All of them did things one can hardly approve in reality but that's the intrigue about them. They represent exact opposite of what we are & the dark shades of human beings.

All these characters were hated & loved immensely. Hated because in reality you would never want to encounter someone like them but on screen these are the most intriguing ones as they are layered with shades one wants to explore & that's why people loved them.

It’s different for me. I have watched Bates Motel, and I really disliked that Norman and felt bad for everyone especially his brother who was just suffering for no reason and ignored by his mother all his life. He was my fav character. I also felt really bad for Norma. When it came to Maya, most genuinely loved her and sympathized with her. There were only few who hated her and even those would say they watch show because of her lol. Only with very few actions I disagreed with her and hated her for it, but I supported her throughout. It’s because the characters in Beyhadh were pathetic and evil themselves. It’s not like they didn’t try killing. The only reason they couldn’t kill was because they would end up getting unsuccessful, not because they didn’t try enough yet those morons had the guts to judge Maya who actually went though shit since she was born when most themselves would act crazy despite having good lives and would lose control so easily when angered. Jhanvi, Ashwin, Vandana, Aryaan, Samay, etc all tried to kill sometimes Maya and sometimes trying to kill Arjun, and Arjun was the only he got successful in the end. The difference between Bates Motel and BH was that the characters in Batel Motel were actually positive characters with flaws compared to BH where they were evil but would act saint which is why Maya got so much sympathy.

And no, I wouldn’t mind having Maya in real life. Of course, the way she turned in the end was too much, but she could’ve gotten better had she was given proper treatment and care at the right time. It’s Saanjh whom I wouldn’t never ever want in real life. I would stay far away from such people. I wouldn’t wish Saanjh on anyone either except on those who liked her as they seem find with her. I wouldn’t want to say she scares me as I don’t want to think negative, but just the thought of such kind of woman in real life I wouldn’t want.I would also not want Arjun like husband even for my worse enemy. I thought I hated Rukaya from JA and Bajaj from Kasauti the most, but it’s Saanjh I hate the most. I actually started feeling bad for Rukaya towards the end. I started feeling bad for her since the time she couldn’t become mother. That was too sad and it wasn’t her fault. I hate Bajaj too though as both are similar in the way how both him and Saanjh presented themselves to be saint while causing sufferings and destruction around. That’s why I like Komo any day over Bajaj. But I still think Bajaj didn’t cause that much pain as much as Saanjh. Plus at least with Bajaj, you can enjoy the actors’ wonderful performances first by Ronit and now KSG and also actually enjoy the character from time to time even if you don’t support the character’s actions which wasn’t the case with the other character.

Some ppl ask how can you support such a character , just bec a hot actor is playing it..it happened with me for years when madhubala was on . Rk was much worse than mr bajaj initially . The fun is in watching the tashan between the gray hero and heroine and hero losing it to her . I am not ashamed of admitting that when rk changed for madhu , his charm was totally gone , he became brainless and confused which i cud never like..so i gave up on the serial..

In kd , i feel ppl just shut off theit brains , although the cast is perfect , a good amount of humour is provided by prithvi and sherlyn thats why they are stretching it to infinity yet it has great trps..villains vs leads , both stupid . Actors n characters both e good..

Then there are black characters , i feel they deserve a lot of appreciation bu5 actors r hardly liked due to their characters..except for maya , such characters come once in a decade..ppl still liked her for the fab acting and portrayal of maya..

I am not looking forward to a romantic story bw bajaj and prerna..prerna must give it back to him with interest..if this happens , who wont like it ? Anurag must fight bk ..it totally depends on the story....ksg will still be liked and appreciated but anu pre will be loved more ..only if they stop portraying them as victims but fighters..

Lol, I hated RK like anything and still do. But after watching Beyhadh and seeing the worst kind of husband Arjun was, my hate for rk decreased a bit. But I still hate him. He was a psycho moron. He used to be my fav character. I kept giving him chancing that okay he’s bad because of his past and blah blah thinking one day he will finally get better even thought Madhu and others didn’t deserve crap just because he had some crap happening in childhood. Even when I liked him, I never supported his actions from the beginning. But then he went ahead and did unwedding and the things he said and did during that track he became irredeemable for me. I wanted him to suffer the consequences for his actions and wanted Padmani’s curse to come true. But he was let go so easily, freely and basically forced Madhu to forgive him and take him back. Instead, it was Madhu and others who were getting bashed for not understanding such poor evil guy.

I loved DD-VD’s chemistry, but both of their characters were ruined for me that I had to stop watching the show. I actually never got the hype behind so called hot male lead characters with stupid past crap. Just because you went through shit, doesn’t give you the right to do crap to others. If Madhu, and other characters were grey and did evils from time to time and RK was actually justified in his actions, then I could’ve supported RK. But not in this way where others were just innocent and this psycho glorified as protagonist was just causing pain and pain. I hate ASR, RK, Shivay, etc type of characters. The only grey male lead character I liked was Sujal. I liked Maan too but then he was never grey to begin with. Those two characters were written very well. Maan was the only Gul’s male lead character which wasn’t an abusive crazy like ASR, Shivay, etc and had to actually suffer for long time when he said something wrong to the fl.

Though everything you have said is contrary to what I feel, I loved reading coz it felt nostalgic. Those shows you mentioned were iconic, the characters you mentioned were iconic for good or bad reason. I loved RK, I loved how they maintained his character until they ruined it much later. I was supposed to feel bad for Madhu, but I was so subsumed by the fact that RK was so self-consuming I could never see anything else. Beyhadh, to be honest, I loved it, I loved the story and shit, but never watched much coz it was too negative for me, too mentally disturbing. I loved Maya, I loved Arjun too. ASR, I liked him, a lot. He had a lot of swag, but during that time, my attention got shifted to KSG as Asad, and I fell in love with him. Shivay, never watched much, by then, I had already seen so many of Gul's heroes, that his swag seemed nice but too extra for my taste. These are my personal views, that said, I think the era for those Gul heroes are done. I think people are back to showing nice heroes, or flirtatious heroes who aren't always burdened with a past. This is so off topic, but these used to be my favourite shows at some point, and I couldn't resist commenting. ❤️

But I fell in love with AnuPre.. Dont particular like Parth/Erica as a couple.. but then suddenly, I got disconnected with AnuPre and it started during Vikrant track when AB suddenly became insecure and possessive.. Ever since then I couldnt connect to AnuPre as a couple.. In fact, I feel like I can’t recognise this Anurag Basu...

I am not rooting for PRB but if RB can change Prerna and make her the better version of herself then I am ready to give them a chance..

I have always watch a drama for the character and not really for the couple.. Because the moment grey turn into white or bad boys turn into good, everything becomes boring..

Since I don't regularly watch the show I can't relate to your track references, but I loved your different reasons for watching or rooting for someone. Mine has always been the liking for the male lead, idk if someone would call it sexist or shit, if I enjoyed watching him, I used to watch. Beyhadh was the only show I watched for the female lead I guess. Grey to white or bad to good makes it boring. Grey to black is also irritating and the trodden path.

Sorry for butting in again, but you mentioned all the shows I have watched in one post and I couldn't resist again. * Sheepish *

Rukaiiya - I think poor lady, they just used her like however they wanted. She oscillated between grey and black for a long time. I liked her sometimes, and you know how there used to be reel Vs real posts there, then I used to feel sorry for her. But depending on the CVs, they used to make her change sides. So sometimes she sucked. Later idk what happened.

Saanjh - didn't follow that show to such an extent though I knew what happened.

Bajaj - watching it for the actor, never knew how it was in Season 1, and now it's too late to go back and watch coz I can't relate. But nice post man.

I’m rooting for Bajaj simply because who wouldn’t want to spend half their day in silk pajamas ordering people around?!😂

Side note: I hate a weak man and Anu is a weak man!

I started watching KZK for Parth but actually got interested in supporting characters, pls give them due credit, they are d torch bearers. I simply could not get Prerna. If this is an example of giving leverage to other characters than the one you have signed for.

Rather than Prerish, i would root for Bajrag , can't help. They seem much better.

( off topic) all iconic characters are brought as references , IPKKND, QH,Madhubala,Geet, IB.

However when you root for iconic pairs or characters don't you think they did well bcos of the story line and water tight characteristics. Pls add the drama behind each episode. When all blended it became a perfect match.

With regards to Beyhadh, i feel for Maya. Pls do not compare any character with Arjun Sharma. He is beyond redemption. When Maya was Riddhima could not connect with her as well as Zoya. If at all anyone has seen Bepannaah, it is a perfect example as to how a very well written Maya takes a beating in front of Zoya ( there is no comparison still, there were plenty of issues with her role). I fell for the pair like bolts and nuts. Sonakshi vs Prerna, another reference.

I for sure wouldn't want to encounter a Maya in real life again. She was too turbulent & even though our high spectrum of empathy thinks we can help someone like her but the harsh truth is that you can't. She was already living on the edge but Arjun's entry in her life & her obsession with him pushed her off that edge & actually turned her into a sociopath.

She literally ruined her life for him with her own hands no matter how much she would like to blame others. She was self-destructive & insecure from the start of the show & I am not very fond of such people because in reality they are really, really difficult to deal with considering their staggering amount of senstivity & entitlement, one can't put up with beyond a point. To propose someone by scaring the shit out of them was the first real hint & there are some who actually do that kind of stuff in reality & ignore too. I have encountered self-destructive people in reality & they are dangerous as hell & they make dealing with someone like Arjun & Saanjh like a child's play. You can't really fight a masochist who resort to physical self-harm only to prove their point right & others wrong. You don't know how & when they are offended & what they might do next to make you fall in a chain of guilt trap since they don't communicate but directly act. These people can be easily offended with a slightest of thing & are pretty humorless. Once they latch on to you & one can kiss goodbye to their old happy life.

Many focused only on Maya while Jhanvi too was a patient who needed immediate mental help. She was not fit to be a parent with her own obsession, instability & stockholm syndrome with Ashwin. 2 mentally unhealthy people living off each other with the exact same kind of problem was something many ignored in the show.

Some acts of hers were clear indication of someone who had gone beyond help no matter how much we try to negate it. Maya was mentally unstable in her own way something she could mask brilliantly & observations about her by many were on point.

Maya may be an interesting watch on screen but in reality, someone like Maya would suck every good thing you had ever known in your life & create about 5 more PTSD & mentally ill patients. Beyhad never touched psychological nuances. Maya's actions were pinned to her extreme love but it was something else which in reality would scare the bejesus out of everyone.

While I loved Jenny's acting as Maya & honestly she had me siding with her initially when she killed Ashwin & was trying hard to settle herself down but gradually I gave up. She wasn't a person to be justified like everyone else in the show. Just a gender reversal in Maya's character would create a totally different picture no one would like. Maya as a male character would have gone down as a villain everyone would hate without justifying despite making a fascinating on-screen character.

Bajaj doesn't even come close to Saanjh or anyone for that matter. Bajaj-Anu-Pre are entirely fictional & non-existent in reality as no one would propose a marriage in reality like Bajaj did. But Maya exists in reality & so do Saanjh & Arjun. Arjun-Saanjh were heavily flawed & terribly wrong at several points in the show but they were no where close to what Maya was.

P.S- There ends my rant of another show which isn't allowed. 😆

Good question Sneha.

It has to be the character to me. How much I am invested into the character, that dedication part is dependent on the actor of course. But Character description matters the most. Which is why I am forever sold to Bajaj whoever plays it ☺️.

KSG is a good actor but I disliked him. But I like him as Bajju as I think he is doing a good job. So even though I like Parth as an actor, I am rooting for PRB, KZK1.0 hangover 😆. So you see, my preference for character won here and yes, if the actor is good (like KSG) I am open to change my opinion on him too. 😃
