Pyar Ka Raag Suno Re...(tere ghar ke samne) Bani loved weekends, it meant she could get up late, laze around in her pjs, drink coffee, read paper or just watch TV until she felt ready to tackle the laundry, shopping and cleaning. Last night she and Pushkar had dinner with Pia. AD was out of town and Pia was feeling lonely so she called up Bani and Pushkar and coerced them into an evening of pizza and wine. They had pizza and wine, followed by a session of watching girly movies according to Pushkar…Dil wali Dulhan le jayenge, followed by Kuch Kuch hota hai. Halfway through the first movie, Pushkar was stretched out on the sofa, snoring away, whilst Bani spent rest of the movie, consoling Pia as she bawled through most of the movie. When she reached home Bani had slumped on the bed and fallen fast asleep.
Now curled up on the sofa with her coffee, Bani contemplated what she could do beside her usual chores when the doorbell rang. She sat the mug of coffee down and walked to the door and opened it. Jai Walia stood smiling with a huge bunch of yellow and pink roses. Bani looked astounded at him and just stood there gawking t him. Jai thrust the roses in her face and said, "Well are you going to invite me in or do I invite myself in."
Bani got hold of the roses and stepped aside for him to come through. Jai walked into her living room and sat down on the sofa that had been occupied by Bani a couple of minutes ago. Bani stood watching him, not sure of what to say. Irritated slightly at Jai for calling on her uninvited.
Jai raised his brows, "Are you going to put those in water or going to stand there until they wilt?"
Bani looked at the roses and then at him, before walking into kitchen without saying a word. Few minutes later she came back with coffee for him and handed him the mug. She sat down on a chair and watched him. Jai smiled at her as he took a sip of the coffee,"Ah, not bad. I bet you are wondering what I am doing here so early in the morning?"
Bani just nodded her head. He smiled at her again, "Well if you are free I want to take you to a rose garden."
"A Rose garden!" Bani exclaimed.
"Yes a rose garden, not just any rose garden but to one of the finest in India." Jai watched her as her face as tried to digest the comment.
"If you can get ready we can be off as everything is arranged, You will have to take some extra clothes with you as we will be staying overnight."
A look of panic showed on her face, "Staying overnight!" she exclaimed.
"Yes, we are going to fly to Chandigarh. I am going to take you to the see Zakir Gulab Bag. You will love it, its acres and acres of roses of various kinds, colours and fragrance. So you think you could be ready in half an hour."
Bani sat stunned trying to absorb the details he just rendered. "I am not sure if I want to go. I have a lot of work to catch up on." Bani waited to hear his response. Jai laughed, 'Bani its weekend, I am sure work can wait till Monday. I can phone AD and tell him you are not working this weekend."
"No please don't. I didn't mean office work. It's just the regular chores I do at home on weekend."
Jai looked around at the room, "Well from the look of the room, it doesn't need cleaning and I am sure the rest could wait. Come on Bani, I know I should have called earlier and asked you if it was ok, but this is on the spur of the moment and it will be fun."
He looked hopefully at her, the dark eyes glinting and smiling at her. Bani gave him a resigned look, "Fine, but you have to promise to bring back tomorrow afternoon."
Jai stood up and hugged her, "I promise! You will be back here tomorrow afternoon. Now go and hurry up and get ready."
Half an hour later, Jai's BMW was speeding towards the airport where his private plane was waiting to fly them to Chandigarh. It wasn't often that Jai made use of the plane for personal use. His pilot greeted them both and showed them in the place. In ten minutes the place was airborne and on its way to Chandigarh. Bani looked down from the window at the view below. She loved to see the ground with building and people below reducing to mere specks as the plane flew higher. Jai gazed at her, noting the pleasure of flying reflected in her eyes. Soon the ground could not be seen and Bani turned and said, "How long will it take to get there."
"About three and half hours. Do you want something to eat or drink?"
Bani shook her head, "I am fine." She pulled a book out of her bag, "I'll just read for a while."
Bani dozed off while reading. Jai put her book away and put a shawl over her and sat and watched her sleep. He woke her up just as the plane started to drop height. Bani rubbed her eyes and smiled at him apologetically. "Sorry. I wasn't much of a company was I?"
Jai pushing back strands of hair behind her ear, "don't worry, I had a small nap myself," he lied.
A jeep was waiting when they came down from the plane, ready to drive them to the hotel. A short ride took them to the hotel on the outskirts of Chandigarh, the North Park resort, in Panchkula, on the outskirts of Chandigarh. North Park is spread in four and a half acres.
The rooms were big and spacious and furnished luxuriously in warm peach tones. After freshening up and a light lunch in the restaurant, Jai and Bani set off for the Rose Garden of Chandigarh. The drive through the Morni Hill seemed like another new world. The placid realm seemed totally under the control of nature…with thick greenery of pine, pipal, jamun and gul mohar. Bani loved the drive; she had never seen so much greenery and fascinating landscape as the one they were driving past. Within short time they arrived at the garden and embarking from the jeep, they made their way into the garden. In side Bani could see riot of colours as roses bloomed in every size, shape and colour. Jai took hold of her hand and they strolled at their leisure through the gardens, stopping now and then to take close look and photos of the flowers. Beside the roses, the garden had trees and shrubs of large variety like wood apple, bahera, harar, camphor and yellow gulmohor, including beautifully landscaped rock gardens and trellis. Bani did not realize that in between snapping pics of the roses, Jai was also snapping photos of her too.
Four hours later tired from all the walking they drove back to the hotel. Jai had booked a table for them to have dinner and he dropped Bani at her room asking her to be ready in an hour. Taking a leisurely soak in the hot water, Bani let the warm water soothe her aching muscles. She dressed her herself in a pale yellow and pink sari with light design, it had been sitting on top of the pile of sari and she had just picked it up and packed it. Right on time Jai knocked on the door and Bani picked up her purse and opened the door. Jai held out a small gift box for her. Bani took it shyly and opened it to find a small ruby pendant in a shape of a rose, hanging on a fine gold chain. Jai took it from her hand and put it around her and asked, "Do you like it?"
Bani walked to the mirror and looked at the red rubies gleaming around her neck and whispered, "It's beautiful! Thank you."
Jai came and stood behind her and whispered in her ears, "Thank you. A rose garden is incomplete without it's special rose."
