Bani woke up the next day to the sounds of pans clattering and women screaming and laughing. This had all she had heard ever since she came here. She wondered, at times, if any of these women could talk. She got up and looked around her. She saw a woman playing with pans on the floor, while others were laughing and playing with each other. She wondered how much longer she would have to tolerate all of this. All she could do here was sit and watch these women. She had no freedom anymore. Her life was getting monotonous and it seemed as though she had nothing else to live for. Her sister and husband had already betrayed her and her children were taken away from her. How much more could happen to her without her completely breaking apart.
Jai went to work and starting indulging himself into all the work that he had. He tried to stay as busy as possible and not think about Bani. He knew that the second he stopped working, his thoughts would go back to Bani. His heart and soul lived for Bani and he can't bear to be separated from her, but this is for her own good. He stayed at the office as late as possible and came home to his children. He played with them for a while, but then went off to sleep himself. He knew he was neglecting his own children, but the more the looked at them, the more they reminded him of Bani and all that he had done to her.
Rano went to meet Bani the next day to see how she was and the sight she saw wasn't pretty. Her Bani di seemed like a ghost. Her hair was messed up and her eyes puffy and red from all the crying. There were black circles under her eyes indicating that she wasn't getting enough sleep. When she went into the mental asylum, she saw her Bani di huddled up in a corner all by herself, crying. She can't bear to see her sister like this, but then again, she can't just leave her here alone.
Bani enquired about her children, and the minute she did, Bani stared crying on Rano's shoulder. Rano spent the rest of her visit consoling Bani and telling her that everything would be okay. She was about to tell her the truth, but the minute she opened her mouth, she remembered what Pia had told her. She knew that Bani di deserved to know the truth, but she didn't want to risk her life in the process.
