Heartwarming emotional update.
Good that Prerna listened to Veena to check on Bajaj. The nurses😆, they are too much. But they are speechless once they know who Prerna is. So she got to know how he is missing his meals and the conversation with Chandu cleared many things. Chandu truly is so very loyal to him.
Why can't he simply tell her he needs her in his life. Life would be PERFECT then. He bought the hospital in one day and they are inaugurating too. Prerna threatening the nurse just by looks😆.
I loved this line "Beloved mother. Forever yours, Rishab."❤️. And he is planning to close this room forever. I liked Kukki and Prerna's conversation about her daadi. The conversation between Mehra and Prerna is even better. She got to know many things which she didn't know about him and free advice too.
And he made sure the person is punished because of whom his mother is not with him now. Such a noble cause of treating the poor for free. Prerna's response to him was natural. She wants to comfort him.
Looks like she would get to know that he is behind the article now. Nice update. Waiting for the next one now.
Thank you for your thoughtful observations. You are definitely on to something.
Ye achcha nehi hua😭rula dua.very heart wrenching.update next soon plz. Thanks
Plz plzz plzzzz update asap.
Really waiting
Chapter 12:
She noticed that he did not hug her back. His hand instead rested on Kukki's head, like he was wary of touching Prerna at all.
Prerna: Your mother would be so proud of you today.
Rishab looked intently at her face: Really?
She had never seen him this earnest.
Prerna nodded: So proud.
He said with heartbreaking honesty: I couldn't do anything when it counted most.
Prerna hugged him tightly again: You can't blame yourself for that, you were just a child.
Rishab's voice was heavy: You don't know Prerna, you don't know how much she suffered. She was betrayed by the man she trusted the most. She willed herself to die rather than be a burden on me once her cancer was diagnosed - because she wasn't able to work. She wouldn't ask Ma...my father for help. Cancer treatment wasn't available anywhere but this hospital then. I could't do anything...my beautiful, glowing mot (his voice cracked).
Prerna's eyes filled at his confession. She wiped his tears, hugged him and lay her head softly on his chest.
Prerna: She sees you now and you do her proud, everyday.
She felt his hands behind her now. He pulled her closer, it felt like their hearts were in rhythm in this quiet lobby.
A sarcastic voice pierced the silence.
"Oh, excuse us! I think we are interrupting a family reunion here, Baba, Look at that, Mr. and Mrs. Bajaj!"
Rishab straightened with a scoff as Anurag's voice echoed down the hall. He immediately let her go.
Prerna looked up in surprise, first at Rishab and then at Anurag.
Rishab said out loud to Anurag at the end of the hall: In more ways than one, Mr. Basu (Rishab looked at Maloy Basu's expression intently).
When Rishab looked back at Prerna, his eyes were shining again. This was not the Rishab she just saw a moment ago. All she saw now in his eyes was disappointment. Pure disappointment.
Rishab in a low voice: So this is why you stayed (he sighed). For a second there, I thought... (He took a deep breath to calm himself). You are free now Ms. Sharma...free to make the choice you always wanted to make (he looked at Anu approaching), you don't have to do this anymore. This playacting.
Prerna: I am not! I didn't know he was coming, I stayed for you...
But he wasn't listening anymore. Rishab bent down and picked Kukki up: I will drop Kukki off to school. You can stay here.
Prerna: But I can, you are not feeling (Rishab interrupted).
Rishab said with great restraint: You have done enough already, thank you for getting her ready.
Prerna felt herself shrinking under his sudden cool reserve. She could take anything from him, but she couldn't stand his disappointment. She couldn't stand him distrusting her, but she knew she deserved it for the past. Rishab knew that she put on acts with him in the past to discourage Anurag, it was no secret. It was so thoughtless of her. Now she couldn't even show sympathy and care to him without him distrusting her.
Anurag drove his father's wheelchair in between them intentionally. He was looking belligerent. Rishab stepped back, his head bowed.
He was not fighting anymore, Prerna noticed with a start. Rishab wasn't standing his ground with Anurag anymore like he used to; he just held on to Kukki and looked like he wanted to be anywhere but here.
Anurag: So, do we have to change hospitals now, Mr. Bajaj? Since you put your bura saya on this place too?
Prerna: Anurag! This hospital is named after his deceased mother. Please, stop it!
Anurag went silent, showing some immediate remorse. Kakababu looked oddly detached, Prerna noticed in all this chaos. He just stared straight ahead at the 30 foot high photograph of Rishab and his mother.
Prerna bent down and soothingly explained: Kakababu, this is Mr. Bajaj's mother. He named the hospital after her.
Kakababu just stared ahead at the picture.
Rishab smiled: This is the best cardiovascular department in the city, Mr. Basu. I wouldn't jeopardize your father's health to settle your scores with me.
Rishab saw Maloy Basu still staring at his mother's larger than life picture.
Rishab: Welcome to R. Bajaj hospital, Mr. Maloy Basu. Rest assured, you will receive the best care here. Anything named after my mother aspires to her character.
Prerna saw that Kakababu closed his eyes at this odd comment , looking upset.
Anurag spat out: Leave my father out of this. He's not well, can't you see?
Rishab pressed Anurag's shoulder in a friendly manner: Don't worry, Mr. Basu, (he looked at Prerna) everything will work out for you now. No more bura saya from me. Try to be a little more cheerful about the blessings in your life.
Anurag angrily shrugged off Mr. Bajaj's hand.
Rishab did not wait, he paid his respects to his mother by touching the ground near the puja preparations by her photograph and walked out with Kukki in his arms.
Prerna glared at Anurag: You could have at least given him a break today. He's not well, he was just at the hospital for two nights.
Anurag sarcastically: And how would I know that your poor Mr. Bajaj was ill? Maybe you can go make him feel better. Run back to him as you usually do.
Prerna sighed in frustration and walked out.
Kukki looked sadly at Prerna over Rishab's shoulder as Prerna tried to catch up with Rishab's pace.
Prerna: Rishab, please, at least let me say bye to Kukki, she's reaching for me.
Rishab kept walking without looking back.
Prerna was near tears looking at Kukki's anguished face: She's crying, please Rishab! I know you are upset with me, don't take it out on her.
Rishab put Kukki in the Bentley: She will be fine. She's my daughter.
He was about to get in the car but Prerna pulled him back by the arm and pushed him back against the car softly: She's mine too! You can misunderstand me as much as you want, but you can't hurt her like this.
Rishab looked spent: Look Prerna, she's all I have, the only little person in the world who loves me as I love her. Don't claim her. I wronged you, I tried my best to set it right. Why would you accuse me of hurting her when everything I do is for her?
Prerna tried hard to calm her nerves: I am not accusing you, I am sorry, I just want to say bye to her.
Prerna reached inside for Kukki, who skipped into her arms.
Rishab was still where she left him when she came out.
Rishab: Please try to create some distance with her now. She will not have you in her life like before. She needs to get used to it.
Prerna was still in shock over how such a sweet moment between them since the pooja turned into such a disaster.
Prerna: I know you don't want me around anymore, but she needs time.
He wouldn't look her in the eyes but he said softly: You should go back inside.
He got in to the car and they left without another word.
Veena approached Prerna as soon as she got home.
Veena: So how is Rishab doing? A little better? What happened?
Prerna weakly: He's fine, Ma. It's a long story.
Veena: Fine, you look tired, come have some tea. Oh and before I forget, this came by registered mail for you.
Prerna knew what it was without opening it. Rishab was nothing if not punctual.
Prerna: I am really exhausted. I am going to go take some rest, Ma.
Veena agreed. She did not miss that Prerna was hiding her tears though. For hours after, she could hear Prerna's muffled sobs in her room.
That night, her family tiptoed around her as Prerna tried her best to make it seem like everything was just as it should be.
Veena tried to distract her: Are you going to call that journalist, Kunal Joshi?
Prerna: Yes, tomorrow, he's been spreading lies about me with no thought of how it affects all of us. I want to know his source.
Prerna stormed into Rishab's office the next morning and threw something at his face.
Rishab ducked instinctively, but she didn't miss.
Prerna: I didn't think you could go this low. Thank the gods that you are just out of the hospital, Rishab Bajaj, because I would bash you up and send you there myself. Who do you think you are!? You really like playing the wronged man, don't you?
Rishab looked at the page on which her newspaper was open. She had aimed very well at his head because you could sense his bandage bleeding again.
Rishab guiltily: It's not what you think.
Prerna: I didn't want to marry you, na? (Her words cut him deeply) I loved someone else and you knew! You said you still believed me and my ability to be loyal. When was I ever disloyal to you, Rishab Bajaj, that you now accuse me of desertion!?
Rishab: I didn't say you deserted me, I only placed that cause...(he stopped when Prerna put her hand up).
Prena: I don't care why you did it. It doesn't matter anymore. That real story is that you treated me like a plaything by marrying me one day and discarding me the next. And you accuse me of playacting! You and Anurag are the same. He thinks he can take me back whenever he wants, you think you can step out of marriage and "set it right" like everything was before. You both think I have no will of my own. That I can't make any decisions of my own. You with your devta-complex have to make decisions for my "happiness" and he thinks he can have me back with no thought for how I value marriage. (She pressed her temples in frustration and was quiet for a minute as Rishab's heart raced). I am DONE with you. You want your quickie divorce? You got it. Look, I brought the papers with me. I will sign them right now. Then you can go run off and do whatever you want.
Rishab's blood ran cold. He didn't want to watch her sign their divorce papers.
She sat down across his desk and ripped out the papers from inside the envelope.
Prerna: What does it say? What? That I am a deserter? Fine. Does it say I cheated on you? I don't care. You win. I will sign it. Give me a pen.
Rishab stayed motionless, looking scared.
Prerna: Give-me-a-pen (she reached and took a pen from his stationary).
Rishab softly: Please...
Prerna was on fire: Please, what!? We will reach a decision today. You don't need to place stories to rush the decision anymore, you got it. You want the world to think I left you? Fine, I will be the bitch (he winced).
She feverishly signed page after page as Rishab watched in horror helplessly. Finally she pushed the stack in his direction.
Prerna: There, all done. Congrats!
She turned to storm out, but he locked the door with his remote.
Looking for reactions to this chapter.
