Chapter 6
But some how he managed to say wrong timing I guess. I just came to see Bani as she had called me and wanted to see me.
Jai also realized if Pushkar had not come then probably it would have been a disaster also felt happy that Bani had not said anything much to Pushkar Bani was feeling totally embarrassed because of her response to Jai's kiss and Pushkar catching hold of them.

Jai: So I guess now I will leave the two of you and join for the dinner. May be you can also join us.
Bani: Pushkar have a seat I will just join you. She just wanted to get away from there and get her thoughts together.
Jai takes two steps forward but then excuses him and says I forgot to take from Bani the keys to her flat as she wanted to pick something from there.

Jai enters Bani's room
She was drinking water and looking out into the garden. The slight breeze and earlier encounter had left her hair in a mess
Jai: SO I take it that you are in favor of my decision so can I have the keys to your apartment as you will not be requiring it again I shall have all the things moved here tomorrow.
Bani was feeling lost and confused
Bani just looked up and said you might have won this round but I promise you it would not be easy to get me to that mandap.

Jai: I always love a challenge and I believe the prize is worth it. Goes up to her and straightens her hair that's better so the keys.
Bani was trying to figure out Jai's behavior as one minute he was a raging bull the other minute he was behaving like a guarding angel and she was finding it difficult to respond to him and was finding it difficult to actually figure out Jai for the first time now which added up to her frustration. She always prided on the fact that she could judge Jai's mood by one look on his face.


Bani: Softly in my purse.

After Jai leaves she goes to see Pushkar.

Pushkar: Bani what is all this I am hearing I never knew that you and Mr. Walia had a relationship. I thought we were best friends.
Bani: You don't understand. God it is a long story.
Pushkar: I am all ears and what is there to understand after what I saw when I just walked in.
Bani: Oh Pushkar I don't know what is going on in Mr. Walia's head. One minute he wants to get engaged and the other second he says we are getting married. I am so confused then there is my sister Rano.
Pushkar: Bani one thing at a time Are you telling me that you both are getting married in the near future. What has that got to do with Rano.
Bani: Not in the near future just in three weeks in two days is the engagement and my sister Rano is the only family I have and Oh God what am I saying.
Pushkar: Bani you seemed to be all tensed up. Just relax and tell me as all this is news to me. I have seen you both together though many people in the office used to comment that Jai took a keen interest in your affairs I always thought it was Because of his friendship with Adi.
Bani: What do you mean by everyone talks in the office about us? I too work in that office and I have never heard a comment from any one. Forget that hardly any one talks to me because they think I'm just a kid.
Pushkar: Bani you can be so naive at times. Do you think they never became too close with you because they thought you were a kid? Give me a break here.
Bani: then what else could be the reason.
Pushkar: O.K. you want me to spell it out for you. First you were working for Adi and he was so protective of you it took me three months of working together with you just to take you out on a coffee break in the office canteen.
Bani: Was I that bad.
Pushkar: Not bad but innocent yes and with Adi uncle watching out like a father it was difficult. Then all of a sudden you moved to the big league
Bani: the big league.
Pushkar: What shall I say Jai Walia's sectary, confidant, companion. People in the office used to bet that he hardly dated anyone because you were his interest
Bani: What
Pushkar: now don't get me wrong. So many sectaries has worked for him and he used to blast them off and but too date we have never seen him ever talk to you that way moreover even in his worst mood the moment you enter he smiles. God don't you think people would notice such things.
Bani: how come then you didn't tell me all this before.

Now how was he supposed to say that he himself was mesmerized by her?
Pushkar: Let's just say that you have that effect on men.
Bani: Ya you really are a great help in solving this confusion.
Pushkar: What is the problem here Bani because if you are in love with him why not get married to him then.
Bani: Love. Thinking to herself Oh god is this the way now everyone is going to view our relationship that we fell in love nothing so much further from the truth.
Pushkar: Hey back to earth. You seemed to be lost and really I have a complaint against you. Though Mr. Walia took interest in you I never thought that it would be in a romantic way especially due to your age gap and he being Adi's friend. And I was supposed to be your best friend hence if something like that was there you would have told me guess I was wrong on that account.
Bani: Pushkar stop making me feel guilty now. It's not what you think it was Mr. Walia's idea to get engaged and married on such a short notice.
Pushkar: So you were going to tell me about this when.
Bani: It happened all so suddenly and I'm so confused about all this I'm not thinking straight some times I feel like running away.
Pushkar: felt now was not the time to question why she never told anything about her relationship with Mr. Walia rather she was being pressurized to commit to a relationship with him.
Why don't you talk to him? He listens to you and may be then you both could come to an understanding.
Bani: What do I do to make him listen?
Pushkar: Bani please don't tell me now you also are lost when it comes to Jai Walia. You always knew how to reason out with him you are a pro at that.
Bani: Well I tried and we both got into an argument which resulted in disaster that he wanted to immediately get married form the engaged stage.
Pushkar: So Mr. Walia is really keen on this relationship to work out or trust me he never would pursue it.
Bani: I am not a business deal for God sake.
Pushkar: Listen Bani I have been working with him for the past five years and before that he has been a family friend of ours I have never seen him to be so comfortable and caring with any woman other than massi.
Bani: I am not a kid to be taken care of. So tell me Pushkar what to do?
Pushkar: Bani you are not marrying me so what ever doubts you have don't you think it is better to clear it up with him rather than you sitting here and brooding and the dinner invitation I think I will skip that. One more thing Bani you need to talk to some one I am always there because I have a feeling there is more to this than you are saying. If you want I can speak to Mr. Walia also on your behalf.
Bani: What no way please Pushkar thank you for coming to night I just wanted a friend to talk to that's it
Pushkar: Good night Bani and congratulations.

Meanwhile in the mansion Jai told massi that he is ready to get married din three weeks. Massi was very happy. Jai moved to his study. Adi and Tarun came to know about the news through massi

Tarun: What is wrong with him yaar How did the engagement turn to a wedding.
Adi: Don't ask me.
Tarun: Moreover how did she agree to this?
Adi: Knowing Jai he would have had some trump card to use against her.
Tarun: Now don't tell me he blackmailed her into this.
Adi: Anything is possible with him. Are you coming with me I might go and See Bani? I am sure Jai would have left her high and dry.
Tarun: No I will go and meet up Jai and find from the lions mouth itself what is going on here.
Adi goes to see Bani
Adi: Bani when I left you were ready to walk out of here but now you are getting married to him.
Bani: closed her eyes. Oh God how do I explain to everyone. Why don't you go and ask your friend about why I agreed to marry him.
Adi: Why do I get the feeling that Jai has threatened you with something?
Adi tries to find out from her how she agreed to do it but Bani was very evasive about it.
Jai comes in with Tarun
Jai: Adi what is it that you want to know. I am sure you can ask me. If you knew Bani the way I do you will never get it out of her.
Adi: Ya it looks like you know her better than I do. So then enlighten me because knowing you it can't be that good.
Jai: Very cool but leaving out the details just made a statement Well I used her dependence on me against her simple.
Adi and Tarun What
Adi: How dare you do that to Bani? And goes to hold his collar. And you were trying to protect him by not saying how he got you to do this for him. Why Bani? What are you afraid of? You don't have to worry about a thing I will take care of you.
Jai: he comes close to Bani well seems like you have lot of supporters so what is it going to be Bani. I have kept my word I have already started the proceedings to transfer half the share to your name and a trust fund for your sister's education.
Bani was now perplexed as she knew Jai would destroy anything that came in his way and she had seen that determination in his eyes even which his best friend failed to realize. She didn't want to be the reason for their break up of friendship. Moreover he said finally she will have to come to him and she knew that all doors were closed for her hence she had to accept his proposal but he would have to pay a price for this.
Bani: Uncle I agreed to the proposal out of my free will and you don't have to worry about me. You always said that I knew my way around.
Adi: Are you sure Bani because knowing Jai he is a tough one to handle. And I have a feeling there is more to this than what meets the eye. Bani I will stand by you come what may I had made a promise to your father I will not let any harm come to you.
Jai was now getting mad at Adi.
Jai: If she doesn't have a problem what is your problem.
Adi: You have no right to say that and turns to Bani
Bani: Don't worry uncle I may have given in this time but sure in the end we will see who comes out as the winner.
Adi: saw a sparkle in Bani's eyes and felt something is going on and he was not sure of it. Well I think my friend has met his match isn't it Tarun.
Tarun: Well one thing is for sure this marriage is sure to watch out for. So I am ready to sit back and watch the drama unfold.
Jai: My marriage with Bani doesn't require your both approval only Bani's. I want you both to stop interfering and creating problems between us.
Tarun: Is he always so possessive about her.
Adi: Well little but now I am not sure about anything looking at both of them coming in defense for one another I think we are the outsiders now.

They both leave but Jai stays on to have dinner with Bani. Tony lays out the table for them.

Bani: How did you know that I would not say to Adi uncle the reason I agreed to marry you.
Jai: Give me some credit here Bani. I might have said lot of things to you today. But one thing always I could count on you is that you would never break my trust and what I say personally to you never reaches a third person.
Bani: am I so predictable.
Jai: No it is one of the best qualities that I admire in you. Bani was now just looking at Jai did he just say that he admired her was there some thing in what Pushkar had told in the evening.
Anyhow they had a dinner were Jai kept talking about what all they had to do tomorrow. While Bani was trying to figure out what should be her next move. Bani went to bed with a confused mind that night. While Jai felt much relaxed and knew exactly how he should move.
