Bani was restless the next day. She couldn't sleep the night. Her thoughts were occupied with her mother. She was not sure how she was going to meet her. What she would say to her? Her heart beat rose at the thought of it. Bani finished her work in the office as automaton. She was not sure what she was doing… most of the time her gaze was fixed on the wall clock. Lata and Braganza exchanged glances. When the needle struck 4 she got up from her seat and marched out. Lata and Braganza exchanged glances again.
'What's wrong with this girl?' Asked Braganza exasperated.
Lata shrugged her shoulders.

The door opened and Dr. Walia walked in…
'Sister I need the chart…'
'Yes doctor..' she went to get the chart.
Jai felt an awkward silence in the room.

'Is everything alright?' he asked in general.
'Er.. nothing..' Ms Braganza said.
'Braganza……?'
'Have you noticed Bani lately doctor?'
'What happened?' he was curious.
'She is so unlike her… the girl seems to be in thoughts and today….'
'What happened?' he asked trying to sound casual.
'Since she came in .. Her gaze had been fixed on the clock… and she just left..' Lata concluded handing him the chart.
He took the chart prescribed medicines and handed it back to her. 'sister give her the first dose.'
Lata nodded.
He looked at his two employees and said, 'Bani is going through some very personal problems….'
The women frowned.
'She will come around. And I am sure she will talk about it to you guys..' he smiled.
Lata and Braganza looked lost.

Bani stepped out of the elevator to the ward. She wondered what she was doing going in there to meet her. What was she going to tell her? Her feet and hands felt clammy. She had to make a start.. She took a long breath and walked into the private room. She stood out side the room for a moment and knocked on the door and went in. Rano and her father were sitting next to her mother and were trying to cheer her. Ravi Bali jumped from the chair at the sight of Bani.
'Kiran.. Look who is here…' he said giving Bani a bright smile.
Rano and Kiran looked her in surprise.
Bani forced a smile which died at her lips.
'Come in here sweet heart.. 'Bali took her hand and brought her near to his wife' bed.
Kiran's eyes filled with tears nearly blurring her vision. Rano blinked her tears and stared unbelievingly at her sister.
'Come dear.. Let us get some fresh air..' Bali nudged Rano to the door.
Bani panicked. 'Er.. Please stay.. Don't go.' She whispered.
Kiran felt her heart would tear apart. Her own flesh and blood was afraid to be alone with her.
'Al right..' Ravi stayed back.
Bani did not know what she was supposed to do. She looked around the room. And her gaze finally rested on her mother. 'How are you..' she sounded hoarse to her own ears. She cleared her throat.
Kiran nodded. After much of deliberation she spoke. 'I er … am fine..'
Bani was tongue tied again. She looked at Bali and said, ' Er.. I am little busy right now…. I'll….' She walked near the door and turned on her shoulder. 'take rest.'

Kiran wanted to ask her to stay for little more. She did not have the courage. She saw her daughter open the door and step out.
Bali walked Bani to the door and said, 'thank you.'

Bani walked to the elevator and pressed the button.
'SO?' said a voice behind her ears. 'Patched up?'
She turned quickly to find Jai looking down up on her.
'What are you doing? spying on me?' she was furious.
'I work here remember?'
She ignored him and got into the elevator. He followed her in suit. One of the matron from the ward got in along with them.
Once they reached near his office he caught her hand and pulled her to his office and shut the door.
'What……..' she was stunned at his behavior. She stared at him.
'Stop staring..'
Bani averted her glance.
'Well how did it go?' he wanted to know.
'What?' she was confused for a second.
'The grand finale..'
'I don't know… I just went to see her. That's it…'
'That's only it?' he frowned drawing creases on his forehead.

'Then what did you expect.. I'll run to her arms and cry my heart out. I…. ' she cleared her throat. 'I can't just forget everything all the pain and hurt will not fly out of the window in one jiffy..' she clicked her fingers. She blinked the tears that filled her eyes.
Jai was beside her. He took her in his arms. 'I am extremely proud of you my dear…' he said kissing her forehead.
Bani needed someone like him in her life who could understand her when she was hurt who could be her friend her…..
No not this too. She pulled herself away from his arms. 'I am okay doctor. Thank you.' She managed a smile.
She was in danger of stepping into a dangerous territory. She excused and went out of his office and promised she would soon finalize the candidate for her post.


Jai looked at the shut door. What was wrong with him? Why was he bothered about her feelings and her family and he happiness? What is he getting into? He liked her. He knew that much. But…… No.. not now…he did not dare analyze his feelings further. It did bother him when she saw him with Roshni. And it did bother him when she…… he shook his head.. He needed to become the best doctor. For that he needed to study further. He was 31 years old and he had a long way to go the rest can wait.

Bani was in the canteen she spotted Reshma. Reshma saw her and waved her hand.
'Hi.. What are you doing here Reshma? Is everything alright?'
"Chachaji had an abdominal pain later in the night. He is here under observation…'
'What did the doctor say?' Bani was concerned. She liked Lalaji.
'The doctor said nothing to worry. I came to get tea for him. She showed her the flask.
Bani enquired about his ward and promised to meet him after her work.

Dr. Walia walked into the canteen with Choudry.. Reshma noticed them and looked at Bani.
"Isn't that guy your boss's chauffer…?
Bani's gaze followed Reshma's.
Oh ho…
Bani….' Rehsma scowled.
'No Reshma he is my boss…' she said.
'Bani how could you lie to me….' Reshma looked hurt.
'No Reshma.. I did not I have no idea what you are talking about….' She said looking around the buzzing activity in the canteen. Her eyes spotted Rano and Bali seated in a corner.
'Reshma that day you saw his chauffer. I don't think they resemble from any angle… I don't know what made you………. There look..' she pointed the father and daughter. Reshma's gaze followed her. 'Do you see a girl sitting there?'
'Yes..' Reshma squinted her eyes to concentrate. 'Now don't tell me that's me.. Bani ..sitting with some guy….'
Resham's mouth fell opened and her eyes popped out.
'That girl look exactly like…… Bani ….'
'Bani….' She called.
Bani disappeared from her side.

Bani giggled all the way to her office.
'Well old girl nice to see you back..' commented Braganza.
Bani smiled warmly.

To Bani's surprise Arjun came to visit her.
'Hi..' she greeted him.
'Hi there you have a very nice office Bani…'
'Thank you… well what brought you here?'
'LalaJi…'
Bani felt guilty. She did not go to meet him.
'Come Arjun let us go and meet him….' She got up from her seat.
He looked at his watch. Bani if you have finished your work you can go with me home…'
Bani nodded picked up her purse introduced Arjun to Braganza and left hurriedly with him.

Bani and Arjun visited Lalaji.

On their way out Jai spotted them.
A scowl appeared on his face.' What's he doing in here?

Bani resumed her work again as an interviewer. She short listed three candidates. Braganza and Lata looked bothered about her quitting and Jai ignored her antics. Two days later Bani's mom got discharged from the hospital. Rano and Kiran came to see her in the office. Braganza and Lata looked stunned at the sight of Rano. Bani introduced them to her. Kiran' s face flinched as Bani addressed her as Mrs. Bali. Kiran knew it would take Bani time to call her mother. She hoped to God that was sooner. Bani's colleagues left them to their privacy.

Kiran looked at the office. I t was a pleasant room. She screened the room and her gaze rested on her daughter.
"We will be leaving today I Er.. hope you will come and visit us….'
Bani nodded.
Rano took a card from her purse and gave it to Bani..
Bani walked them to the door.
Rano put her arms around her and hugged her for the first time. Bani stood stiff in her arms.
"so this is good bye for now..' sighed Kiran. Bani walked them to the door.
Kiran looked at her daughter for a moment and drew her in a tight embrace.
Bani's eyes filled. She stood still her arms. It took a while for Kiran to release her daughter from her arms.
Bani walked them to the door.
'Please visit us Bani di…' Rano whispered.
Bani ached to touch Rano. But she maintained unaffected.

Bani decided to present the candidates file before him. She was at his office Roshni went past her swiftly and ran into Jai's arms. He was rather caught off guard.
'Roshni…'

Bani did not know what she was supposed to do… Clear her throat and make her presence felt or leave from the room.
Bani heard him talk to Roshni… trying to sooth her worries. Roshni was obviously upset about something.
Bani left the room quietly leaving them to their world.

Jai heard the door close. He looked at the file Bani left on his table.

Kamy, I am glad that Bani went to see her mother even though for a brief moment. She's right, the pain and hurt will not go in a jiffy, but at least this was a good start. Bani's got her heart set in the right place. She may appear as tough as steel but she has a soft heart.

JW is a DUFFER of the highest order. The guy is so much more older than Bani and seems to be mature, yet is afraid of analyzing his feelings. I treuly hope Bani goes ahead with the resignation and gets a different job. Maybe the distance will cause JW to miss her like crazy and eventually own up that he loves her.

Kamy, a little request. Try and put in a little more of Arjun in the next couple of parts. Cause with him around, maybe JW's jealousy will cause him to come out of his shell earlier. As for that Roshni, what the hell is her problem. Hamesha aaja tee hai. Can't leave JW alone in peace. Ship her off to Timbucktu. 🤢
