Chapter 11

JAI:
Hello!
BANI:
What are you doing here?
JAI:
I've been invited. By Pushkar.
BANI:
Why did that fool invite you?
JAI:
I'm sorry?
BANI:
Please can you let me go.

Jai took his hands off Bani's waist and didn't let her go till she was stable on two feet. Bani was leaving to go to Anita's room when Jai called out to her.

JAI:
Bani can you forgive me? Please?
BANI:
Why? How would you feel if someone insulted you so much that you were ashamed to be yourself? That's what I thought.

Bani turned to head up the rest of the stairs.

JAI:
Please don't go. If you feel that bad then give me a punishment. I'll accept it.
BANI:
Look. You'll never understand how I feel because you've never been in my place. Girls have always been hovering around you but I've always been insulted. For some reason whenever anyone was mean about how I looked I laughed it out. But what you said to me was the most harshest.
JAI:
Yeah, but I feel very, very, very sorry.

He looked at Bani with a sorry face hoping it would break her stubbornness.

JAI:
Give me any punishment.
BANI(THINKING):
Wow, he looks really sorry. Does he really think I won't forgive him when he looks at me with those puppy dog eyes. Oh God what shall I do? If I forgive him then it would have been pointless to change myself. Not to mention Pia and Rano wouldn't leave me. If I don't forgive him then he's going to keep on looking at me with those sweet eyes that I can't resist.
BANI:
Look, Jai.

Jai put his head down knowing what she was going to say.

BANI:
You're a playboy even though you look like you feel really sorry so I................. forgive you.

Surprised Jai lifted his head up to find that Bani was walking quickly to Anita's room.

JAI:
Thanks Bani.

He looked at her and had a big smile on her face.

JAI:
There is something different about her.

BANI:
Hey guys.

Said Bani as she entered Anita's room.

ANITA:
What took you so long.
BANI:
Well......................I..................................................
PIA:
It's futile to ask her she takes a long time in doing anything.

Bani looked at Pia.

PIA:
What?
RANO:
Di. Don't look at her like that. You know that you do. Ok, don't look at me like that. It's creepy di.
PIA:
Don't look at her like that. She will have nightmares..........................................about you!

Pia and Anita started laughing.

RANO:
Pia di!
PIA:
Sorry, sorry. I didn't know you'd get that offended.
BANI:
Look I.......................................... Ok. I do take a long time. But I do everything neatly and make sure everything is organized.
ANITA:
Enough of this chit chat. Put these pillows on that bed. Along with this duvet.
BANI:
So, where's everyone sleeping?
PIA:
Well me and you are sleeping on this nice pink bed that Anita's dad picked up from the guest room last night.
ANITA:
And me and Rano are sleeping on this amazing white flowered bed.
BANI:
What about Roshni?
RANO:
We've arranged something special for her.
BANI:
Let me guess. Pia planned this special thing for her.
PIA:
I would have but couldn't.
BANI:
What do you mean?
ANITA:
Well, let's just say luck is favoring our side today.
BANI:
You guys better not have planned anything mean.
RANO:
Di, first make up your mind about whether you like her or not.
PIA:
Yeah. In front of her you act all nice and then behind her back you call her a witch.
BANI:
Fine, point taken. But she is going to ruin our sleepover because now we can't talk about any personal secrets in front of her.
PIA:
Talk about the witch and here she comes.
BANI:
Promise not to reveal?
ANITA+RANO+PIA:
Promise.
ROSHNI:
Hey guys.
ALL:
Hi.
PIA:
Had a nice time with Pushkar?
ROSHNI:
Not really.
PIA:
Great.
ROSHNI:
It was amazing!
ANITA:
What do you mean?
ROSHNI:
Well. Pushkar and Jai started to fight over me.
BANI:
What?
ROSHNI:
Yeah. They were both saying that they were a better boyfriend for me.
RANO:
No way.
ROSHNI:
Now who knows. By the end of this sleepover I could end up being the girlfriend of either one of them. I might break up with Pushkar and return to Jai or stay with Pushkar and tell Jai to leave us alone.
BANI+PIA:
Witch!
ROSHNI:
Did you say something.
PIA:
Yeah. We were just saying that we're going to have a wonderful time.
ROSHNI:
Oh, that's so sweet.
RANO:
So Anita what have you got planned.
ANITA:
That, you will find out later. Good, you've finished putting on the duvet. Sleeping arrangements are all done.
ROSHNI:
Great! Where am I sleeping?
PIA:
On the floor!
ROSHNI:
What! I can't sleep on the floor. I'm used to a nice comfy bed.
BANI:
It's the only place you can sleep.
ANITA
: Yeah, because me and Rano are sleeping on that bed and Bani and Pia are sleeping on this one.
ROSHNI:
I don't want to sleep on the floor!
BANI:
But, we've made a sleeping area for. A pillow, mattress and a duvet.
RANO:
You decided to come last minute.
PIA:
We told you that you can't come because there's no room. But you and Pushkar were so desperate to get you to sleepover and we've had to do everything for you last minute, so enjoy!
ROSHNI:
Idea! I can sleep in the guest room.
BANI:
Ok, if you really want to.
ROSHNI:
Oh I want to.
ANITA:
Ok then get this mattress, pillow and duvet and shift them to the guest room for you to sleep on, Ok?
ROSHNI:
Why? I'm going to sleep in that room, on that bed so why the mattress.
PIA:
Because you're going to sleep on the floor, not on the bed.
BANI:
Because we have the bed, right Pia?
PIA:
Right, di.
ROSHNI:
What do you mean?
ANITA:
Let me explain in words you understand. My dad helped me move the bed from the guest room into my room so Pia and Bani can sleep on it.
ROSHNI:
Shit! I don't want to sleep on the floor. It would be horrible.
PIA:
There's nowhere else. It's the only option.
ROSHNI:
Well can't you or Bani sleep on the floor and me on the bed with the other.
BANI+PIA:
NO!
ROSHNI:
Why not?
PIA:
You see, I have back problems. Sleeping on a hard surface would just not do it for me and the doctor's said that I SHOULD NOT sleep on the floor.
ROSHNI:
Ok, Bani?

Bani just looked at Pia.

BANI(THINKING):
Thanks a lot Pia, that was going to be my excuse.
PIA(THINKING):
Sorry di, I had to get rid of this witch.

Roshni turned her head to look at Pia.

ROSHNI:
She'll be ok with that, won't she?

Bani looked at Pia and mouthed

BANI:
Help me!
PIA:
No, not really because di has neck problems. The pillow is on a hard surface and that does not do good to her neck. The next day her neck will be stiff and she will stay still like a statue then what will our parents say to Anita's. We gave our daughter to you for one night and this is how you take care of her?
ANITA:
We definitely don't want that.

Bani was smiling all the way through the conversation as were the rest of them when Roshni wasn't looking at them.

ROSHNI:
Anita?
ANITA:
My house, my room, my bed, end of.
ROSHNI:
Well what about........................................................
PIA:
Don't even think about asking her. If you say anything she will explode.
BANI:
Yup. Rano gets offended really quickly.
ROSHNI:
No harm in asking. Rano, you wouldn't mind sleeping on the floor would you?
RANO:
Look. We made this plan first and you decided to come later. That's not our fault. When we told you there was no room, you still insisted on coming and making room Well let me tell you this is where you have to sleep, next time open you ears and listen.
BANI:
Ok, Rano calm down.
RANO:
Whatever. I'll go and put our toothpaste and brushes in the bathroom.
BANI:
I'll come with you.
ANITA:
Me too, I will show you where to put it.

Bani, Anita and Rano went leaving Pia and Roshni in the room.

ROSHNI:
This is going to be a long night.

PIA(THINKING):Yeah well you're not going to be thrilled about any part of it. You'll wish you never came.

PIA:
Yup.
ROSHNI:
What are we going to do?
PIA:
Don't ask me. Anita planned it all. Is Pushkar calling you?
ROSHNI:
I think so. Wonder where he'll be.
PIA:
He could be in the store room, I saw him there earlier. For some odd reason he was cleaning it and making it look all nice.
ROSHNI:
Could be for me?
PIA:
Well I think he's calling you?
ROSHNI:
Yeah. Maybe he wants to make out. Bye.

Roshni went into the store room looking for Pushkar.

ROSHNI:
Hello? Pushkar are you in here? Pushkar.

Suddenly the door closed with a big bang. Roshni ran to the door.

ROSHNI:
Hey, open the door! Let me out! Let me out! Who is it? I demand to be let out right now.

Pia stood outside the door where she threw the keys into the air and then caught them.

PIA:
This is only the beginning Roshni. Wait till you see what else I have planned.

ANITA:
What's this Bani?
BANI:
This is my personal, private journal, which should not be touched or read by anyone.
ANITA:
Sorry, sorry.
RANO:
Di is too possessive about that.
BANI:
Hey it's my life.
RANO
: Only because Jai Walia is in it.
ANITA:
Really?
RANO:
Yep. Ever since di saw him she only writes about him.
BANI:
Rano!
RANO:
What? I don't think you've ever wrote about us in there.
BANI:
I have, actually.
RANO:
Really, show me.

Bani stepped back and put the diary behind her back.

BANI:
No Rano. You have that look in your eyes.
RANO:
What di? Come on let me look in it.
BANI:
No.
RANO:
Di, you've never been good at sports. So I guess you can't run away from me.

Bani realized what Rano meant and made a run for it.

BANI:
Rano no!
RANO:
Di, just one look.
BANI:
Never!

Rano chased Bani all over the bedroom with Anita in the middle of it all till Bani went into the bathroom and locked the door.

BANI:
Now you'll never get to see inside it.
RANO:
Di, open the door.
BANI:
Never!
RANO:
Please di. It's not funny. I want to see what's inside it.
BANI:
I don't think so!
PIA:
Hey Anita. What's all the fuss?
ANITA:
One word. Diary.
PIA:
Not again.
ANITA:
Bani, come out. We still have to put away all of your stuff. My room looks like a pigsty. I need to clean it up.
BANI:
I'm not falling for it.
RANO:
Lets put everything away.

PIA:
Finally, everything is cleared.
RANO:
Yup.
ANITA:
Has anyone see Roshni. She's been gone like two hours.
RANO:
No. We've been in here with you.
ANITA:
Pia, she was with you. Where is she now.
PIA:
Lets just say she'll be a while.
ANITA:
And by that you mean……………………………….....
PIA:
She's gone to your brother.
ANITA:
Why, why, why, why, why? Couldn't she have gone off with someone else. My brother would have been better off with one of you.
PIA:
Yeah. He could have done a WHOLE lot better.
ANITA:
I know. Now I have to tolerate her.
PIA:
Not for long.
RANO:
Why do you say that?
PIA:

RANO:
You've done something to her haven't you?
PIA:

ANITA:
What have you done?
PIA:
I locked her in the store room!
RANO+ANITA:
WHAT!

ROSHNI:
Let me out!

She kicked the door with her foot.

ROSHNI:
Ouch! Great, this had to happen to me and my beautiful foot.

Hopping Roshni found a chair. She took off the white scarf around her neck and placed it on the chair.

ROSHNI:
No one can hear me, how will I get out?

She sat on the chair thinking that she needed to rest her foot when

ROSHNI:
AAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

She fell on the floor with a loud thud.

ROSHNI:
Great just great. Ow, my bum.

Roshni got up in a huff.

ROSHNI:
That's it. I am going to open this door no matter what happens.

Roshni got a grip of the door handle and tried to open it to no avail. She tried again by pulling the door handle down really hard hoping it would open the door.

ROSHNI:
Oh no! This had to happen. I just got a manicure done and now I break my nail! What should I do now?

Roshni paced up and down when she came to a conclusion.

ROSHNI:
I know! I'll go to the other end of the room and there might be another door. It's dumm but it just might work.

Roshni started to walk forward in the opposite direction to the door. Making sure she didn't bang into anything she got to the end only to find that it was a dead end.

ROSHNI:
Wonderful (!) I'm stuck.

She turned around to go back to the door only to find a spider coming down from the ceiling.

ROSHNI:
Oh God! Ok Roshni just stay calm. Just walk around it calmly.

Roshni walked round the spider and then ran screaming like an idiot.

ROSHNI:
AAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH! Help! Please get me out of here! There's a really big spider! Ok. I'll just have to break the door down.

Roshni went back and then charged towards the door which opened really easily and she fell on the floor.

ROSHNI:
OUCH!
PUSHKAR:
Oh my God! Are you ok?
ROSHNI:
No!

Roshni got up.

PUSHKAR:
How did you end up in the store room? And what have you done to yourself?
ROSHNI:
Me? There's a huge spider in there.

Pia came out of the store room holding a little baby spider.

PIA:
You got scared of this cutie?
ROSHNI:
Well…………….I……………………..
ANITA:
It's ok. Hota hai.
ROSHNI:
No. It looked bigger in the dark.
RANO:
Sure it did.
PUSHKAR:
How did you end up here?
ROSHNI:
Looking for you.
PUSHKAR:
Me? I was in my room. Where you left me, Jai and Sahil.
ROSHNI:
But Pia said she saw you in the store room. She said you were sort of cleaning it out.
PUSHKAR:
She did, did she?
ROSHNI:
Yes.
PIA:
Yeah.
PUSHKAR:
Oh did you now?
PIA:
I think.
SAHIL:
No. That was me.
PIA:
Really?
SAHIL:
I was finding an extra sheet.
PIA:
Oh. I thought it was Pushkar.
ANITA:
Well. Enough of this chit chat. Come on girls. We have a sleep over to get on with.
PIA:
Plus, di is still in the bathroom and we have to get her out.
RANO:
I think she's going to stay in there the whole night.
ANITA:
Come on.

Anita, Pia and Rano started to leave.

ROSHNI:
Wait for me guys.
PUSHKAR:
Sahil lets go.

Pushkar ran up to his room.

PIA:
Lets get something to eat and then go. Roshni, you go we'll follow.

Roshni went limping up the stairs.

Everyone burst out laughing.

RANO:
Oh di! You're so funny.
ANITA:
Did you see the way she was limping up the stairs. Like an old woman.
PIA:
I couldn't do it without Sahil. Thanks for covering up for me.
SAHIL:
No problem. It was worth it. Besides you're Rano's sister so I can do at least that much.
PIA:
Well thanks again.
ANITA:
Come on. Lets go to the kitchen.
SAHIL:
Wait Rano. Can I talk to you for a minute?

Rano looked at Pia and Anita.

ANITA:
It's ok Rano. We'll wait for you in the kitchen.

Anita and Pia went.

RANO:
Um, what did you want to talk to me for?
SAHIL:
Well…………….I…………………
RANO:
I, what?
SAHIL:
I wondered if you……………………………..
RANO:
What?
SAHIL:
Would you like to go……………………………..
RANO:
Out?
SAHIL:
Yes.
RANO:
Um…. Well I'm not sure.
SAHIL:
Oh. That's ok.

Sahil looked down dejected. Rano put her hand on Sahil's chin and lifted his head up.

RANO:
I like the watching movies.
SAHIL:
So that's a yes?
RANO:
A firm one.

Rano was leaving but then Sahil held her wrist and pulled her back.

SAHIL:
Meet me here tonight?
RANO:
Why?
SAHIL:
I need to talk. I hear girls are good at listening to problems.
RANO:
Ok. I'll see you on the balcony.
SAHIL:
Don't make me wait.
RANO:
Don't worry. I won't.

ANITA:
Do you really think he likes her?
PIA:
No doubt. I can see it in his eyes.
ANITA:
Just the way I can see it in yours.
PIA:
What can you see?
ANITA:
I can see that you like my brother. A lot.

ANITA:
Eyes!
PIA:
Fine, I do.
ANITA:
I knew it. Otherwise I've never seen you despise someone so much.
PIA:
Well what can I do? Let her take him? Promise you won't tell anyone?
ANITA:

Anita and Pia embraced as Anita said

ANITA:
By the way you two will make a rocking pair.
PIA:
If we even get there.

Pia opened the freezer and took a tub of vanilla ice cream out.

ANITA:
What do you mean?
PIA:
Hand me two spoons.
ANITA:
Here you go. One for me and one for you. Lets sit down on the dining table while you tell me about it.

They walked out of the kitchen where instantly the dining tables was.

PIA:
Your brother is not as good as you think he is. He's playing games with me, which is why he is using Roshni.
ANITA:
He's always like that.
PIA:
If he's going to use Roshni to try and get at me then see what I will do.
ANITA:
What are you going to do?
PIA:
I've got a few tricks up my sleeve.
ANITA:

PIA:

They both laughed as Rano entered the room.

RANO:
Hey guys. What's up?
ANITA:
Nothing. What's up with you?
RANO:

PIA:
Don't lie.
RANO:

Said Rano as she sat down.

ANITA:
So, when did it start.
RANO:
I don't know it just happened. He's asked me to go out and I've said yes.
ANITA+PIA:
What?
RANO:
Yes. We're going to the movies.
BANI:
Hey guys.
ANITA
: Hey, sit down.
BANI:
What's going on?
PIA:
Rano's got a date.
BANI:
With who?
ANITA:
Sahil.
PIA:
They're going to the movies.
BANI:
Pia.

Said Bani as she signaled her.

BANI+PIA:
Rano and Sahil sitting in a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G!
RANO:
Stop it.
ANITA:
Yeah. Leave her alone.
RANO:
He might not even like me.
BANI:
Why do you think that?
RANO:
He hasn't said he likes me or loves me.
PIA:
So do you want him to like you……………………………….
ANITA:
Or love you?
RANO:
It's the same thing.
BANI:
But there's a difference. Like can be anything. Likes you one minute and another the other minute.
PIA:
But love is a feeling within the heart that no matter what happens your love for one special person will exceed all limits and will never go less. Instead it will grow with time.

They all looked at Pia.

PIA:
Hey, I can be deep.
RANO:
I don't know.
BANI:
how do you feel?
RANO:
I won't know till he tells me how he feels.
ANITA
: When will that be exactly?
RANO:
Tonight. No interfering and definitely no peeking. I'll tell you what happens.
PIA:
Ok, no problem. Besides me and Anita have other plans.
BANI:
Yeah. Sleeping. Come on. That witch will be waiting.

They all walked up the stairs towards Anita's room.

BANI:
I can't believe you left me with that witch.
PIA:
You decided to stay in the bath room.
BANI:
I heard screaming before. What was it?
RANO:
That's a long story.
BANI:
Tell me.
ANITA:
Ok. What happened was………………………………......

Anita filled up Bani on what happened and they laughed uncontrollably as they got to Anita's room. They opened the door to see what Roshni was doing. They entered the room to find her sleeping on Bani and Pia's bed.

PIA:
Can you believe her?
BANI:
Why did she have to get her big ass and sleep on ours.

Everyone stared at Bani.

BANI:
What? I'm angry. I believe that's a reasonable excuse.
PIA:
Well, I know exactly what to do.

Pia climbed on the bed and rolled Roshni off onto the floor as she fell with a loud thud.

RANO:
Guess we know she weighs a ton.
ROSHNI:
Ouch!
BANI:
Are you ok? You rolled off in your sleep. We tried to help you but you were too heavy.
PIA:
I know. She weighs a ton.
ROSHNI:
Yeah, yeah whatever.
PIA:
If you're feeling sleepy then go and sleep on your bed. It's there on the floor.
ROSHNI:
Ok.

Said Roshni with a depressed look on her face. Bani, Anita, Pia and Rano all had a grin on their face. Everyone climbed into their beds and went to sleep. At 12 o'clock Rano got up and went to the balcony to see Sahil but she didn't find him there.

RANO:
I knew that idiot was going to be late.
SAHIL:
Oh come on. I'm not that much of an idiot.

Said Sahil as Rano jumped.

RANO:
Oh my gosh! You scared me.
SAHIL:
Hey I wasn't late. I've been waiting here ever since we've talked.
RANO:
Why?
SAHIL:
Because I couldn't wait to see you.
RANO:
Aw! That's so sweet.

Sahil held Rano's hand and sat on a swing that was there. It rocked back and forth as Rano and Sahil looked at each other's eyes.

RANO:
So what did you want to talk to me about.
SAHIL:
I think I might be coming down with something.

Rano leaned over and checked Sahil's forehead.

RANO:
You don't feel warm.
SAHIL:
That's because the problem is in here.
RANO:
In where?
SAHIL:
In here.
RANO:
Have you ever felt like that before?
SAHIL:
No. But you know what there are so many symptoms.
RANO:
Like?

Sahil got up rested his and on the railing. He looked up at the sky.

SAHIL:
Well I can't sleep I only have one image in my head. I can't eat or drink. I can't concentrate on anything. My heart beats fast.

Rano came stood next to him and he faced her.

RANO:
This happens with everyone.
SAHIL:
Does it?
RANO:
Not really. It's a rare disease. Only a few people get it. If it doesn't stop then you can die. It's deadly and dangerous.

Said Rano as she burst out laughing.

SAHIL:
Ha ha.
RANO:
You've got to be a little more convincing.
SAHIL:
Since it's that dangerous I'll tell you what it is.
RANO:
What?
SAHIL:
I love you.

Rano looked up at him knowing this was the moment she had waited for a long time.

RANO:
I……………………..

Sahil put his finger on her lips.

SAHIL:
SSSSSSHHHHHH.

Said Sahil as they gazed at each other in the eyes, not saying a word.

PIA:
What do you think they will be talking about?
BANI:
I don't know.
ANITA:
I do. They won't be talking but will be gazing into each others eyes.
PIA:
Probably.

Said Pia as the three were huddled together on Anita's bed. They heard Roshni moving and got alarmed. Knowing she was awake and trying to listen to their conversation they deiced to talk really loudly. But first they had to make a plan. They didn't know what to do to fool her till Anita told them about her idea.

BANI:
I don't know.
PIA:
Come on di. Be a little reasonable sometimes.
BANI:
Fine.
PIA:
Now after me start to talk loud. I'll leave and get that guy from Pushkar's bedroom. I can't believe Pushkar called him as a fourth person to sleep over.
ANITA:
Yeah. But it's going to benefit us.
BANI:
Now go.

Pia got up.

PIA(LOUDLY):
Guys I'll see you later. Bye.
BANI+ANITA:
Bye.

Pia left while Bani and Anita continued to talk to trap Roshni in their plan.

BANI:
I wonder what Pia's going to do with him.
ANITA:
Me too.
BANI:
I think they're in love.
ANITA:
I believe it's beyond that.
BANI:
Yeah but they do look good together.
ANITA:
I know. Pushkar and Pia look great together.

Anita and Bani were grinning.

BANI:
Yeah. I wonder how spiced up things are going to get between them tonight.
ANITA:
Well it is a beautiful night. The moon is shining. I wonder what they will be doing in the garden on the porch swing.
BANI:
Yeah. Anyway lets go to sleep and leave her to it.

Bani and Anita didn't talk or move for 5 minutes. Then Roshni got up and went. After she left the room Anita and Bani laughed.

BANI+ANITA:
Mission accomplished.

Roshni ran down the stairs as Bani, Pia and Anita looked at her from a distance. Roshni ran to the garden with Bani, Pia and Anita following her from a distance. Roshni saw Pushkar stood next to the porch swing. Roshni ran to him and hugged him from behind.

ROSHNI:
Thank God you're alone. I was getting worried. I thought you were with another woman. Ok. Now I'm closing my eyes and you have to kiss me.

Roshni closed her eyes and Pushkar kissed her. She opened her eyes only to find that the person she kissed wasn't Pushkar.

ROSHNI:
Rajdeep! UUUGGGHHHH!
RAJDEEP:
Hey. I'm not that bad of a kisser.
ROSHNI:
What are you doing here?
RAJDEEP:
Sleeping over. Hello it's not rocket science.

Everyone came out to the garden.

PUSHKAR:
What's all the commotion Rajdeep?
RAJDEEP:
She felt bad because I kissed her.
PUSHKAR:
Why did you kiss her?
RAJDEEP:
She told me to. Honestly, one minute she wants to come close the next she screams.
PUSHKAR:
Roshni!
ROSHNI:
I thought he was you.
PIA:
Roshni from what angle does he look like Pushkar.
ROSHNI:
But Anita and Bani told me that you were in the garden with Pia.
ANITA:
I never said that.
ROSHNI:

ANITA:
Look I was asleep on my bed with Rano and Bani was asleep on her bed with Pia.

Rano wasn't there.
RANO:
I most certainly was. Want to fight over it?
ROSHNI:
Look. We're all here except Bani. Someone should check to see if she's in her room or not.
JAI:

ROSHNI:
I'm 100% sure she's awake.

I'll go find out, shall I?

Jai went to Anita's room to find Bani asleep on her bed.

JAI(THINKING):
She looks so peaceful and calm. How can anyone look their best when asleep.

Jai left the room as Bani got up and said

BANI:
Thank God he didn't get suspicious.
JAI:
Well I did.

Said Jai as he entered the room.

BANI:
I thought you………………………………..
JAI:
Left? Bani I'm not that dum. Why've you been troubling Roshni?
BANI:
Is it necessary to know.
JAI:
Not really.
BANI:
I guess you're going to tell everyone that we planned all this.
JAI:
Depends.
BANI:
Come on lets get it over with.

Bani and Jai walked all the way to the garden.

ROSHNI:
I knew it! See she's awake.
PIA:
How does that prove anything?
JAI:
Hang on a minute. She just woke up wondering what the screaming was. I've explained everything to her.

Said Jai as he winked at Bani. She grinned.

ANITA:
Roshni, I think you're losing it.
SAHIL:
You must've heard things.
RANO:
Right. Lets go to sleep I'm so tired. Every 2 seconds you scream about something.

Everyone left as the girls went into their room Bani looked at Jai and they both smiled at each other.

That's it I'm taking my things and moving to the guest room.
PIA:
But why?
ROSHNI:
If I start hearing things again then I'll be in trouble. Now I've got to wash out my mouth.

Roshni took her stuff and went to the guest room. Bani closed the door as she left.

ANITA:
Oh my God! Pia that was the most fun I've had in ages.
RANO:
Yeah di.
BANI:
Finally that witch got what she deserved.
PIA:
Come on lets sit on Anita's bed and talk.
RANO:
Yeah. That's what this sleep over is about. Gossiping.

They all sat on Anita's bed.

ANITA:
So Bani, are you giving it to him good?
BANI:
Giving who, what?
ANITA:
Jai.
BANI:
About that………………………………..........................
PIA:
You didn't.
BANI:
I did.
RANO:
Di, how could you?
BANI:
It was his puppy dog eyes.
ANITA:

Suddenly the door opened and Sahil came in making sure no one from outside was watching. He turned around to find everyone staring at him.

SAHIL:
Um, hi guys.
PIA:
Hey Sahil. What you doing here?
SAHIL:

ANITA:
Came to meet someone?
SAHIL:

BANI:
Make up your mind.

Rano was just looking at Sahil, smiling.

PIA:
Looks like we're not needed here. Lets go do our toothbrush.

Pia nudged Rano as they went into the bathroom. When they got inside they all put their ears next to the door to listen to what Sahil and Rano were going to talk about.

SAHIL:

RANO:
Why are you so nervous?
SAHIL:
I'm not.
RANO:
You are! You weren't like this when expressing your feelings.

Sahil went to Rano and grabbed her.

SAHIL:
How's this for nervous?
RANO:
Sahil, what are you doing? Someone might see.
SAHIL:

ANITA:
Oh God.
PIA:
Wish we could see her face. Right di? Di?
ANITA:

Sahil hugged Rano and she put her arms around him with both of them having their eyes closed.

All three of them got out of the bathroom and stood there looking at Rano and Sahil.

PIA:
(coughs). So Rano, doing anything special?

Sahil and Rano let go of each other.

SAHIL:
Right. I think I should go. Bye Rano.
RANO:
Bye.

Sahil left the room.

BANI:
Rano!
RANO:
What?
PIA:
Getting pretty comfortable were you?
RANO:
I won't leave you today.

Rano grabbed a pillow and chased Pia all over the room. Pia hid behind Bani.

RANO:

PIA:
You can't leave me if you haven't got hold of me.

Rano was aiming to hit Pia but hit Bani accidentally with the pillow.

RANO:
Sorry di.

Said Rano as she giggled.

BANI:
Anita, pass me a pillow.

They all grabbed pillows and ganged up on Rano. They hit her a lot and then tickled her.

RANO:
Stop it.

They all laughed.

BANI:
Ok, lets get to sleep.

They all went to bed. After 5 minutes.

ANITA+PIA+RANO:
STOP TEXTING!
BANI:
Sorry?
PIA:
Di, what are you doing?
BANI:
Texting.
RANO:
Who?
BANI:
Not telling.
PIA:
It doesn't matter.

Pia quickly took the phone off her.

PIA:
Oh my God! You're texting Handsome246 aren't you Cutie342, aren't you?
BANI:

PIA:

Fine. I can't use the computer all the time so I use the internet on my phone to talk to him. That's it.

They all went to sleep. After an hour or two Pia checked the time on her phone.

I think we better get out of here before Rano's snoring kills us.

Yup. Lets be quick.

They got out and stood near the stairs.

PIA:
What's the plan di?
BANI:
I don't know.

Just then Pia got an idea as her face lit up.

What is it?
PIA:
You still like Jai, don't you?
BANI:
Why are you saying that?
PIA:
Because you forgave him.
BANI:

PIA:

BANI:
What's that got to do with anything?
PIA:
Well, remember what Roshni was saying about Pushkar and Jai fighting over her.
BANI:
Yeah.
PIA:
Well then, lets make sure she leaves here without them.
BANI:
She won't. She'll go after them.
PIA:
What if they resent her?
BANI:
Why would they resent a hot girl? Personally, I see a ugly witch.
PIA:
I do too di. They will resent her if she doesn't look so hot anymore.
BANI:
And by that you mean?

Pia told Bani her plan of what they should do.

BANI:
Wow. Great. Is it just me or are you just getting a little too mean?

Yeah. She always had her slimy hands over Jai.

then lets do it.

Making sure they didn't make any noise Pia and Bani went into the guest room where Roshni was sleeping.

BANI:
What's that noise?
PIA:
Can't you guess? Someone's asleep and is snoring!
BANI:
Now we have something over her.
PIA:
Yeah. Hang on.

Pia got out her phone and recorded Roshni snoring.

ROSHNI:
I love you mummy. I miss you.
BANI:
Oh my God.
PIA:
Well its recorded. Anyway lets do what we came here for.

Bani and Pia did what they had to do and left the room. They got back in their room and started to talk.

PIA:
I cant wait to see the expression on her face!
BANI:
Neither can I. Poor girl she won't know what hit her.
PIA:
Poor girl? Di, its poor witch.
BANI:
That doesn't make a difference.
PIA:
Yeah, well I cant wait to hear her scream. Everything I have planned tonight has always ended up in her screaming.
BANI:
This time won't be any different.
PIA:
Exactly di.
BANI:
Lets go to sleep so it can be morning quickly.
PIA:
The first thing we'll here will be a loud scream.
BANI:
Can't wait.

Bani and Pia went to sleep happy with the way they executed their plan. All they needed to wait for was the next morning. The sun rised in the morning and with that was Roshni's scream.

ROSHNI:
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!

Everyone woke up and rushed to the guest room with Bani and Pia eagerly running there and giggling on the way. Anita opened the door and everyone looked at Roshni with shocked expression. Except for Bani and Pia who were grinning.

PUSHKAR:
Oh my God!
PIA:
Shocking isn't it (?)
PUSHKAR:
Obviously.
ROSHNI:
I can't believe this!

Said Roshni really angrily.

Chapter 15

Roshni looked at her hair, which had been cut short. Who cut it and why only Pia and Bani knew but they weren't going to let anyone know.

ROSHNI:
My hair, my beautiful hair!

Roshni mourned over her hair while Bani and Pia talked to each other.

PIA:
Di, how can a witch have beautiful hair?
BANI:
Don't ask me. I don't know.
PIA:
You're older and smart.
PUSHKAR:
Roshni, how did this happen?
ROSHNI:
How would I know? I was asleep. My hair!
JAI:
I wonder who did this?

Said Jai as he looked towards Bani. But Bani signaled him to stay quiet.

ROSHNI:
I don't know! But have you see how short they have cut it!
SAHIL:
You didn't try to cut it in the dark did you?
ROSHNI:
No! What do you think I am? A crazy woman?
RANO:
Well you look like one right now.

Said Rano as she, Bani, Anita and Pia giggled.

JAI:
Who's up for breakfast?
PUSHKAR:
I am. I have got to get away from this constant screaming.
SAHIL:
Lets go guys.
RAJDEEP:
Bye Roshni.
ROSHNI:
Ugh!

Said Roshni as the guys left to have some breakfast.

PIA:
Lets go girls and leave scary mary alone with her hair.

The girls got out of Roshni's room and started laughing.

ANITA:
The most funniest sight I have ever seen.
RANO:
I know. But the question is, who did it?

Anita and Rano looked at Pia.

PIA:

RANO:

BANI:
I haven't! It was called revenge.
PIA:
Lets go get something to eat.
RANO:

Then lets go quickly because mum's making parathen!

Then we've got to run to the dining table.

Last one down is a rotten egg!

The girls ran to the dining table but only to find the boys pigging out on everything.

ANITA:
Mum! Are you making some more? Because my brother and his friends have eaten every single thing. They're so greedy.
MRS SHUKLA:
Don't worry beta! I'm making some more for you girls.
BANI:
Come on Pia. Lets go help her.
PIA:
Yeah. By the looks of it we're going to need to eat in the kitchen. These boys are still hungry.

Anita sat down. Sahil signaled Rano to come sit next to him.

ANITA:
Go on Rano. You might not get another chance.

Shyly Rano went and sat next to Sahil as he offered to share the food on his plate with her.

ANITA:
So cute!
PUSHKAR:
Sahil you shouldn't go after the girl. She should run after you.
PIA:
Absolutely not!

Said Pia as she entered with a tray of more food.

PIA:
Don't listen to that idiot. You're the only nice guy here. Don't turn into one of them or you'll get girlfriends like chapargangu!
ANITA:
Pia's right. Speaking of the witch.

Roshni came down the stairs and sat down on the dining table.

BANI:
Hi Roshni. Feeling better?

Said Bani as she and Pia sat down to eat.

ROSHNI:

Roshni looked at everyone sitting and eating.

ROSHNI:
Guys make some room. There's nowhere to sit and eat.
PIA:
Why don't you eat on the floor?
ROSHNI:
Because thanks to some people my back is killing me and I need to sit on a chair.
RAJDEEP:
There's no room, but you can share my seat with me.
ROSHNI:
In your dreams.
PIA:
Roshni, unless you want to sit on the floor, I suggest you sit with him.

Fearing of that thought Roshni went and shared her seat with Rajdeep. Although anyone could tell she was really uncomfortable.

Pia kept on giggling with the other girls every time they looked at Roshni.

PUSHKAR:
Roshni why don't you come and sit in my lap?

I'll go get some fruits.

Said Pia as she left to go to the kitchen with Anita following her.

PIA:
God, I hate her.
ANITA:

PIA:

ANITA:

ANITA:
I know. But I can tell he likes you, he just wants to get at you.
PIA:

Anita and Pia hugged then went back to the dining table where everyone ate. Bani's phone started to ring and she went away to answer it. She returned and told everyone the problem.

BANI:
Anita is it okay if we stay at your house for the rest of the weekend.
ANITA:
Sure Bani, but why?
BANI:
A really far relative has passed away and mum and dad are leaving to go for the funeral. Mum doesn't want to leave us alone and wants us to stay here. Is that okay?
ANITA:
Yeah, I'll just go tell mum.

Anita went to tell her mum. When she came back Anita's mum wanted to talk to Bani's mum on the phone.

ANITA:
Don't know what's wrong with mum.
BANI:
Maybe she's just worried.

Anita's mum came and told everyone the bad news.

MRS SHUKLA:
What I was afraid of has happened.
ANITA:
What do you mean?
MRS SHUKLA:
Well you know our relatives in Mumbai''.?
ANITA:
What about them?
MRS SHUKLA:
The eldest in the family has passed away.
ANITA:
Then how come we weren't informed?
MRS SHUKLA:
I don't know but I will find out once I get there.
ANITA:

MRS SHUKLA:

ANITA:
What about me, Pushkar, Bani, Pia and Rano.

You can look after yourselves. Also if you want more people then you can continue your sleepover for the weekend.

Mrs Shukla, Anita and Pia left leaving everyone else.

PUSHKAR:
Right guys, what shall we do since we have the house to ourselves?
ROSHNI:
I say me and you should spend some alone time.
PUSHKAR:
What's the point? Might as well spend the weekend with the guys because we haven't gone out in a while. Now get off me because my legs are going to sleep.

Roshni got out of Pushkar's lap with an embarrassed face.

JAI:
I say we stay home tonight and go to the movies tomorrow.
BANI:
What will we do at home?
JAI:
Sit in one room and tell each other spooky stories.
PUSHKAR:
Yeah.
RANO:
No! That would be boring.
BANI:
I think Rano's right.
SAHIL:
I disagree with you both. I like Jai's idea.

Rano looked at Sahil who was sitting next to her.

SAHIL(WHISPERS):
This will be a great way to get you scared so you come right into my arms.
RANO:
Shut up!
ROSHNI:
I think we should play truth or dare.
RANO:
I don't think that would be a good idea. If we do play it then I'll be forced to open my mouth and tell you how I really feel.
SAHIL:
Forget that! What are we going to eat?
JAI:
Junk food!
PUSHKAR:
Yeah!
RANO:
Who's going to order it? Your dad?
ROSHNI:
A new restaurant opened up. Do you want to order food from there? It's amazing.
BANI:
We'll have home cooked food.
SAHIL:
Ok.
BANI:
Listen to the twist. It will be made by you!
JAI:
No way!
RANO:
We'll take that as you admitting girls are better.
PUSHKAR:
No. You aren't.
BANI:
We are!
JAI:
No, I don't think so!
BANI:
Fine. Lets set up a challenge.
PUSHKAR:
We'll do any challenge and beat you.
BANI:
Listen first. We'll have a cooking contest. Boys vs. girls. Whoever makes great tasting food the fastest they will win. If the girls win the boys will have to get on their knees and say "girls are the best" and also as a punishment will have to wash the dishes. But if anyone in each group cheats the whole group gets an extra punishment.
RAJDEEP:
Whatever. We boys will win.
PUSHKAR:
And we'll show you who's boss.
RANO:
Not if we show you girl power.
SAHIL:
You're on!
RANO:
Right. It's set then. We girls are going to go upstairs. We'll be down for the challenge.
RAJDEEP:
Yeah, you can prepare to lose.
RANO:
Whatever.
ROSHNI:
I'll come later. First I need to sort out my hair.
RANO:
Oh did you want to come upstairs as well?
BANI:
Come if you want. We don't really care.

Chapter 16

Mr and Mrs Shukla just left while everyone was outside waving goodbye. Everyone went inside as the girls went upstairs Roshni stayed downstairs with the guys.

The girls went to the terrace.

PIA:
Thank God Roshni stayed downstairs. I would have pushed her off the roof if she was here.
RANO:
Not if I did it first.
ANITA:
It was stupid of them to accept this challenge. They know they're going to lose. We'll use the near the dining table they can use the other one near the sitting room.
PIA:
I wonder how they will cook.
ANITA:
They're boys. How do you think they will cook?
BANI:
Really bad.

The girls continued talking for a long while.

PIA:
Guys, it's 7 o'clock. Time to go and show those boys what we're made of.
ALL:
Lets do it!

They came downstairs where they found the boys waiting for them.

PIA:
Where's Roshni?
PUSHKAR:
She's sleeping. So it looks like you got one player less.
PIA:
We don't need her.
ANITA:
She would probably hold us back anyway. You guys can go and use kitchen number 2.
JAI:
It doesn't matter which kitchen we use because we're going to win.
BANI:
In your dreams. Anyway today's menu is Biryani, Samosas, Tandoori Chicken and kheer. Everything you need is in the kitchen.
RAJDEEP:
No matter, what is the menu we will WIN!
ANITA:
We'll see. Come on girls. Lets go to our battle stations.

The girls went to their kitchen and the guys went to theirs.

Right. First we need to decide who makes what.
ANITA:
We all can make any of them but who makes what best.
BANI:
Easy. Pia makes Kheer the best.

Di always makes great Biryani. Sometimes better than mum's. Don't tell her I said that.

Rano makes great Samosas. Remember when came to your house for Diwali. I couldn't stop praising Rano.
RANO:
I guess you're stuck with the Tandoori Chicken.
ANITA:
No problem. It's my favorite.
PIA:
Lets get working girls!
ANITA:
Alright!

The girls got everything they needed in front of them and got working fast.

The boys on the other hand weren't doing so well.

RAJDEEP:
How do we give the chicken all the flavors it needs?
SAHIL:
How do I know? I haven't made it before.
PUSHKAR:
More. More. More.
JAI:
How much more rice shall I put in (?) We won't be able to mix it in the pan.
PUSHKAR:
All I know is we're not going to win if we don't make enough!
JAI:
Lets just do the Samosas.

The boys started to make Samosas.

SAHIL:
That's not a triangle Rajdeep!
RAJDEEP:

SAHIL:
That is a square.
RAJDEEP:
Well I'll cut it to make two triangles.
SAHIL:
Someone put some sense into this idiot.
PUSHKAR:
Oh, forget him. How's the kheer?
SAHIL:
I've put it on the cooker.
PUSHKAR:
Finally we're getting somewhere.
RAJDEEP:
I've put the chicken in the oven.
PUSHKAR:
These Samosas are done! Lets put them in the oil.

Jai put the cooker on full and oil was going everywhere.

RAJDEEP:
Ow! My face! That hurt.
JAI:
Everyone back away.
SAHIL:
Which idiot put the gas on high.

The boys sat down on the floor for a while as everything was cooking.

PUSHKAR:
Done!
JAI:
Finally.
SAHIL:
Forget that. Have you seen yourself? You got flour all over you.
RAJDEEP:
That doesn't matter! We're going to win.
PUSHKAR:
What's that smell?
JAI:
Smoke is coming from the oven.

Jai opened the door and took out what as in there.

RAJDEEP:
The chicken.
SAHIL:
Oh God! That's fully burnt!
PUSHKAR:
It doesn't matter. We have the kheer, the Samosas and Biryani.
SAHIL:
Not anymore.

Sahil pointed to the cooker.

SAHIL:
The Samosas are burnt. Crispy black.

The boys were about to take off the cooker when the milk in the Kheer over boiled and ran down the side of the big pot.

RAJDEEP:
Oh God.
JAI:
There's 10 minutes left.
PUSHKAR:
What about the Biryani?
SAHIL:
I'll look. Who forgot to put on the cooker. The Biryani hasn't even cooked.
RAJDEEP:
My bad.
SAHIL:
This idiot ruins everything!
JAI:
What will we do now?
PUSHKAR:
Cook everything again.
JAI:
We have 10 minutes.
PUSHKAR:
I know. Lets get to work.
JAI:

SAHIL:
Oh crap!

Presentation is important. Besides how will those duffers cook these great delicacies.

The girls took their dishes and went to the dining room where the boys were already standing there with everything they made on the table.

: That doesn't matter the food has got to taste great. It matters if you were quick and made great food. Which I doubt.

The girls put their food on the table. The boys opened the lids to theirs as did the girls.

PUSHKAR:
You were saying?
ANITA(WHISPERS):
Why does their food look great?
PIA(WHISPERS):

They all looked at Rano then back again at the food.

JAI:
Don't just stand there! Taste it and tell us we have done great.

The girls put a little bit of everything into one plate and were about to eat it when suddenly Roshni came, sat down and started to eat the food.

ROSHNI:
Oh, this is great!
PUSHKAR:
Speechless are you?
ROSHNI:
Wow. Fantastic. Amazing. Mind-blowing.

The girls looked on and weren't pleased.

BANI(WHISPERS):
Maybe we were wrong in judging them.

Anita, Pia and Rano looked at Bani in anger.

PIA(WHISPERS):
There's something fishy. Jai's never been able to cook. He's never been able to boil water let alone cook food.
ANITA(WHISPERS):
Yeah. Pushkar's never been able to cook. Well he can't because whenever he comes back from college it's Mum make this, Mum make that.
BANI(WHISPERS):
Ok. So Jai can't cook for definite and neither can Pushkar. Sahil can't probably cook because he's Jai's younger brother and has probably been pampered. What about Rajdeep?
RANO(WHISPERS):
Don't get me started on that idiot! He'd probably burn the whole kitchen. That other time he couldn't even handle a bottle of drink and spilled it all over my brand new white shirt.
PIA(WHISPERS):
Then how did they make this food?
ROSHNI:
Oh my God! It was great food. By the way Thank You for listening to what I told everyone earlier to order outside food from that new restaurant. I told you their food is amazing.
PIA:
When did you grow you hair?
ROSHNI:
I didn't. This is a wig. Now if you excuse me I've got to answer this.
PIA:

PUSHKAR:

JAI:
I told you not to do that. You didn't listen to me.
RAJDEEP:
Why don't we talk it over dinner.
ANITA:
We'd be glad to.
BANI:
One tiny little detail. You don't get any food!
SAHIL:

Sahil, you cheated! So that's an extra punishment.
RAJDEEP:

PUSHKAR:
Stop being so dramatic dude.
JAI:
Yeah we can just eat the food we ordered.

Bani, Anita, Pia and Rano all picked up a bowl and through the food onto the floor.

JAI:
What did you do that for?
PIA:
To show you a lesson.
PUSHKAR:
For what?
RANO:
Now I always say "Don't do the crime, if you can't do the time".
SAHIL:
Rubbish!
BANI:
It might seem like rubbish but it's true.
ANITA:
Next time think twice about what you do.
JAI:
It doesn't matter. We'll eat from your bowls.
BANI:
I don't think so!

The girls picked up their bowls of food and stood there determined to not let the boys eat.

PIA:
Clean up this mess!
PUSHKAR:
We're not your servants!
PIA:
Yes you are! You'll be washing up as a punishment and also won't get to eat.
RAJDEEP:
Take anything, my manhood, my dignity, my respect and my virginity. But you can't take my food!
RANO:
Well we were going to give you some to eat but you can forget it now.
SAHIL:
You idiot! What have you done?
RAJDEEP:
Made the world a better place?
SAHIL:
Pushkar why did you invite this idiot!
RAJDEEP:
My name is Rajdeep not idiot.
SAHIL:
Arre yaar!
RAJDEEP:

ANITA:
Right guys, get cleaning.

The boys picked up the food and then threw it into the bin as the girls sat down on the dining table and ate. The guys came to tell the girls they finished everything but the girls were too busy eating.

SAHIL:
We've finished cleaning.
PIA:
Rano this food is too good na?
RANO:
Good? It's great. If I do say so myself.
BANI:
I could eat this kind of food everyday.
ANITA:
Every hour on the hour.

The boys stood there looking at the girls eating. Rajdeep started to lick his lips as he looked at the Tandoori chicken that was on the girl's plates. The girls finished those and started to gossip.

RAJDEEP:
Girls.
ALL GIRLS:
Yes?
RAJDEEP:
Since you're finished eating, can we eat anything that's left?
PIA:
Sure. We made this food for 8 people and we're only 4.

Anita opened the lids to the bowls but all of them were empty.

ANITA:
Looks like we ate it all.
BANI:
So sorry.
RANO:
I guess you've learned now that you guys shouldn't mess with us girls.
BANI:
Lets go to Anita's room. We can go on the computer and look at those dresses we talked about.
