Part 9(a):
The doorbell rings. It is raining outside and a cold wind was blowing.
B: Is mausam mein kaun hoga? Tarunji toh aaj subah hi gaye hai aur agele hafte aane wale the.Hmm...(smacking her lips)
She opens the door and is shocked, her eyes wide open, eyeballs popping out, never did she imagine he would turn up at her doorstep ( at least not now), her mouth opens and she gasps,
B: Aap?
B: Aap yahen kiya kar raho ho?
Bani to herself, "oh god, I am not ready for this. What am I going to do?"
He looks at her figure, looks straight into her eyes. Her eyes, the windows of her soul. His favourite attribute of hers. He just wanted to run into her arms and give her the longest and tightest embrace in the world, never to let her go but those eyes expressed her shock and her sadness as well. He read her like a book. Here he was, standing in the rain on the steps to her abode and there she was his heavenly angel. seems to him they were standing in this manner for ages, finally he spoke.
J: Bani,(he choked couldn't continue he had waited so long for this moment) Drawing back the tears threatening to break loose, he plucked up his courage and put up a brave front.
J: Look Bani, this is not the time to wonder or question, I am all wet here and if I don't get out of these clothes soon, I'll fall sick and guess who'll have to look after me (with a mischevious grin).
Bani moves to the side with her mouth still open not knowing how to react, allowing him to enter.
B: You are so soaked. Didn't you have an umbrella in the car? I"ll get you a towel.
He comes in and she shuts the door.
J: Tha, the car broke down on the way, not far from here thank god, had to call the mechanic to fix it and the umbrella blew away. Walked the rest of the way. The mechanic will bring it over tomorrow.
B: You walked in the rain, pagal ho gaye ho kiya?
Jai to himself: Pagal for you my dear, sirf tumare liye.
J: Bani, I need to get out of these clothes. Could you please be an angel and run the bath for me whilst I rumage through Tarun's wardrobe.
She runs in to turn on the hot water and get the bath running and comes to him with a towel. He is in Tarun's room and has managed to get hold of a loose T-shirt and a loose pair of bermudas (he's a tad big bigger built than Tarun)
B: Yeh lijeye
Hands him the towel.
B: I have started the bath for you it's the second door on your left.
J: Yes , I know been here couple of times before. Thanks .
Bani starts to walk away. He catches her hand. Sends electric waves down her body. She feels week in her knees. Damn him, why does his touch do this to her. Control yourself bani. She could hardly manage a sound like her voice box had given way.
J: Kuch khane ko liye milega. Mujhey bahoot bhukh lagi hai (he winks at her)
In this shock, she had forgotten, she had guests in the living room. Rahul and Aaman were there. She had invited them for dinner. She had wanted to talk to Aaman about his offer. Some details she had to clarify. Dada and Dadi had gone to a friend's residence for some prayers.
Seeing the dining table set for dinner, she suddenly remembered. She instructed Sunaina, the helper to place an additional setting at the table and made her way into the living room.
A: Who was that (referring to the doorbell)?
B: Tarunji ka dost. He will be joining us for dinner. (She didn't lie, she hated lies) He was all drenched and has gone to freshen up.
B: (looks at Rahul) so what are you watching?
She wanted to change the subject. she didn't quite know how to introduce him to Aaman. She was unsure of both their reactions. Confusion, confusion, massive confusion. Aab mein kiya karu?
R: Tom and Jerry (laughing)
Bani ruffles the hair on his head and gives him a hearty laugh. Aaman looks at both of them and joins in the laughter with a warmth in his eyes.
B: I'll go check on dinner, closes the door to the living room. leans against the door and catches her breath. Rubs her hand on her forehead. Why did he need to come here now. As if I don't have enough headaches.
J: Bani!
B: What does he want now?
He comes out of the bathroom.
J: Can you get the helper to wash and dry my clothes. Bani calls sunaina and she attends to Jai's wet clothes ( bani isn't exactly his butler )
J: Khana tayar hai? Smells delicious (taking in a deep breath, he could always identify the smell of her cooking and this had Bani written all over it)I am famished.
B: Ji! Sunaina , khana legado.
B: Mr Walia, I have some guests in the living room and they will be joining us... rather you will be joining us
J: Guests? questioningly. Did they just come? (jai trying to mark his territory perhaps?)
B: I had invited them over.
J: Hmm... looks at himself
J: do I look presentable enough for your guests? smiling at her
B: Not much choice so I guess beggars can't be choosers?
J: Kiya?
Just then Aaman and Rahul come out of the living room.
R: Mujhey bahoot bhookh lagi hai ( runs towards Bani)
Bani lifts Rahul up into her arms.
Jai turns to look at the figure of the man approaching them.
His smile fades and an angry look sets in.
