Jai walked into Bani's office holding the file she had left on his table. He threw the file on her desk and looked angrily at her.
"Dr. Walia.. What happened?'
'Bani what is god's Name are you doing?'
'What have I done?' she was clueless of the reason of his anger.
'Why do you want to quit?'
'What do you mean by that? I told you …….. I want to and besides you told me I can go any time if I find you a suitable candidate well I found three…..'
'You are not going anywhere…..' he said with finality.
'Of course I am going… doc…. You can't hold me in here.. I am bored of working here…I feel so sorry for Braganza sometimes.
'You are telling me my work is boring? That's quiet an insulting you know that..' he said with feeling..' besides Braganza is a loyal employee unlike you….'
'Oh Really? You are telling me I am disloyal?' Bani looked disbelievingly at him.
'Of course dear you are quitting the job once you lied to get…'
'Okay.. okay I did all that.. Now I don't want to work any more…'
'Why may I ask?'
'Because I am getting married…'
'What?' he couldn't believe what he was hearing.. 'Don't tell me you are getting married to that good for nothing guy………..' he seethed. 'You have no right….'
"I have every right….sir…..' she made faces at him.
Bani….'
'Sir…..'
Jai heard someone else's voice other than hers.
Bani?' he whispered.
'Sir.. Wake up there's an emergency call from the hospital….' Tony shook his shoulders.
Jai snapped opened his eyes and sat up. Wiping the beads of perspiration from his forehead…
Tony looked inquisitively at his employer.
Jai ignored him grabbed the phone and attended the call.
He was on his way out Tony called him.
'Sir… you have a parcel from Ms. Dixit. She dropped them yesterday evening.
Tony came back with the parcel quickly and handed it to Jai.
Jai dismissed him and opened the parcel. Jai's face darkened at the sight of it. She had returned the dress he had gifted her for the party.
'The nerve of the girl.' He muttered.

Bani was chatting with Braganza the intercom buzzed.
'Come in here..' he sounded rather irritated.
Bani walked to his office knocked and went in.
'Good morning..' she wished.
He ignored her throwing the file before her and said rather angry and irritated.' Take this file and send it to the address written below.'
What might have caused his nasty mood she wondered? Is it because she send back the dress. But she told him she he had to take it back… why was he…? She stood hesitantly wanting to ask the reason of his mood.
'GO…'
She walked quickly out the door.
Jai leaned back on his chair . God! What's happening with him? She started invading his waking hours and now his dreams too. What role is she playing in his life? He was bothered about the guy he saw her with… he had nightmare. She is a good girl he likes her.. why was he fearing of losing her to someone else? Is he?..
"No'. He said a loud.
'Jai you can not avoid the truth. His inner self warned.
"There's no truth". He protested.
"Jai how ever you deny it.. You are hopelessly falling in love with her". His inner voice screamed in spite of his denials.

Bani was doing the work he had given her Ms. Braganza walked in annoyed.
'What happened?' asked Bani.
'What's wrong with him?' Braganza waved her hand to Jai's office.
'Mood swings?' Bani laughed.
'Mood swings?'
'Hm.. P M S…' Bani winked.
'P M S?' Braganza asked chuckling..
'Yeah … yeah… pre-marital syndrome..'
Bani and Braganza laughed uproar sly.
Bani did not see the doctor that day. Jai avoided her sending work through Braganza.

Two days later Bani received a call.
Bani picked up the call and went silent.
'Are you there?' asked the small voice.
'Yes Rano…'
'You did not call…' she complained.
'I was kind of busy Rano….' Bani lied.
'Bani di…..'
'Yes Rano…..'
'Happy birthday Bani di….'
The phone went dead.
Bani stared at the receiver.
It was her birth day and she did not know. She never remembered her birthdays. She never cared. Some where in the corner of her heart Bani felt nice. She had turned 20. The first one to wish her was her sister.
Jai gave her another set of work and asked her to do immediately. He was not in any better mood.
At 2pm Bani had a visitor. Rano stood hesitantly at the door and Braganza ushered her in. she had a box with her. She found Bani staring at her. She walked towards her and gave her the box. Bani accepted the box hesitantly. Rano urged her to open the box. Bani unwrapped the box and opened. Her eyes misted at the sight. A cute birthday cake smiled at her from the box.
'Happy birthday di..' Rano leaned and kissed her on the cheek.
Bani blushed. Lata produced a pen knife and asked her to cut the cake.
Bani cut the cake and distributed among them. They wished repeatedly hugging her.
Foursomes were unaware of the knock on the door. Jai walked into find his employees in party mood. He noticed Rano among them.
"What's going on?' he asked walking in.
Bani stood quietly looking form her colleagues to her boss.
'Bani's birthday sir..' Lata said.
'Oh really..' he looked at the small cake. 'That looks sumptuous…..'
Bani cut the cake and handed him the piece.
He took the piece from her and tunred to her.
'A small bite for the birthday girl….'
Bani stood hesitantly. Braganza nudged her and she opened her mouth and took a small bite.
He leaned and kissed her on the cheek. Jai left them to party munching his cake.
Bani's cheek grew pink. That was unexpected of him.
Rano smiled.
Braganza and Lata giggled at her expressions.
Jai on his back to his office decided. There was no denying her. He had publicly kissed her though it was spontaneous he was not that kind of man to shower affections in front of people. She was getting under his skin. . He has to do something and that something has to bee soon. There was no point snapping at her or keeping her away from him. He was hopelessly in love with the fiery girl.
Bani opened her gift. She was taken back. She held a small frame and read the lines written by her sister.
"Dear sister every time we meet,

Bani put the frame down and drew her in a tight hug.
Braganza and Lata"s eyes misted.
Rano left the hospital few hours later.
Bani finished the days work and went to his office knocked on the door and went in. he was busy studying some file. She put the file on the table and said. 'I have finished them Dr. Walia … I need your signature.'
He took the file flipped the pages and signed.
'Bani some work has come up suddenly you will have to sit little late.. I need you to send few mails Braganza will give you the detail…' he said apologetically.
'No problem…'

Bani was tired by the time she finished her work. she stretched her arms pushed the chair back and got up. Braganza and Lata left work by 5pm. It was almost 7 when she looked at her watch.
She went to his office with the copies. Roshni was sitting in his office. He was talking on the phone. Bani stood hesitantly. He waved his hand asking her to come in. Roshni lifted her gaze and acknowledged her.
He put the phone down Roshni jumped from the settee and walked up to him.
'Jai… what did they say?' she was anxious.
'The bed will be ready….by the time you reach..' he said shoving his hand in his pocket.
'Oh! Thank you Jai … you are a darling.' She jumped over him and kissed.
Bani averted her gaze. Jai caught her her slight displeasure he turned to Roshni. "Take care Roshni and don't worry everything will be alright.
'Thank you.. and I love you for this..'
Roshni left hurriedly from the room leaving Bani and jai.
Bani gritted her teeth. She did not like what she saw. How could they flaunt it in front of her? How could they.
She gave him one angry look.
Here sir…. These are the copies. I have send the mails. Now I would like to leave.
'Yes thank you.' He said taking the file and flipping through the pages. The phone bell rang and he picked it up.
'Yes.. yes.. one moment..' he handed her the receiver.
Bani picked up the receiver questioningly.
'hello..'
'Bani….'
'Yes Raghav….'
'I just called to see if you are alright… aren't you coming home…'
'Yes on my way.. Thank you sweetie…' she smiled and put the phone down.
She turned towards him and said, ' I'll be leaving now.. Dr. Walia. Good night..'
'Hey wait. I'll drop you…'
No I do not want to make that a habit. She thought. 'I'll catch a bus. Thank you…' she left the office.

Bani was standing in the bus stop for past half an hour. There was no trace of any vehicle. What might have happened? She thought.
A car halted in front of her. The window came rolling down.
'Get in..' said jai.
She hesitated for a moment and got in beside him. There was no point of waiting any more.
'There happens to be an accident on the bridge and all the vehicles are stuck in a jam…' he said.
'Oh No…..' she muttered.
'I am sorry to keep you this late..' he said.
'It's okay..' she muttered and fell quiet.
She was angry and hurt.
She was angry to find Roshni in his arms. And she was hurt too she realized she had fallen in love with this workaholic machine.. and she hated her for that.
'You did not tell me it was your birth day today…' he said trying to start a conversation.
'I don't give importance to these silly things and I did not know it was today" came the reply.
'Bingo!" he did not believe in these things either.
He stopped the car in the long queue. "Oh damn!' he muttered.
"God!' she yelled. She can not sit in this car with this man…her emotions and hormones were playing haywire.
'Relax….' He said looking at her.
For the first time she felt uneasy sitting beside him. She needs to get out and that too fast.
She looked at the long queue and groaned.
'Seema will die with tension..' she muttered.
'Do you want to call her?'
'No I'll wait…'
He chuckled, 'call her it will take eternity to get out from here.'
'You mean we are stuck here all night?' she panicked.
He shrugged.
'Then I better call her..' she took the cell from his hand and dialed.
Seema picked it up at the 3rd ring.
'Seem I am trapped in a traffic jam.. don't wait up for me… I am fine and I am with Dr. Walia.' She said in one breath and handed him the phone.
The silence fell again in between them.
'Why did you send back the dress Bani?' he asked suddenly.
'What dress?' she was confused.
He threw her a look.
'Oh . okay… I told you you'll have to take it back.. I am sorry to send it back late I was kind of busy with many other things…'
'What do you want me to do with it… I don't wear ladies dress..'
Bani chuckled. ' I had a reason to accept that dress then doc… now that its over and besides I don't find me wearing the dress in near future…..'
He threw her a look. The car moved and she sighed, but it stopped again.
'By the ways doc… how's your mother and sisters?'
'They are fine thank you.. Anu was asking about you….'
'It's been ages since I have spoken to her..'
His phone rang interrupting their conversation and he picked it up.
She heard him give instructions and he sounded happy to that the caller had gotten out of the traffic jam.
'Take care Roshni..' he said.
Bani's face fell at the mention of her name.
He disconnected the call and said, 'Roshni's dad is critically ill. They are on their way to the hospital. We don't have that kind of facility….'
"I am sorry.. what has happened?'
He has a growth in his abdomen.. and they are going to do the surgery tomorrow..'
'Why aren't you with her?' she asked suddenly.
'I don't have anything to do there and that's not my case…'
'Don't you think you should be there to give her moral support….' What's wrong with her? She is actually asking him to go to Roshni….
'No, she has friend and relatives there.. And I have my own reason to be not present there..'
OH selfish Brute.. Bani concluded.
'What are you thinking Bani? You have a strange expression on your face?' he asked amused.
'Nothing.. I wasn't thinking at all..' she closed her eyes and leaned back on the seat.
Jai looked at her child like face for a moment. He then moved his gaze elsewhere.
When Bani opened her eyes she was resting on his shoulder and the car was moving she couldn't recognize the place. She scrambled back to her position colliding her head with his chin. She winced. Rubbing her head.
'You are restless in your sleep too Bani ..' he said rubbing his chin.
"Sorry.. Where are we?'
'God only knows…the police had diverted all the vehicles. The bridge is still in a mess.' The car was heading to a deserted area. He took his cell phone to call his home.
'Damn!' he looked for his charger and couldn't find. "Oh good." He muttered.
'What happened?' she asked glancing out side. There were no street lights and they were heading to a wrong direction.
"No charge in the phone and my charger is lost….'
'Very good.. This day is becoming very interesting. What a birthday anyone could wish for?' she said throwing her hands in the air.
He threw her a look.
"What are we going to do? I hope your car won't cheat on us…' she said looking anxiously at him.
He groaned looking at the gas needle.
'Oh no! Don't tell me we are in for celebration.' She panicked.
'Stop worrying it will take us few more kilometers..'
'Only if we find the way..' she finished for him.
They took a diversion and saw a building in a distance.
The building looked isolated and dark. They drove near and stopped the car. Bani got out with him and found two vehicles parked on the other side of the building. The building was two storeys. They saw dim light coming out of the two windows. Bani waked towards the building it looked like a bungalow. There was no lights out side. People in there did not want any attention from passers by. She went to the front door and rang the bell. They stood there for few seconds. There was no response. She put her ears near the door. She heard music. She went and rang the bell again. No one came to open the door. She pounded on the door violently much to Jai's astonishment.
'What are you doing?' he asked.
'Can't you see what I am doing… I know people are in there I can hear music. The walls must be sound proof that could be the reason we can't here the music standing here. I have feeling something is going on in there….' She said walking around the building him following her in suit.
They stopped near a huge tree. She looked above her head and said, 'look.. if I could climb the tree and knock on the window may be I can draw someone's attention…'
He looked disbelievingly at her.
'Bani don't tell me you are going to do that?'
'You bet.' She got on the branches ignoring his protests and climbed like a monkey. She leaned and caught the window sill and jumped on it.
'Bani………..' he yelled which went on deaf ears.
She dusted her jeans and stood up. She looked inside the window. Her cheeks reddened at the sight. She was shamelessly invading a couple's privacy. Bani cursed her and averted her gaze.
'Knock..' she heard him behind her ears.
'Hey when did you get on the tree..?' she was shocked to see him hanging onto the branch. She gave extended her hand and pulled him to her side. Bani feared with their sound they would attract the attention of the couple.
'Why don't you knock…' he asked catching his breath.
'No I can't….'
'Then why the hell did you climb here?'
'I am sorry doc.. I'll see the other window…' she moved a head to the other window.
Jai saw her move and he diverted his attention to the window. He turned his gaze abruptly and followed her muttering to him.
Bani stood at the next window hesitantly. She had no idea what was in store there.
"Bani…. What are you doing.. You can't stand here all night, knock..'
She shook her head. 'Doc why don't you take the liberty to look in there first…'
Jai chuckled. She moved aside giving him space to cross her. He moved a head of her their body brushing against each other. She could sense his breath against her face as he crossed one leg and peeped through the window.
'Oh No..' he gasped.
'What happened?'
'You don't want to know…' he said moving aside holding her for balance.
'It isn't the same… I mean… I don't know what I mean…' she blabbed blushing furiously.
'No… I think we better act fast…' he said seriously.
Bani moved quickly to the window and peeped inside. Her eyes bulged out at the sight.
She pounded on the window pane and shouted. 'You creep get off…. Get off her…………'
