Dr.Walia was away for a week. Bani had less work in the office. New Year was approaching and she decided to gift herself with a new dress.
She was going threw few skirts in the rack, Roshni bumped into her. Roshni threw her a stony look and disappeared. Roshni was followed by Anu. Anu spotted Bani and smiled. 'Hi there she greeted.
'Hi Anu..'
Anu looked around the shop grimaced, 'Where did she go?'
'If you mean Ms. Chopra she just left.'
Anu excused and left hurriedly.
She came back into the shop fuming and muttering to her self, 'The nerve of that woman…'

She met Bani again at the counter.
'She left….' Muttered Anu.
Bani looked sympathetic.
'Come on Bani since I have nothing to do let's have coffee ...'
Bani obliged. They had coffee and chatted non stop.
'Bani… can I ask you a favor?' Anu asked cautiously.
'Yes,'
'Well I don't know how to ask you this…'
'Ask me, and then you will know.'
Anu smiled.
Bani do you know Roshni?'
'Well where's this going? Thought Bani. ' I have met her in your brother's office.'
'That's it?'
'That's all it…' Bani concluded. 'By the ways what's the favor got to do with this?'
'You don't know Bani…. You have no idea.. What ridiculous thing I am going to ask you to do...' Anu grinned.
'I am all ears…'
'Well… first and fore most it's about her, and I don't like her and I don't like the idea of her being my sister in law … can you help me to get her out of our way…' Anu was breathless by the time she finished.

What's with this brother and sister why do they want me for this ridiculous thing….
'You are thinking….'
'Yes I am doing just that….' Bani said.
'Please….'
'What do you want me to do Anu…… and why do you think I can do this?' she was anxious.
'Because… our Miss Roshni is little jealous of you I know when I hear something…. She called home few days back and complained blah blah…'
Anu told her about the phone call.
Bani listened carefully. And nodded in denial.
'Please… pretty please….' Anu clasped her hands and begged.. what looked all comical to Bani she agreed.
'Thank you..' Anu got up from her chair and hugged her.. Embarrassing Bani.
'Bani do not say a word about this to my brother..'
Bani nodded.



The New Year party was arranged in grand style by her neighbors. Bani and her little friends conducted few shows. They were enthusiastically cheered by the crowed. She was not a good dancer so she stayed away from the dances. She participated in one of the skit wrote by her neighbor. She cheered for the rest of the shows. Bani were standing near the b b q stand. A masculine voice called out her name.. she turned in time to see the caller her eyes widened.. ' Dr. Walia.. What a surprise?'
'Ms. Dixit….'
Raghav walked towards them hurriedly and introduced Jai Walia to Bani.. he stopped hesitantly at their smile.
'Do you guys know each other..? the boy asked little hurt.
'Yes Raghav.. he is my boss..' Bani smiled.
Raghav blushed scarlet. ' You guys should have told.. me..' he stammered.
'You did not ask me… did you Raghav…' she said looking at his face which was about to crack. He turned and ran leaving her And Jai..

'Raghav.. she called him… 'come in here… oh no.. excuse me doc…' she ran behind the boy.
Bani ran straight into a man's outstretched arms.
'Hello beautiful..' he said steadying her. ' I am Arun SAhay'.
'Hi…. But you will have to excuse me first before I introduce my self… did you not see a boy run away from here.. that's my son… 'she said looking out for Raghav.
Arun Sahay dropped his hand releasing her.
'thank you..'
She disappeared among the crowd.

'Dr. Walia grinned and looked at his friend.
'Well, I tried. She lied…..' he shrugged his shoulders. ' by the ways that was Raghav she ran after right?'

'Hmm.'


Bani spotted Raghav.. ' Raghav, don't be childish..' she accused catching both of his hands in hers.
'You and your boss laughed at me..' he shouted.
'We did not… and you did not give us time to say that we know. Raghav.. I am sorry yaar you got embarrassed but please don't spoil the evening… '
With much of persuasion Raghav gave into her.

Bani walked back to the B-B-Q stand. She picked up the burned burger and there it in the bin.
Dr. Wali and his friend walked towards her.
'Would you like to have a burger' she asked them.
'Yes…' Arun said.
'Now you can introduce your self..' Arun said.
'I am Bani dixit. '
'I like your sense of humor Bani .. Let us get to know each other….' He was flirting.
'I do not like flirts…' she said looking straight in the eye. And with out expression.
Jai looked from his friend to his assistant. Jai knew Arun. He was thick skinned. And Bani…..

'Come on girl..' Arun winked at his friend.
The man was getting on her nerves.
'Your steak is ready' she said tossing it once more.
Arun extended his plate. Bani picked it up with the tong and accidentally it fell on the grass.
'oops.. I'll get another one for you…' she picked up the steak from the ground and tossed it into the bin.
Arun received a call on his mobile he moved away from them attending the call.

'Bani dixit… I saw you deliberately throw the steak on the ground. Jai accused. Taking a step towards her.

'Good that you have seen. If you think I'll feed your friend with my two hands then you are out of your mind doc.'
Arun cut the call and walked back to them.
'ready?'
'Not yet'.
"not the steak my dear…. Are you ready to go with me…?
'Where?' she frowned.
'to have fun my dear….'
'And then? She prompted.
'If we like each other we will meet again…' he said.
'If we don't…' she asked Arun But looking at Jai .
Jai looked uncomfortable.
'Then we will forget.'
Bani smirked.
'So what say? Coming?'
She shook her head. She knew if she opened her mouth there was no stopping her.
'No?'
She shook her head again.
'You have a boy friend then… he said.
'Yes …'
'Its no problem I'll ask him…..' Arun Joked. Which infuriated her even more.
'Really? He is here. You can ask him…. And let me see what he has to say about this..? she challenged.
'Where's he?' Arun was little apprehensive….

'Here…..' She pointed her finger at Jai Walia.

'Jai?' Arun's mouth dropped opened.

Jai who was sipping his cold drink choked on his drink.

'Yeah your friend Jai…' she said looking directly at Jai.

Arun's face reddened with embarrassment.

Trying to cover his embarrassment he joked. 'Buddy would you allow me to…'

"Get off Arun….' Jai warned.

'Okay….' Arun slipped away from the scene leaving the doctor and his assistant.

'Ms. Dixit… I ..'

'I am not going to apologize for that,' she said heatedly. 'You didn't tilt you little finger to save me from that jerk..'

'He was having fun..' Jai defended his friend. Trying to sooth the atmosphere.

'Oh really? Then I am sorry to say I don't like such kind of fun.' She walked away towards the crowd, blinking a tear that threatened to fall.

Precisely at 11.59 the lights went off. And in second an ear wrenching alarm sounded in the ground.

'BANIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII…' screamed the crowd. 'GET THAT DAMN THING OUT OF THIS COUNTRY…'Chorused the public.

The lights came on. Bani stood in the centre of the stage holding an antique clock.

'Young lady.. Our New Year resolution is to confiscate you clock.' Said an older man walking towards her from the crowd.

"YESSSSSSSS.' People shouted.

'You wouldn't…' she held the clock tightly in her hand.

'Yes we would…. That's a unanimous decision.' He stretched his hand for the clock.

'Lala ji, how could you…. 'She threw a look at the crowd. 'How can you guys forget the sentimental value?' her eyes widened in disbelief.

'We decided to forget….' Said Mrs. Pundit. 'What about you guys?' she turned and asked the crowd.

'YESSSSSSSSSS'

'You cheats…. I'll file a case if you touch my property.' She threatened in mock anger.

MRS& MR. Sahay looked exasperated.

Jai Studied Bani and the crowd in amusement.

'Okay.. okay…. Let's make a deal….' Said Lala ji grabbing the clock from her. 'You no longer play the alarm…. We will not touch the damn thing. What say?' he asked the crowd.

There were murmurs among the crowd.

Jai looked at the small community. His attention turned to Bani. There was something about this girl. People loved her. She was definitely a charmer. A smile appeared on his lips as he heard half of them swear by her clock and the other half sympathized with her.

"Okay..' he heard her say.

'I shall not switch on the alarm. We will sign a pact.' She winked. Bani knew her drama had extended too far this time. But she always got on with it. She sneaked a look at Mrs. Pundit. The lady looked murderously at the clock..

'Happy New Year Bani …' Lala ji hugged.

'Happy New Year to you too..'

She cheered to the crowd and they cheered back.

Bani joined the younger group for games. Most of the time she cheated on the game.

Jai who witnessed her cheating walked up to her and whispered. 'Cheater..'

Bani looked startled.

'Everything is fair in war games Dr. Walia….'

Jai chuckled.

'Not war games … love and war.. by the whose line is it?'

'Mine…. Now excuse me doc I am losing concentration…' she whispered.

'Loosing concentration on what? On cheating?'

'Very funny…' she made face and turned her attention to her little group.

'What going on?' asked Raghav looking at Jai and Bani.

'Nothing Raghav I was telling your friend how the game is being played.

'

Oh no… don't give her more tips. She is one hell of a player. I know she cheats where and when is the question..' he said philosophically.

'I know…' Jai laughed.

Bani looked from her little friend to the doctor. She leaned near him and threatened, 'If you expose me doc I'll forget everything about Roshni…'

'You little witch..' he muttered.

'St down here doc and help me with the game…' she winked at him making room for him to sit. Jai sat down reluctantly. Jai Walia was duped by her innocent moves. Most of the time he helped to cheat. When he realized his mistake the game was over. Children left defeated. Bani emerged as a winner.

'You are a number one cheat I have seen so far…' he accused dusting the sand from his trouser.

'Thanks for the compliment..' she winked at him catching him off guard.

The girl indeed is a charmer.

The party went on till the wee hours. Jai left with his friend after receiving an emergency call from the hospital.

Bani walked into her flat and shut the door. She felt the loneliness gripping her. She sat in her bed and stared at the room. 'What will become of her? She thought.

Will she repeat the history like her aunt? Will she go bitter in life and die a lonely woman? Will she find someone who would sweep her off her feet? Or will she be sitting on this bed years ahead and die bitter? She groaned.

She pulled the quilt over her head and prayed for some sleep.

i love the whole concept of jai asking bani to be his girl and making roshni jealous so she would leave them
i absolutely love this bani...she is so straitforward and blunt
and this arun guy is pretty annoying... loved the way she said i dont like flirts..
i wonder whats going to happen next
