First and foremost let me thank everyone for their wonderful comments.

And the two segments that I had done in the beginning was just a preview what is to happen later in the story. (Especially for swatinarang as she responded asking what the reaction of the kids would be).

And as for Bani's kids supporting the family the daughter in an artist who performs in shows.

I hope I have clarified everyone's queries now.

And as for the flash back I think it will be in that phase for a while.

So here is the next chapter.

Chapter 18

Bani and Jai were back in Bombay. She had come to give her exams but Jai couldn't be there for the next three weeks as he had to fly out on some urgent business matters to Dubai and London.

Bani was upset on hearing it. They had arrived very late in Bombay and Jai's flight was in the morning to Dubai. But still he wanted to see his wife settled comfortably before going. And may be with Massi and the children she wouldn't feel so lonely hence he had asked her to stay there.

He still cannot forget the conversation they had or rather exchange of words they had late in the evening the day before leaving.

Bani: Just Like I said now you drop me off at Massi's house and go for your tours. She was sting by the side of the bed with a pouting face and she was on the verge of crying.

Jai: Angel you have your exams.

Bani: That finishes off in one weeks time. What about the two weeks.

Jai: Why don't you look at it this way a break from your monster husband? He was trying to humor her but she was angry hurt what it was Jai couldn't figure out.

Bani: I never said I wanted to get rid off you. Its you who always want to run now you got a good excuse also for it. Problem in the foreign offices. And what happened to all those people sitting and working on the project. Are they all so dumb that you have to go and guide them there?

Jai was now really at the limit of his patience he just barked out. There's no point arguing now. And you should get used to this life style 24'7 I cannot be there I run an business empire which has branches in other part of the world. And it's not something new.

Bani: By then her tears had started to flow. You don't have to shout. I was just upset that you would go away for so long. You never said when we were getting married.

Jai: Gosh Bani it came up all of a sudden. And I'm not going for ever.

Bani: Ya I know but you didn't even ask if I would want to come.

Jai: Bani you have your exams or have you forgotten that. I want a well educated wife and what about your dreams of doing fine arts in college. So be a good girl and give your exams and may be this is the last time you can freak out in your husbands absence.

Bani: I don't want to freak out.

Jai feeling that the conversation is just going in circles Went close to her and pulled her onto his lap and had his arms around her.

Bani: No molly cuddling is going to work I'm upset.

Jai: I know that baby and it's the first time someone is fretting over me going on a business trip. Now listen to me carefully after your exams are over meet up with your friends and do things you would normally do and spend some time with Massi. I think she is really missing you…

Bani: Oh so Massi is now the most important person.

Jai: Stop interrupting me while I'm talking you know I don't like it.

Bani: Yes your highness.

Jai: Stop it and listen Go around and may be doing some shopping. Visit all your friends because its going to be awhile before you can meet them again.

Bani: Why is it going to be the end of the world or what?

Jai: No angel once I am back we are coming back here for the next six months till we have the formal wedding and the reception. So these two weeks after exams are just a break before you are going to have me all the time hovering you.

Bani: I don't mind you hovering.

Jai: Tell me about it. My ears have become deaf listening to all the colorful names you call me.

Bani just smiles and turns to give him a tight hug in the process knocks him on to the bed and now she is lying on top of him.

Bani: But you don't mind them in fact you thrive on them. And now since I have got permission from you to freak out I guess that's what I would do. And I hope in Bombay you will not make me wear this stupid nine yard thing.

Jai: are we always back to that.

Bani; Try yourself wearing one then you will know.

Jai: Most woman in India wear it in their day to day life and have no problem. But my wife loves to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

Bani: Ya I am the one with imperfections…

Jai was not liking the way the conversation was going so he interrupted

Jai: No one is perfect Bani and I want to see the same way you are always. I don't like changes. So now tell me what all you plan to do in my absence.

Bani: Why? So that now itself you can lecture me and give me a set of do's and don't dos. You come back and then I will give you a detailed account.

Jai: Just don't forget one thing that you are Mrs. Bani Jai Pratap Walia.

That made Bani mad why does he have to always stake his claim on her. She just took the pillow by the side and hit him on his head and was to run off when Jai just pulled her back on to the bed and now he was on top of her.

Jai: Why did you do that angel?

Bani: Because my husband was getting doctorial.

Jai: I have got every right to be and his lips came down on hers in a kiss that was to show he had claimed her in every way and there was no escape. It was a while before Bani could free herself from her husband.

The morning its quite early and Jai is moving around quietly not to wake up Bani as he knew if she woke up he would be delayed as she would start crying and then he would have to pacify her. Last night they had come in late so now she was fast asleep. He left a note for her next to the pillow and slipped out of the room with his bag. Tony was waiting with his breakfast and he better have it or else his wife would chew his head for leaving the house empty stomach. Just then he sees Massi coming out of the

Pooja room.

Jai: Good morning Massi and takes her blessing.

Massi had gone to bed by the time Jai and Bani had come last night.

Massi: What happened you all were so late?

Jai: Jai just got stuck up with work then we took a late flight. Bani is still sleeping Just tell her I will be a little late to call her in the evening as I have a set of meetings lined up but I will message as soon as I reach. He didn't want her panicking

Massi: Fine so she will be here for the three weeks.

Jai: She was missing you all there and I thought why not she spend her time with you all. She would enjoy it.

Massi kept staring at Jai was this her Munna talking. He was actually showing concern for others. Massi was still in a daze when Jai said by and left.

She had called up Adi to tell about it. To which he commented well at least at home has mellowed down. But at work he is still a terror. He has gone to both places to put everyone into their place. After three weeks he is in Bombay and from Tarun I heard he is busy putting things into place and he doesn't have time to breathe. So you Munna hasn't changed all that much.

Massi wanted to ask Bani how was their relationship. Does he take good care of her? But she could never get her alone. The kids clamored over her. The exams were on. Then Nattu and Pushkar were a permanent fixture in the house. After the exam Bani would be at the club with friends, her dance school. She had to do some shopping. On the whole Bani saw very less of her. And when ever she was there was always a jing bang and she kept on and on about Massi health checkup and medicines so they never got to talk. Massi did see that Jai called her every night before going to bed and for all the exams he called her and wished her best of luck. She was happy and smiled all the while talking to him sometimes she got mad too. But that was the way she was with everyone. What troubled Massi was where was this relationship progressing with her Munna. But on the last evening she decided to talk to Bani. Jai was scheduled to come that night

Massi loved to massage Bani's long hair Bani too was enjoying it. Massi just started asking her about random things. Bani told her the experience of going around the farm. She had got back to horse riding and she liked all that. But after a while Massi felt she was answering only in monosyllables and she had dozed off lightly.

Massi just sighed so much for asking. But then as Massi was trying to get up. That woke her up

Bani: Why do you worry so much Massi?

Massi: Because you are my daughter.

Bani: Ya just then she looks at the clock and notices the time. Oh my God he will be here. Let me go take a shower I'm all sweaty after the tennis match. She just runs off giving no opportunity for Massi to ask. As she was in the shower. The whole jing bang was there along with Adi and Tarun they both were at the bar. Suddenly they see Bani running down the stairs she had seen from the window the car approaching. So she just stepped out. The moment Jai stepped out of the car she flung herself at him.

Which made him loose the balance. But he held on to her supporting himself on the car and kissed her fore head. She gave him a sweet smile and whispered

Bani: It's nice to have you back. All are waiting.

Jai: Well if I bound to get such a welcome every time I think I should make a trip once in awhile.

Bani: Not landed before that want to get away from me.

Jai: No ways. But on seeing the whole family there sitting and watching them Jai said. They were walking slowly and Jai had his hand around her shoulder

Jai: Is there a way we can get away to night.

Bani: For what. We are going tomorrow morning isn't it?

Jai: Understand wifey three weeks away from you and the first night I have to spend my time in a crowd.

Bani: They are all family and where is a crowd and both of us do what.

Jai: Well I would have like to show you here. But then you will never hear the end of it from Pushkar and Nattu.

It then dawned to Bani what he was referring too.

Bani: Oh please be it a boring business tycoon I should have known they all have a one track mind.

Jai: Hey who's the boring one?

Bani: no my charming husband move along fast then freshen up and have dinner I have got lot of things to tell you.

Jai: Why do I not like the sound of it?

Bani: Don't worry I haven't sullied your reputation and now don't spoil your image too. Everyone is string at you like they are seeing you for the first time.

To say that they were all surprised to see Jai smiling for change wasn't done. He infact questioned Tarun and Adi about the business and the progress. Too which they were zapped but still they gave some answers. When Massi admonished them saying don't you have to talk other things to which Jai replied like what the latest woman in their lives.

To which Tarun chocked over the drink Nattu and Pushy just kept looking at one another.

They retired quite late that night.

When Bani joined him in bed he just pulled her close to him and gave her a deep kiss showing how much he missed her. But what he said next had her shocked

Jai: Lets sleep to night I'm dead tired and moreover you get all the rest you need to night because the following nights I'm not going to leave you alone.

Bani just kept looking at him. Jai said what and Bani giggled but then she hugged Jai I missed you.

Jai: I missed you too baby

If last night was a shock for them because of Jai's behavior. Today Bani gave them the shock. The girl who was always dressed in Jeans and top or a miniskirt and dresses. Today was holding on to Jai's hand and was coming down in a Sari with matching bangles mangalsutra and a thin diamond necklace matching to her Sari. She had the gajra on her hair too. She looked like the typical Indian wife. When all kept looking at her she felt too conscious Jai just sat down

Bani: What Happened Massi haven't I worn the Sari properly. Mr. Walia said it was done perfectly.

Massi: Eh when did you start wearing Sari?

Bani: Don't ask me and gave a look to Jai.

Jai: Oh Bani please don't tell me every morning we will have to start with the same topic.

Bani: See even Massi thinks I look stupid in this.

Jai: I didn't hear her say that.

Bani: You saw the look she couldn't recognize me only.

Jai: They will get used to it

Massi: You wear Sari everyday.

Bani: Yes because that is how Mr. Walia's wife should look according to some people.

Jai: Bani

Bani: I know no discussion we are getting late. Only for Massi to hear. Massi your Munna is an orthodox to the core you should have warned me about that. Along with his dictatorship. I would have been prepared.

Massi: if you don't like it you should have told him

Bani: You think so I didn't try.

Massi: But then I never see you give in so easily why this time eh Bani

Bani couldn't answer that question as Jai told her to be quick and that she had three weeks to talk to Massi and still she hasn't finished.

Massi felt her Munna still had reservations in mixing up but at least now he considers that there are other people around him.

Massi replied for that she was never at home when will she talk to me.

Jai: Looks like my wife had a good time while I was slogging.

Bani: You asked to freak out and I always obey you.

Jai: YA

Massi didn't have to ask any further questions the way they both interacted and when ever Jai looked up to her face in brought a glow on her Bani's face that was enough to say they were happy with one another.

But Bani left home with the thought on why she couldn't say no to her husband. And Jai could sense something was bothering her. He never knew he could sense a person's mood so clearly.

I think everyone is in a rush to know why their so called happy married life turned sour that Bani choose to run away. Well it is slow process and it begins with this part hope you all enjoy reading it.

Also to all my readers Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New year. I will be busy for the next few days hence the next update will only happen in the New Year. I have got relatives coming down for ten days visit and I will be busy with them. So I am going to take a good break with some adventure. Hope the weather to co operates.

Chapter 19 A

Once they were back from Bombay. It was a daily routine for them Jai was busy with the expansion of Dixit industries. Bani loved the quite life. With Jai were she got to get involved with the common people as she visited the cooperative csociety to which their farm products were sold. Then she got to pursue her dancing with the tribal music and dance forms. Their weekend outings exploring the old fortresses and caves and things like that were interesting. It helped them to bond better. And once when her results were out. Jai got her enrolled into the college too from there. He said when they move back to Bombay she could join the next semester asking for a transfer. (I don't know if they allow all that in India so just take it as my imagination). Though it was along ride to the city she enjoyed it because half the way through Jai would be there as the industry was on the way. While coming back she got to se Jai working in office while she did some studies there sitting in his cabin. She was permanent fixture there but she never got involved with the staff or decision makings. She acknowledged the presence of everyone and did chat with them. She was good with people. At first they were skeptical as she was the Boss's wife or would be wife they weren't sure. But as days went by they could relate to her better. Jai often found it annoying that people seemed so interested in his wife.

Bani teased him saying that you are jealous. Too which Jai had replied I have every right to be you are my wife? Often led to them having silly fights like jus the other day Jai was upset over the fact that Ban didn't mention she would be late from college.

Jai: Why you only informed the driver about it. Don't you think it's necessary for me to know about your were abouts.

Bani: Are we back to that now. You being my husband

Jai: Why you don't like being addressed as Mrs. Jai Walia.

Bani: I have no problem and I love being your wife and am thankful to God for sending someone like you for me. But you know at times you are really over bearing or to say that you stretch to the limit,

Jai: Me stretching to the limit. Who throws temper tantrums every other day and becomes late to college.

Bani: That happened only once. Because you didn't allow me to wear jeans to college. We all had planned to wear it

Jai: This is not a city like Bombay were you can breeze in with a boat neck top and jeans please. And from Sari I have compromised to Sal war suits and things like that now don't tell me you want to go to college in a miniskirt and halter neck tops. And stop changing the topic.

Bani: Sorry and she came and hugged him now leaning on him fully that he has to support her Jai just kept looking into those eyes. He knew what she was up to. Always showing him the puppy face and cute smile so that he calms down. And sometimes she gives him a peck.

Jai: Stop giving me the look. Here I am waiting for madam then the driver tells me that you had instructed him to come two hours late as there is some practice session happening and why wasn't I told about all that.

Bani: How did you know about the practice I didn't tell him all that

Jai: I called dup your college to know what time exactly to send the car.

Bani: Please I am not a kid who has to be dropped and picked up and not only that you called up the dean about all this. I will not hear the end of it tomorrow in class now. Because of you as it is all of them tease me.

Jai: Oh so now madam doesn't like me interfering. Then start being responsible

Bani:Responsibility it's more like controlling to me. You are just like one of those over bearing parents. And let me get this straight I am your wife not kid.

Jai: Thank god for small mercies if I had a Kid like you there would be time only to spank her. And now my wife has some explaining to do on these practice sessions.

Bani: You spoil all the surprise and I am not going to tell you anything you think of me only as a kid. So go ask the dean.

Now he knew she wasn't going to give in how much ever he coaxed her. She never like being refereed to as a kid. She wanted to be treated like a woman. But Jai somehow enjoyed seeing the chillness in her and often instigated her to get mad. Just to see that playfulness in her.

Jai: Fine you wanted to surprise me. But next time I like to be told if you are late as a husband I am entitled to it are we clear on that.

Bani: Ya

Jai: And now stop being grumpy like a kid not that I mind because it has its advantages. Bani looked at him with anger and confusion.

Jai: Because my wife takes a long time to be pleased and I enjoy every moment of it.

Now a days Bani knew what he meant by everything he said mostly and she knew yes he might be great business tycoon and a master brain in plotting business strategies but there was a passionate and fun side to him too which he shared only with her. And Bani loved being the girl or woman he wanted to be.

Bani: I was a little late in catching up but now I have concluded all men have one track mind when it comes to their woman.

Jai: I have never seen you complain about that.

Bani: I wasn't its an observation.

Jai: Nice so my darling is a good learner

Bani: Cannot complain when I have a good master.

Jai: So shall we try how good I am

Bani: Here in the office. No ways.

Jai: Be a sport and give me a kiss.

Bani: No

But then Jai had his way he got his Kiss before leaving office and promised her tonight she is going to pay for being the tease. And he will pry out of her what the big surprise was also

Too which Bani just winked and walked into the pantry saying you know I too can be tight lipped about things. After all I get to learn from the master. Jai would have gone after her but he was buzzed to join a telephonic conference.

But then Jai let it rest when he saw the enthusiasm in her eyes over giving him a surprise he didn't want to spoil the fun for her. But finally in the end he did that itself.

Now come to think of it. Jai felt that was one side of his personality he wasn't proud of. And it was always Bani who got to see that. The other side to him was Jai being the damn possessive of her and Bani got a first hand experience of it through the surprise she had planned out for him.

For the College Utsav Bani had choreographed and danced on a Rajasthan folklore music. It was a part of a love ballad. It had the audience enthralled. It was a normal college show. Were you could hear comments form the boys even while all their parents and invited guests were watching the show.

Jai couldn't tolerate such a scene. His wife was on stage and her sensual moments made the crowds clap and dance that was beyond Jai. He just sat though the entire show with s stony face. And he didn't register anything what the dean had said about Bani appreciating the work she had put it n to make the program success. The art teacher was full of praises saying that his wife had an inborn talent. It was great of him to allow her to pursue her interest. All this while Jai was seething with anger and Bani sensed Jai indifference for the time he was watching the show. She kept wondering didn't her like her surprise. Bani thought to wait till they reached home but still Jai was tight lipped….

As they reached home Jai went up and changed to his night wear and stepped into the study. Bani waited for him to join her. When she saw no sight of him she stepped into the study to see Jai had a glass of drink in his hand.

Bani didn't like him drinking or smoking yes once in a while during his socializing she didn't mind but his night cap he hardly had them.

Bani: Aren't you coming to sleep. I want to go to bed.

Jai: Ya so go I will join you later.

Bani: you know I don't like to sleep alone.

Jai: Bani you aren't a kid anymore and you have to out grow your fear of the dark.

Bani: Why should I?

Jai: Stop being stubborn Bani and go to bed.

Bani: I am not going anywhere till you tell me why you are drinking and I like to see the face of the person I speak to.

Jai: Stop being childish Bani and get some sleep.

Sensing that Jai was angry about something she just And she comes close to him but notices that jai hasn't made any effort t to hold on to her or bring her closer. So she just hugs from behind. At that moment Jai just gulps down the drink in his hand.

Bani: what did I do wrong now that you are angry.

Jai: Who said I am angry.

Bani: You don't have to say I know the look.

That's when it struck Jai Bani always looked for his approval in anything she did. It mattered to her the most what he felt and she always wanted an input from him Today he hasn't said one word about her dancing and she will want to know why.

Yes his wife was like a grown up child who looked up to him she always did thing's to please him. Jai found that at times amusing, at times it really touched him sometimes found it annoying. But what ever be it he always expressed how he felt. And Bani wanted to be seen as a woman Jai often did notice some of her vain attempts in that. She hated being treated like a child so she did things to get his approval but sometimes it turned out to be big blunders too. But Jai took everything in his stride. He would loose his cool but Bani knew her way around him. It was like she had him wrapped around her finger and she was absolutely not aware of the fact that her husband would do anything for her

Bani: Say something you didn't like my dance. Everyone enjoyed it and appreciated it too.

That brought him out of the revive.

Jai: My wife is not for someone else's enjoyment.

Bani was taken aback by that comment. She literally had tears in her eyes

Jai: Now just don't start crying. It was more of a shock rather than surprise you had planned for me. Let me know if you have anymore of this kind of surprises so that I can prepare myself.

Bani was now literally sobbing. Normally jai on seeing tears would immediately become soft but today he was seething with rage. And it looked like he was ready to kill someone.

Bani: I am sorry if I have upset you.

Jai: Upset. It doesn't even come close to what I felt. Understand one thing Bani you are Bani Jai Pratap Walia now what you did before doesn't matter to me. But now on you will not be performing in public for a crowd. I hope Iam clear on that.

Bani could only nod. She just couldn't understand the fact what angered her husband so much.

Jai just left the study in storm Leaving Bani in tears. Or else he might do something which he will regret later. And she just slumped down onto the plush carpet. She didn't know for how long she cried slowly sleep over took her and she was lying with her head on the sofa. When Jai entered late into the night into his study not seeing Bani in the room. Seeing her that way Jai really felt like kicking himself for being too harsh on her. But then sometimes he didn't have control over his temper.

The next morning when Bani woke up she way sin bed with a throbbing head ache. So her husband did come last night to her and he got her to sleep here so where was he in the morning . She didn't have to wait for too long as he walked in with a steaming cup of coffee and said

Jai: Drink this up and you will feel better. I have kept the bath ready. Freshen up and then if you are interested may be we could go for riding together.

Bani just looked at him dazed was this the same man who was angry with her. She couldn't forget the look he gave her.

Jai felt like kicking himself by seeing the lost look on Bani's face. It was as though she feared him and she had every right to be. After all last night he was a jack ass. But then he wasn't very patient man in explaining things to others. But today he was going to make it up to his wife.

And true to his word that's what he just did. Bani was surprised to see a total different Jai. He got her breakfast tray up made sure she ate properly. He asked her if she still wanted to go riding to which she only nodded her head. He took her around the farm. They got down in a shaded area next to the pond he had got a picnic mat and basket layed out.

Jai: Say what we shall have light lunch form here. I have got some things which you like.

Bani just kept looking at him. Jai just couldn't take her aloofness anymore so he just pulled her him and was holding her tightly you call it my madness chauvinism what ever but yes my wife only belongs to me.

I couldn't take in when a room full of people were cheering you and commenting on you. May be you are used to that kind of response but it was quite a shock to me and sorry for last night I didn't want to scare you off.

She could feel Jai combing in through her hair with his finger slowly she raised her eyes to see if there was anger still in those eyes but today he had a sad look. She knew he was often quite possessive of her and she loved to be his darling but last night she saw anger in those eyes which scared her.

Bani very softly: If you don't like me dancing all you had to do was say. I though you enjoyed it Last time you appreciated it and I wanted to show you what I learnt these few months.

Now Jai understood her surprise it was Jai who had introduced her to the tribal folk lore people who performed she wanted to just show him what she could do with their music and art form. Now Jai truly felt like a jerk. So he smiled at her and said

Jai: No I love your dancing except you performing for a public audience. You have a wonderful grace and you are quite a charmer. And now he left his hold on her but then Bani just clung to him and with tears in her eyes

Bani: Fine then I will not perform. I always want to see you happy.

Jai was shocked but then on seeing her crying their discussion took another turn. Jai could never see her crying so he wiped her tears and said

Jai: You don't have to do it for me. It's just that it will take some time for me to get used to the idea of my wife as an artist.

Bani: Thats ok I love to choreograph and do things I need not perform always. And now I think I have got one permanent candidate to see me dancing Jai just looked her puzzled then it dawned to him that she was referring to him.

Yes that was the beginning of their turmoil. Jai was person with fixed ideas and he resisted change and valued his solitude. His wife wanted him to enjoy life and wanted him to be part of all the people he associated with. Bani felt she was being really selfish to keep her all to himself when he was such a wonderful human being when you really got to know him.
