She clamped her eyes shut, it was all just a dream, an imagination, when she opened her eyes, he would be gone…but he was still there, dressed in his trademark black and talking to someone on his mobile…even from the other side of the hall, there was no denying it was him – Jai Walia…

Seeing Jai end the call, Bani seemed to back to her senses, he was turning around and if he saw her…not even wanting to think about it, Bani spun round and hurried up the stairs - fighting the crowd of women coming the other way, eager to get a good view of the ring ceremony…

She reached the end of the landing and hastily opened the door…slamming it shut behind her, Bani leant her back against the door, chest heaving as if she had a run a mile…

Trying to steady her breathing, Bani swept her eyes over the room she had just entered and realised it was the bathroom…wearily, she moved towards the sink and let the tap loose…splashing her face with water, she closed her eyes, the water feeling cool on her face and neck, drenching the top of her blouse…

Suddenly the image of him downstairs, talking on his mobile, flashed in front of her…after such a long time, here, the place where she thought she would be safe…she felt bile rising in her throat and retched in the sink…

Hands shaking and her face now pale, Bani cleaned herself up and looked in the mirror…her eyes flitted towards her forehead which was now devoid of 'Sindoor'…she remembered how he had once looked at her lovingly and filled her maang…but it couldn't have been love, all that was a farce…

Her legs finally gave way and she lay crumpled on the floor, salty tears now running freely down her face and blurring her vision…

There was a soft knock on the other side of the door, but Bani was oblivious to it…on not hearing a answer, the door slowly opened and Sameer cautiously stepped inside…his eyes darted from the sink – where the tap was running freely – to the Bani, lying in a heap on the floor and weeping openly…

Alarmed, he rushed over to her and shook her gently…

S: Bani…Bani, are you okay?!

Concerned, he pulled her closer and wrapped his arms round her…her forehead rested on his shoulder and he held her close, allowing her to let her emotions out in the form of tears…

B: Damn!

Bani clutched the railing running alongside the stone steps and picked up her right foot…sighing in exasperation she took her shoe off and realised her heel had broken…frustrated she removed her left shoe as well and rushed up the remainder of the steps barefoot – shoulder's hunched and head ducked in a futile attempt to stay somewhat dry from the rain…

Pushing open the glass door to her office, Bani shoved her useless shoes in a nearby bin and nodded at the various workers who bid her good morning…

B: Krishna…please get me some coffee!

The poen nodded and hurried away to get Bani a hot cup…

S: Hey beautiful!

Bani turned round and raised her eyebrows at Sameer who was grinning down at her…barefoot, cold and totally drenched to the skin, Bani knew she looked far from beautiful at the moment…

S: What happened?!

Bani sighed and took the cup of coffee from Krishna before starting to make her way to the cabin…

B: My car broke down…and on top of that the stupid bus and taxi strike…I had to walk it all the way here in the rain!

S: A morning walk never hurt anyone!

Sameer gave a cheeky grin and ducked as Bani attempted to hit him with a file…

B: So what's new?!

S: We have a new partner…He'll be working with you as Mr. Oberoi is out of town at the moment…

Bani frowned as she racked her brain for any information on a new partner…finally she remembered…

B: Oh yeah…but, weren't we just talking about it last month?!

Sameer nodded…

S: Yes…But he was quite eager to start straightaway and we finalised the deal a few days ago…

B: Where was I?!

S: Shimla restaurants…

Bani nodded and Sameer watched her concerned…It had been a week since Neha's engagement and even though he knew Bani had been under a lot of stress lately, this was the first time she had been so open about her emotions in front of him…she hadn't told him what had caused the flood of tears, and he hadn't asked, instead Bani had busied herself with even more work than ever before…

S: Bani…you really need to slow down…

She smiled at him as she finished of her coffee…

B: Neha said the same thing…anyway, how's the new partner?!

Sameer knew she was trying to change the subject, but decided it would be wiser to drop the topic right now…

S: Uhh……….He's middle aged, business tycoon from Mumbai…own a lot of hotel and restaurants all over India, though this will be his first step in to the market over here…

Bani nodded, he sounded like a lot of the other businessmen she had met over the last two years…they turned the corner and her cabin came in to sight…pushing the door open she turned round to Sameer and asked…

B: What's his name?!

S: He's…

Sameer was cut short by Bani who had finally realised that there was someone in her cabin…she froze and choked out the word –

B: Jai…?!

Jai Walia looked up from the file he had been reading and stood up…there was a small smile on his face but his eyes were hard…

J: Good to see you again…Miss. Dixit…

I know you guys were expecting a confrontation..........but kya kare........just wanted to make you wait the little bit longer!😆
