FINAL CHAPTER
Every corner of Walia House was filled with laughing and chattering people. The house was decorated with lights and Walia parivaar was celebrating Diwali in the most magnificent way that Mumbai had ever seen.
Jai, fiddling in his cupboard: Bani…?! Bani…??!!!
Bani, rushes into the room carrying her daughter in one arm and Jai's scarf in the other.
Jai: Tumhaare paas hai!! Kabse yeh scarf dhoondh raha tha!!
Bani: Aapke sherwani ke saath hi rakha tha, lekin aapki yeh beti aap ki tarah bahut badmaash hai, leke bhaag gayi thi!!
Jai, in mock anger: Khabardaar meri Krishna ke baare me kuch kaha toh! Tumne hi theek se rakha nahi hoga!
He takes Krishna into his arms and settles her on his lap while Bani quickly puts her jewellery on to match the stunning maroon and gold sari she is wearing.
Jai, rubbing his nose with his 3 yr old daughter's: Mamma bahut pareshaan karti hai na aapko?! Chalo hum Mamma se bilkul bhi baat nahin karte!!
Bani shakes her head: Aap hi ne bigaad diya hai usse!
Jai and Krishna both stick their tongue out at Bani behind her back but she catches sight of them in the mirror.
They both put on the most innocent and angelic faces before she can turn around and even begin to admonish them, and then start giggling with each other as soon as she turns back to the mirror again.
Rano comes running into the room.
Rano: Kya Didi? Aap abhi tak taiyyar ho rahi hai? Sab mehmaan aap dono ko hi dhoondh rahe hai!
Krishna, excitedly clapping her hands, in her cute totli zabaan: Mashi Mashi Mashi!!!
Jai puts her onto the floor and she toddles over to Rano, pulling on her dupatta, wanting to be picked up.
Jai: Ab tumhi usse neeche le jao Rano, usse Papa se pyaari unki Maasiya hi to hai!!
Rano giggles: Hum Dixit behene kuch cheez hi aisi hoti hai Jiju!!
Bani begins giggling too and Jai makes a face. He waits for Rano to leave, naughty neice in tow!
Moving behind Bani he pushes her hair to the side and proceeds to untie and then re-tie the dori of her sari blouse.
Bani: Kya kar rahe ho Jai, Pia ne bandh di thi!!
Jai, smirking: Pia ne theek se nahin kiya tha!
He kisses her back, wraps his arms around her waist, and nuzzles her neck, sending shivers down her spine.
Jai: Looking very sexy Mrs Walia!
Bani makes a face in the mirror: I know Mr Walia! Yeh sari pehchaanli?
Jai, grins at her in the mirror: Kaise bhool sakta hoon! Yeh sari toh maine tumhe tumhaare janamdin pe di thi, exactly 5 months, 1 week, and 2 days ago!
Bani: Bahut achchi yaadasht hai aapki!
Jai: It's not the sari that made it memorable - it was the woman in it… although to be fair, she wasn't in it for very long!!
Bani hits him on the shoulder: Badmaash!! Whose fault was that?!
Jai pulls her backwards into a hug again. He places a hand over her stomach and Bani covers his hand with hers.
Jai whispers: Sunna mere honewale bete, aap ki honewali Mamma aisi hi hai, apni ghalati kabhi maanti hi nahin!!
Bani, smiling: Aapko kaise pata ke beta hi hoga? Aapne toh kaha tha aapko surprise chaahiye!
Jai: Tumne bhi toh yahi kaha tha, phir chori-chupe Doctor se poonch aayi thi!
Bani opens her mouth in mock-shock!
Jai: Kyun Mrs Walia, aapko kya lagta hai only you can be sneaky?!!
He kisses her neck and she smiles shyly like a schoolgirl. What was it about him that made her feel 16 even though she was almost 30?!!
Bani pushes him away: Ab chhodo bhi, aur neeche chalo, sab intezaar kar rahe honge!
Jatin loudly: KNOCK KNOCK!!
Bani blushes as Jai greets Jatin with a warm hug.
Jai: Kaise ho yaar? Bahut dino baad nazar aaye ho?!
Jatin: Voh… main… abhi abhi Hyderabad se lauta hoon…
Jai looks puzzled and then smiles widely: Hyderabad?! Iska matlab…?!!
Bani, frustrated, looking back and forth at them high-fiveing each other: Kya hai?! What do you know that I don't?!
Jatin, turning towards the door: Amisha!
A beautiful young girl (Suhaana from Bhabhi / Kali from Kkusum) walks into the room and very shyly comes to stand next to Jatin.
Bani walks up to Jatin and twists his ear hard!
Bani: Apne liye ladki chunli aur mujhe bataaya bhi nahin??!!!! Achchi dosti nibhaayi hai!
Jai: Bani-
Bani: Aap to mujhse baat hi mat kijiye, aapko sab pata tha aur aapne bhi kuch nahi kaha?!!
Jatin and Jai laugh at her annoyance, irritating her more.
Jatin: Tumhe surprise dena chahte the Bani! Kaisi lagi meri pasand?
Bani shakes her head at them and smiles at Amisha: Kitni sundar ho tum, iss langoor ke saath kya kar rahi hoon?!
Amisha giggles. Jatin: Hey!!
Bani takes a small box out of her bedside cabinet.
Bani, placing the box in Amisha's hand: Jatin aur meri bahut puraani dosti hai. Apne aap ko ek duje ke parivaar ka hissa maante hai. Yeh tumhaare liye.
Amisha opens the box and sees a beautiful gold ganpati murti smiling back at her.
Amisha: Ye main aapse kaise le sakti hoon Didi?!
Bani: Didi kehdiya toh mana bhi nahin kar sakti.
The four of them walk downstairs. Jai watches as Bani takes Amisha away to introduce her to the rest of the family and her friends.
He looks across the room to Rano-Saahil and a very pregnant Pia, playing with Krishna… who is laughing and clapping as she pulls Saahil's hair…
Jigs and Adi, Dadi and Massi, lighting diye in the mandir…
Ranveer, Pushkar, soon joined by Jatin - deep in a conversation that soon has them all in splits of laughter…
After so long… so long… everything in his life was perfect. His friends, his family, everyone was together. Parivaar badhe, rishton ke beech dooriya mitti… aur is sab ki vajah – Mrs Bani Jai Walia.
Through the good times, the bad, the highs and the lows, they had stayed together, each problem strengthening their relationship. He couldn't remember what his life had been like before he met her… and he didn't want to! He would never have imagined in his wildest dreams that the the girl who had come to ask him for a place to stay with her sisters so many years ago would become the centre of his universe.
All those times he had scorned the idea of love… but then, this relationship was much more than love – trust, apnaapan, dependence, his conscience, his soul, his biggest supporter and his harshest critic – Bani was all of these. She wasn't just his wife… she was his humsafar in every way – in the truest sense of the word.
Ek majboori se bana rishta ban gaya jeevan ka sabse mazboot sahaara – shayad yahi toh pyaar hai!
