Jai sipped his whiskey, he just could not believe it, his wife is pregnant, his wife Bani is pregnant…Is this a joke, why is God being unkind to me, what have I done to be once again ridiculed in this marriage, first his fiance ditched him in the alter and now his wife whom he married for the sake of his image, the elder sister of his fiance is pregnant…no there is nothing wrong with his manhood only that they are yet to consummate their marriage, drained and fatigued, he just wanted this world to end…..
It has been only for last two weeks or so they were getting close, coming to an understanding, he was feeling this girl is not at fault, what will she do if her sister chose to leave me in a lurch, today because of her I am saved my grace, my family name. He was in fact toying with the idea if he should at all go ahead with this marriage instead of freeing Bani from all obligations, after all she does deserve better, but then his heart was not with his mind, whenever Bani happened to be near him, his heart went thud, thud thud…..he wanted to tell her so many things but his tongue got tied, how to proceed how to break the invisible barrier which was still there in the shape of his hesitation and her fear of his wrath…..
That evening he had bought a single rose from the man selling flowers at the traffic signal much to the amusement of Aditya, who looked on with his brows raised…..it is never too late to start Jai and I should be a happy man…..
Jai did not say anything, he kept quiet trying to imagine Bani's face when he hands over the flower….

Oh Jai bhaiya you have come, congratulations your wife is pregnant, I happened to go for my annual checkup when the nurse handed over me this report saying same house if I will take it, the pregnancy report of Mrs Bani Jai Walia……pregnancy test positive, Jigyasa waved the report in front of his face, he grabbed it well indeed it was so……
Bani? He called in a thundering voice….
Ji Mr Walia….she answered calmly from somewhere……
He held the report and his temper rose seeing she was not looking guilty…..

Finishing the last sip with a long drag he threw the glass on the floor it shattered into pieces……just then with the clicking of the door, Aditya entered…..
Jai….Jai please get up and stop Jigyasa she is simply going to kill the girl….

But Jai, I mean you have been drinking too much lately, you know sometimes these things happen without your knowledge, I mean…..
Aditya you are father of three children and don't tell me you have no clue as to how they were conceived….

I may be drunk but that does not mean I will not have the knowledge when I make love to my wife for the first time, I don't just simply recollect one such incident and Aditya the days of Virgin Mary are gone, I am too old a man to believe in such stories, somehow I don't see Bani to be Mary……he added sarcastically…..
Just then the study door once again opened, who the hell is disturbing me, he shouted, leave me alone…..
Mamaji, Bani Mami is leaving the house, Anu cried is desperation….

Bani is not pregnant, Bani is not pregnant, the pain seem to leave him….it is Anu….ANU, a knife again was pierced…..ANU how could you he turned…..

He stood in the doorway, she was locking the suitcase and as she picked it up, he caught her hand…she looked up to him, he stared back..I am sorry he said, I know you have every right to be upset with me, I did not trust you but he could not say further……he lowered his eyes, yes he should have given her a hearing after all they are husband and wife it whatever sense it must be…..when he saw Bani holding the battered rose in front of him…..
He looked up, she was smiling, not exactly a happy one but then ……I know how you feel Mr Walia, just like this rose, beautiful but battered just like our marriage, the moment we seem to know and come closer to each other, something happens our trust level is shaken, we retreat to our shell…..we move apart
Jai took the flower, if we cannot trust each other then it is our fault why blame others…..but it seems to me that I am always at the fault…..
She touched his mouth with her hand….
Not always….she whispered, she had a mysterious glint in her eye
He raised his brow in question….
I…I did not like Roshni coming too close to you…she confessed….
Jai laughed aloud, taking her hand and bringing her closer….. if you have told me I would have chased her out of the house long back….he whispered….

Raising his hands he pushed back her hair, cupping her face with his hands he said, Anu said she is pregnant you are not, I was relieved to hear it Bani, is it wrong? To be relieved to hear it is Anu and not you…..
Bani lowered her gaze, Anu is like your daughter I know but I understand what it is to find your wife could be pregnant with someone else's child…
He traced her lips with the rose……Bani can we take an oath today whatever it may come you and I will at least talk and hide nothing from each other…..
"On this day of June 19th, 2006 we take an oath that as we move forward in our marriage we will ….they took the oath and then Bani said, don't you want to seal the oath Mr Walia….
Jai needed no further invitation he lowered his lips to capture hers

I am taking a brief break now as one non JB plot is disturbing my peace so have to take it out from my system hence started writing it, I will of course write few more of these time to time before June 19th and will post it once I do...till then thanks and love Tin
