What bothers me is why has she stayed in this toxic relationship and family for so long. She was obviously not important enough to treat like a human being. She wasn't valued by JW or his family yet she chose to stay. Why 😕 ?

Is the only definition of a good bahu or woman, a meek doormat without any self-esteem or self-respect? Is that what women should aspire to be? Should she be rewarded at the expense of everyone else because she has endured abuse?

Sure Bani endured JW's rages - but she did so with dignity. I certainly don't understand Bani's silences in enduring further indignities - but at least she has a modicum of self-respect.
