A/N: This story is inspired by Kasauti Zindagi Kay 1 and 2 and obviously I am using the characters present in both the shows.
Summary: Anurag Basu and Prerna Sharma have always been family friends, they have known each other since they were babies and yet their "friendship" had never progressed beyond their acquaintanceship for their personalities were just poles apart. Also Mohini Basu, the matriarch of the Basu family and Anurag's mother deeply dislikes the Sharmas especially Rajesh Sharma who she believes is not worth of her husband Moloy Basu's friendship. As she makes no effort to hide her deep rooted hatred for the Sharma family, her three out of the four children also follow along with the eldest Nividita Sengupta being a mini-version of her mother and the youngest Tapur Basu simply ignoring them. The two middle children are Anurag who is simply polite and respectful and nothing more and Rakhi Basu, the most unique of the Basu children who actually forged a friendship with Prerna Sharma and keeps in touch with her. In my story Anurag is not going to be ignorant about his mother; he really loves her but he knows her flaws and he does not like her arrogance at all. He is very observant and knows how and when to take a stand, he will not let his mother pull his strings. Prerna is very similar to the one in KZK 2 except she is also career oriented and wants to make her own money, she is just not extremely ambitious.
Mohini is looking for a good match for Anurag, she wants a girl from a rich, well-connected family who is also beautiful, educated and is the envy of the society. For Mohini, Anurag is her prince and he deserves the best but Anurag hates all the girls his mom introduces him to. He wants someone simple and he really doesn't like the socialites his mom keeps pairing up with him. Moloy has also become anxious about Anurag's marriage simply because he does not want Anurag to repeat his mistake and marry a girl like Mohini as he did in the past. He wants a girl who would truly love Anurag and who Anurag himself would appreciate, someone he would be compatible with and he senses Prerna is the right girl for him and she would be able to break into his guarded heart and fill his life with happiness. But he also knew that he was helpless because even though Anurag and Prerna had been studying in the same university, their conversations never went beyond hello's and how's the weather and Mohini would never let him arrange their marriage. And then a situation occurred, something that could have only be planted by the God who he had prayed to daily in hope of this cosmic miracle that made the destined soulmates Anurag and Prerna come together.
Character Sketch:
Anurag Basu: Anurag outwardly is a polite, respectful and dutiful man who is also a good son and brother but he has hidden many layers beneath him that he struggles to show the world. He is regarded as one of the most eligible bachelors of Kolkata when in fact he detests the spotlight and constant matchmaking. He loves his parents but also clearly sees their flaws and the cracks in their society perfect marriage. Deep inside, Anurag hates the artifice of the shallow world of Kolkata's elite and longs to break away but his duties to his family has tied him away. His first love is Aparna Ghosh who he met in London and fell madly in love with. She was impressed by his money and this shattered him when he got to know her true face. His soulmate is Prerna Sharma except he hardly notices her until God itself had to intervene to unite them.
Prerna Sharma: She is naive, dreamy and a scatterbrained girl who loves love and romance. Her favorite thing is to read romance novels, watch romantic movies and talk about romance with her best friend Anjali. She is also career oriented, in the sense she wants a career and she can be hard working when she wants to and she has a heart of gold especially for her parents. She has a love-hate relationship with her mother Veena Sharma who constantly scolds and nags her to be more responsible and practical while for her father, she is 'his' princess. Her character is not as complex as Anurag but it changes throughout the story as she grows, goes through the trials and tribulations of love, makes her own career and becomes more mature.
Komolika: The main female antagonist of Anurag-Prerna's life, their love story would be incomplete without Komolika in it. She is the femme fatale,her striking movie-style looks, and her massive ego has made her an entitled, self centered woman who can do anything to get what she wants. She lives for the perverse pleasure she gets after ruining people's life and she especially hates Anurag and Prerna, the pair who refuse to separate no matter what she does. This constant defeat only fuels her ire against them.
Mr. Bajaj: The original male antagonist, he is Prerna's investor in her business and falls in love with her. He is the cause of many misunderstandings between Prerna and Anurag but he later redeems himself as he becomes Prerna's greatest friend and support.
