m also good. Off course we can talk there two. Give the link tho

Sent through PM.

Yeah, same here. I feel like the CVs just aren't justifying Rishabh's character properly.

So here I am, trying to do that.

That's the saddest part! I'm glad you liked the update. I honestly would also like to show more about Anurag & Komolika but i realised the chapters would get stretched out and it will become extra slow. So I'm just focussing on PreRish and only necessary scenes of Anurag
